Never knew about using dishing soap on your brush before the masking fluid. Thank you.

Tried finding help on the Winsor & Newton website...but no. KZbin to the rescue! Thank you for the tip on the brush (2 have been destroyed) but no more now. Also didn't realize that you're suppose to mix the fluid in the bottle... Amazed you've had your fluid for 15 years as I had a bottle for 2 years that was absolutely a bottle of sludge that I had to toss.

Great information on masking. I do use it a fair bit and have ruined brushes. Learnt to buy cheap ones for that purpose only but will try the detergent next time. Still learning and I found your video very informative and direct which was nice. Many thanks Yvonne :)

Thank you! Totally ruined a brush before learning how to properly use this. Luckily I was smart and picked up a cheap one to play with! I had some problems with it balling up while I was still applying it, but I think perhaps the fluid they had at the craft store just wasn't great quality. Hopefully using a wet brush with a barrier like dish soap will help for Take 2!

Professional tips: Know your chemistry: 1. Don't use a good watercolor brush with masking fluid (EVER, even with soap which can also strip/affect your brush) 2. Keep finger tips off good watercolor brush hairs and use designated brushes only for texturing purposes. Happy painting.

Hello-- I'm using the Windsor and Newton masking fluid as well but it's taking a really long time to dry, not sure if it'll ever dry... I have it applied softly at some parts and heavily at other but none is drying up

I know this video is 3 years old, but I am having a few issues and I have a few questions. My masking fluid has become quite thick, almost like heavy cream thats been whipped a little. How can I thin it out? Also, my masking fluid has a really strong smell, is this normal? Like putting my face 2 feet away from the bottle almost burns my nose and it smells like those sticks you rub on bug bites to reduce swelling (Afterbite?). My last question is why wouldnt the soap smear through the masking fluid leaving you with holes to the paper that paint could sneak through? I just find it weird that the soap has no side effects

I need to make a super fine line, what can I use?
@katherinebennett49907 жыл бұрын
I like to use eyeliner brushes (clean obviously) because they are so small and the hairs are log and flexible. If you use something like a cocktail stick, the fluid won't go onto the paper as smoothly.
@alexandraveneziani535 Жыл бұрын
May I ask you, is there a risk that the dishing soap ends on the painting?
@angelfehr Жыл бұрын
I don't think so. I only have a small amount coating the brush and as I apply the masking fluid, the brush rarely touches the paper, when it does it is coated in masking fluid.

my masking fluid is really thick and sticky and it's brand new i tried mixing it but the suposed fluid won't budge and when i try to use it it comes out really thick i don't know what to do i can't use it cuz even with your brush trick it sticks to the brush and creates kinda of a ball shape when i try putting it on the paper like what happens with normal glue when you rub it in your fingers

Hi! I want to ask you a question, I am a newbie on watercolor and my teacher did not explained me somethings you clearly talked so I´m courious now: Usually masking fluid is used above the naked paper so at last you have a white background, but can be used over a painted (and dry of course) surface or it will remove the color? Kisses from Spain!

Once again a demo where you can't see what the artist is dipping her brush into, how much is being used, what is being tapped off, etc. It is a big problem for beginners like myself to learn the water to paint ratio but most videos don't show it. I did like the video.

the only thing that happened is i bought all this stupid special crap and it tore off the whole first layer of paper. you cannot use this on paper. If it weren't for all these people saying that you can, I might have an extra 40 bucks for food rn. but thanks for the tip that i thought would help me at leact finish the painting im working on so i can give it to my buyer. oh wait, its torn in half now. don't buy this stuff. its absolutely useless unless you have canvas, maybe, who knows if that'll get torn in half as well.
