Its like she holds her onset for 1/16th , digs out the pocket and then drops the placement, sets the diamond, and still hits the offset just in time. And itll be just one of half a dozen choices in a phrase. She sculpts each note to emphasize the earnest truth of every lyric thus building the feel and effect of the story. Absolutely one of the most engaging singers ever. We likened her to classic Pink Floyd where we hear something new each time. Ive watched newbies freak out on her I Put a Spell on You nearly everyday for three years and im still finding nuances i didn't get before. Now i forget that shes a big person , 6' with proportionate larynx and lungs she can open fully low chest but have it express out and loud but not belting. Weve only heard her full belt yell on It's a Mans World at 11 i think. She can easily get loud but full and subtle yet like the last song here. This was a great reaction analysis. Please do a duo with the Fairy Voice Mother and really deconstruct a song together.

I always refer to ALL I ASK to explain the beautiful and subtle rephrasing that Angelina excels in. Adele sings What if I Never love....again. Angelina sings What if I Never.......love again. It makes all the difference. Its hauntingly vulnerable, it evokes all the wistful uncertainty. It is softer gentler more emotional. Like all great artists she makes the complex appear simple and effortless.

Before this past Christmas, I made a playlist of Angelina's Christmas songs and played it during the holiday season. My family enjoyed it immensely. The thing is, I am still running that AJ Xmas playlist occasionally now heading into the summer. I've never done that for any other artist, even Nat King Cole my former favorite xmas song artist. I always love all the technical details you throw in: very interesting and thanks! Angelina has gone as low as c3/c3# and during GNTM she sang also Love on the Brain and there she went really high in falsetto. Within that reach she can give her voice so many colours and changes between those so easily. She does dip into her chest voice her at times usually at the beginning of sentences. Angelina said that Adele is an inspiration and when she covers Adele, the covers are extra extra special. Rob is killing it at the piano without being ostentatious. Angelina sings this with so much feeling making you feel all of it. It is just so beautiful! Mary’s boy child… I do not care too much for the original. Angelina does a smashing job of course and the band is great as well :-)

This was actually the first time I have seen the live version of her sing Mary's Boy Child. When she was 11 year old she sang this at a radio station and it was taped but no video, but the sound is from the mic not from the room....

I hadn’t heard the Adele original either, but Angelina killed it! What I also appreciate is how much emotion she is able to channel into her performance. She has an “old soul” that she seems to be able to tap into. I can only imagine how much more she will be able to blossom once she sings from personal experience. Especially with a Caribbean lilt. AJ generally does her recordings in one take, straight through. I would assume that this (first one) is live, absent other data. My uneducated and untrained ear 😮 thinks Angelina uses fore and back phrasing to help her vocals stand out from the instrumentals, because they don’t start at the same moment and interfere with each other.

Hi Tami! I am not a vocal coach hahaha but I’m sincerely going to take this as a huge compliment🙏🙏 I was an audio tech for a long time, and just observed a ton of incredible singers. After a while, I was able to help performers get what they needed out of a show - lots of the time it would be a tough note at the end of the night or maybe one section for the guitar players to harmonize, but I’d just help to make sure the show went smooth 😁
