Some people don't change and they really don't change if it makes no difference to them either way. I grew up with many peers that were toxic or exhibited problematic behavior that some carried with them into adulthood. The reason is because we let them. We accepted that that's who they are. Everytime we caught them in a lie, saying something terrible about someone whose meant to be their friend behind their back, straight up ditching people - we'd just laugh, shrug and say 'Well, that's just Ricky for ya!' and hang out with him the next day like we're old pals. Some of us come to our senses and realize that just because that's an intrinsic part of their character and we've known them for so long, doesn't mean we tolerate it. It may be been funny or part of their journey as a young teen but at 40, that shit aint cute.
This is a follow up to some toxic and problematic people from my past 20 years on. One who I thought surely would have changed and another who I realize now is just a straight up bully who not only doubled down on her calculated cruelty from her youth but is proud of it. I gave the abridged version as we'd be here for days if I gave you the play by play. What's important is that these things don't have an age limit. If there is someone in your life that isn't serving you or making you feel bad, speak your truth and peace out now. It don't matter if you're 14 or 40. We need the freedom and encouragement to change and grow, not question ourselves and feel uncomfortable.
