When I put the vinegar and water in the reservoir, I will actually hit "brew" as if making coffee. When a bit of the vinegar finally reaches my cup, I lift the lever so that it stops everything and now all the hot vinegar water is inside the internal tubing. I let it sit for 15. Then, I put the lever back down so it continues to brew and empty into my cup. Gives more time in the internal mechanisms to really remove the mineral deposits.

An important note. It's essential that you allow the vinegar and water solution to sit INSIDE the Coffee maker for a minimum of 15 minutes prior to running another cycle. That does not mean the "Water Reservoir", but rather, the inside tank of the coffee maker that heats the water up. We have extremely hard water where we live, and the vinegar/water solution must stay inside the machine, on the heating element, for a minimum of 15 minutes before flushing the rest of the solution through. Allowing it to sit enables the vinegar to break down the deposits on the element and in the lines.

Using water that has gone through a reverse osmosis filter system takes out much of the minerals that cause the scale buildup. Most groceries stores sell this water in bulk. We have found that there is no scale buildup on the Keurig as that is the only water we use. We do have to clean the parts of the machine where the coffee get processed and exits the machine. I use a kitchen scrub buddy foam sponge with a handle (The one with the round head) to get the gunk out of the area under the cup you popped out at 3:51. That area gets filthy too. Small pipe cleaners or those tiny straw cleaning pipettes work in lieu of a paperclip. Also, don't forget to turn off the machine before you remove the water container from the machine. You run the risk of tripping the internal safety switch. I learned this from Keurig. Great video!

If your WalMart or neighborhood grocery store has a water jug filling station, use the filtered water from there. I only use that water in my Keurig. My grandmother gave me her old (2yrs) Keurig about 6 years ago. She said it wasn't working right and my aunts bought her a new one. I brought it home and did what Angela just did in this video and I clean it but never have mineral build up. I do run vinegar through it about every six months. It is about 8 years now. And no signs of wearing out!

The bottom of the water tank has a small valve that can get clogged. Remember to scrub it with the vinegar and press it up over the sink to see if it needs a paper clip to remove minerals. The one leading into the machine can also get dust or pet hair in it, which is why I use a pitcher to pour water into the reservoir instead of removing it to fill. There is also a bottom needle that pierces the cup which needs a paper clip cleaning

Since the tank never fully empties, you should at least dump out the water if it has been sitting there a few days. Mine smells moldy if I don't do that. I have been to houses where they never ever remove the tank, and there is brown slime growing in the tank that affects the flavor of the coffee.

Very good video and easy to understand. But you forgot a thing: You unplugged the machine by pulling the cord. The secret is using bottled (or filtered) water in your Keurig for all your coffee. If you use tap water there tend to be traces of minerals, iron, sulfur, manganese, whatever is in your water where you live and that can cause a sediment build up that the vinegar will break down.

Run it through 3 FULL tanks with the vinegar, clean the tank and the pod container and run through 2 full tanks to make sure all of the vinegar has gone through. You'll know if there's still vinegar in the machine because any dairy that you put in your coffee will curdle. Also, we use the reusable pods and buy cans of coffee. It’s kind of heavy - be careful!! Whack it hard a few times.....run your water/vinegar mixture thru it. Sometimes there’s buildup that gets stuck in the hoses. I saw a video on youtube that suggested to do that. I was desperate to try anything and low and behold, it worked!!!! I got another couple years out of it! Hope it helps!!! The area above the k-cup holder can accumulate a disgusting amount of grunge. Also you can disassemble the k-cup holder by gently prying one of the locking tabs with the tip of a small flat screwdriver. To see the true horror of this thing you should take it outside in the sunlight the first time you clean it and inspect it carefully from all angles. You definitely need some type of small brush to clean it and even then there are areas that are difficult to reach.

I pressure wash my whole unit every six months. You have to let it dry thoroughly for a couple days after. But it looks brand new inside the cup area afterwards. My machine is over four years old. So I must of done this over a half dozen times. Tim Taylor ain’t got nothing on me.

