It's truly disheartening to hear about the challenges you faced with renting and maintaining the apartment. It's unfortunate that some individuals prioritize greed and materialism over facilitating others. Their actions undoubtedly tarnish their country's reputation. I am from Pakistan and I never rent outside AirBnB because of these issues being so common. It takes up much more money in lost time.
@AngelaCarson16 күн бұрын
I'm guessing you're not staying for 2 years?
@uzairasad890716 күн бұрын
@@AngelaCarson Well, it's been a little over 1 year and I think it was the best decision. I do not have to worry about any electricity bills, furniture or maintenance. I use the monthly stays section on airbnb and it is discounted compared to daily stays, and a pro tip is to further negotiate on chat if going for long term monthly stays to get further discounted rate, which almost always works.

Thanks for sharing your bad experience Angela. I'm surprised you didn't experience this kind of discrimination in islamabad or other cities of pakistan in your earlier stays. But that is the sad reality of women here,regardless of her standing in society. Educated or nor wealthy or not. Sadder is that women here are too cosy in their own worlds run by men and financed by men. They don't want to disturb their status quo. Husbands are their strength against a society which is run by men and for the men. You've experienced first hand just how tough it is to manage the smallest of things without a man's support. Funnily it is the men who resort to unsocial behaviour not women and yet women are unable to rent if they are single. However hats off to you for sticking to your stance. You are indeed quite brave to come to this country without a man. Nothing will change unless women speak up but they why would they rock their cushy financial boat. Please do share your karachi experience with us.
@AngelaCarson16 күн бұрын
I appreciate all of that and thank you for adding to the conversation. Women have DM'd me with similar thoughts on "how change will only come" and I hope one day the women do rally together and take a step forward for equality. I can bypass the system here as a foreigner but I understand the pressure women are under to not shame their families or raise eyebrows by neighbours. A lot of pressure is put on women here that cripples their own freedom and choice for how to be happy / live happily

@AngelaCarson as a person who lived in both countries and in Pakistan with privilege. America is a place where you work hard you can climb to the top, and your hard work and money is respected. Thank you for giving Pakistan a continuous try. Have you watched Charlie Wilson War? It is an interesting film about Congressman and his tour to Pakistan, featuring Tom Hanks. There are laws in PK, but not properly implemented or understood. You're luckily didn't go to court cause court here can be hectic and time-consuming. Unfortunately, to cut the deal, we sell heaven, and then after that, everything is nothing but hurdles. Lack of discpline is what is the root cause of this.

It true that the US is not perfect and it has it's own share in different issues but I think those issues aren't difficult to solve. Now as for Pakistan and you have decided to move to Pakistan I wish you best of luck for your future life here and in everything you do. I would suggest living in Clifton block-7 or Bath Island which is just 2 KM away from U.S embassy Karachi.

I've never bothered to check where a consulate was in any of the countries I've lived in (embassies are in capitals FYI, karachi would have a consulate as it's no longer the official capital).