The research I have done says that Distilled water is okay to use but regular bottled water has more minerals in it than tap water... I used plain bottled water 8n my Keurig until I read that bottled water has to many minerals in it... distilled water is okay though... just from what I've read from Keurig

My cuestion is how remove the water inside the machine system to storage my k-cup machine ?? 😳
@AskAngelaBrown4 жыл бұрын
Are you storing it permanently like in a storage unit or a cabinet? If so you can drain it in a sink before storing. Most Keurig machines have a place to add water and you would reverse the process to remove the water. Check with the owners manual for instructions since each model is a little different.

You say any dish soap will do, any bowl will do, any water will do. What if you have hard water? I mean last week my pipes were frozen, and the only water we had was small ice chips from the pipes falling into a pink bowl. It didn't do such a great job.
@AskAngelaBrown3 жыл бұрын
Pipes freezing changes all the rules right? I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Can I use apple cider vinegar?
@Letsgocamping1434 жыл бұрын
Another vid said to use straight vinegar. That would seem to really disinfect but wondering if it is too hard the unit??
@AskAngelaBrown4 жыл бұрын
Straight cleaning vinegar is a pH of 2.5 so it's very acidic. Vinegar is to always be used in moderation and on a Keurig machine with plastic parts and rubber seals, a diluted version would be best.

my kurig seems to be blocked before it even gets near the end of the tubing. probably blocked at the start of the tubing as the clean water goes right back into the resevoir. how do i find the clog and clear it?
@AskAngelaBrown4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marla, this is one of those times where I would contact the manufacturer. They would be able to pull up the exact model of your machine and give you specific advice so it's still under warranty. Lots of times the blocking of the clean water comes from mineral deposits that have built up - from using tap water, which is why we recommend using filtered or distilled water in the coffee - and cleaning.

I know this is a two year old video right now, but what if there are minerals(typically for light flavor) in a bottled water? For instance, Dasani has added minerals for flavor.
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
I don't suggest cleaning your coffee maker with expensive flavor enhanced water. Regular filtered or purified water with the additives removed will do just fine.

How do you clean the bottom of the reset that you can’t reach?
@AskAngelaBrown Жыл бұрын
To clean the hard-to-reach reset button at the bottom of a Keurig coffee maker, you can use a toothbrush, a pipe cleaner, a specialized cleaning tool, or compressed air. Be gentle and take your time, and you should be able to effectively clean the button and surrounding area. Hope this helps.

So the 2 cup vinegar/ 2 cup water solution... did you just let that sit, then add more water, or run that 4 cups of liquid through the machine then add more water?
@AskAngelaBrown Жыл бұрын
Hi. I am so late to respond! Sorry! I just let the vinegar & water run through to flush out the machine, then plain water to flush out any traces of vinegar. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching!! 😊🤗

I just purchased a new Keurig pot/pod machine and the instructions say not to use distilled water. Do you know why? I thought distilled was the most pure form of water and would be better?
@AskAngelaBrown4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, not sure of the answer to that. I recommend you call Keurig to confirm the correct type of water to use. Thanks for writing in : )
@steveblaine46914 жыл бұрын
Lake Girl - They don't recommend distilled water because it won't make good tasting coffee even though it would be easier on the coffee maker. Water needs to have some mineral content to properly extract coffee. I would recommend looking at this video from James Hoffman who I think is very good at explaining how coffee works. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJeonY2cp9KfiNU

@AskAngelaBrown Жыл бұрын
If the descale button on your Keurig doesn't turn off after cleaning, try power cycling the machine and following the descale instructions accurately. You can also try running another descaling cycle. If the issue continues, contact Keurig's customer support. Remember to always exercise caution and refer to the manufacturer's instructions for safety guidelines. Hope this helps.

Last year I purchased a large Keurig coffee machine at Christmas. After 6 months the machine stopped working properly. The machine would either dispense two much water or not enough. I did use the Keurig cleaning solution and tried vinegar to clean the machine . To no avail did either of these things work. After only 6 months of use the coffee pot had to be thrown away. This yr I purchased the mini Keurig. Do you have any instructions to cleaning this machine.
