Nice reaction! She's actually 9 years old here. Oh boy, you are going to be bombarded by her fans called Angels that will fill you in on this music prodigy from Norway. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. She entered and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Now 16 years old, living in Los Angeles, and is signed with Republic Records, whose clients include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Drake to name a few. Her family and Republic Records have agreed not to heavily promote her just yet so she can live as normal of a life as possible and finish her schooling. She is working on a new album of original music which will be coming out next year. She recently returned back from Norway. She had a couple of sold out concerts she did and she will travel to Japan as well. Her fans call her The Barefoot Princess. She always performs with no shoes when she sings. Why? The reason is very special. When she was 6 years old, she was traveling with her family in Iran where she met a shoeless homeless girl in the streets that was about her age. She made money by weighing people. After speaking with her for a few minutes, Angelina noticed the scars on the girl's feet and asked the girl what her dream is. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor but she couldn't because she had to make money for her family. Angelina did what came natural to her, she gave the little girl her shoes and told her to not give up on her dreams. Since then, Angelina has performed barefoot in honor of that little girl and to those who are less fortunate around the world. She keeps this promise to this day. One of the reasons why we love her so much!

What you will soon realize is that Angelina today at 16 Angelina is already the best Jazz singer on the Planet! Soon to be one of the Best Vocalists of All Time. Angelina won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8 yrs old after starting the competition at 7 yrs old. The youngest winner of any Got Talent show on the planet. Thank you for continuing your journey of discovering Angelina. She is well worth every moment you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZbin, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she con convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Yes, Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956. She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. Things I found particularly worthy of note in this video are (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand (g) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

You have fallen into the vortex of Angelina Jordan who arguably brings the most confident, versatile, seemingly effortless, and fearless vocal artistry found today (whether measured across artists, genres, or decades). You may think this an exaggeration but listen to a few more of her many performances (150+ covers plus original songs - all on YT) and you will see! She has been performing at a high level all over the world since age 8 when she won Norway's Got Talent singing Billie Holiday, Nancy Sinatra, and Gershwin. It is the rare singer that can, as Angelina has done, go from Queen to "Screamin" Jay Hawkins to Adele to Elvis to Whitney Houston to Michael Jackson to Etta James to James Brown to Amy Winehouse to the Beatles (and many others in between) and do them all justice! Angelina is a 10 in many ways! BTW, she is 16.5 yo now. If you want to hear music, listen to anyone. If you want to feel music, listen to Angelina. She will stagger you with her ability to find and bring forth the 'essence', the emotional message of nearly any song. You have far to go with Angelina. She is equally comfortable and equally able to impact us whether singing a cappella, accompanied only by a piano or guitar, in front of professional studio musicians or a 40-piece military band. With her immense vocal toolkit, arranging ability (yeah, that too, since about 8yo or so) and the work ethic to make what she does only 'seem' effortless, she will hopefully be touching hearts for a long time to come. Why God has performed the miracle of touching the world with one of such talent, musical IQ, commitment, and generosity as Angelina we can wonder but we must all marvel. Welcome aboard the AJ train! It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). The thing that boggles my mind, is that husky raspiness in her voice that is _so_ 40s and 50s. Like, you don't usually get a voice like that unless you're _in_ your 40s or 50s and have smoked 20 a day since you were like 10 LOL - and here it is, emenating from a NINE year old! It's funny that you compare her to Freddie Mercury, she has some persian blood just like Freddie. They are about as awesome singers too, if you ask me. Angelina is a musical genious, like Freddie was. Did you know she sang "Bohemian Rhapsody" on America's Got Talent: Champions in 2019? She rearranged it to suit her own vision of it and blew everyone away, earning her the golden buzzer. The remainding members of Queen Tweeted that they loved it, and they even allowed her to copyright her version. She remains my favourite artist of all time, and to be frank it's not even close. With other artists, I've got maybe 10 songs that I treasure. With AJ, it's more like top 50. She's so versatile and insanely talented at the same time. So full of surprises around every turn, listening to her never gets old. I've got a couple of gems that I put very high - "At Last" (Etta James) soundcheck before a wedding. Angelina Jordan Astar (Astar is the family name) was 9 here and is 16 now. She entered Norway got Talent (grown up version) at 7 and won. At 13 she rocked America got talent with amongst others an amazing rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. She performs barefoot because at the age of 6 she met a poor street girl. She gave the girl her boots and performed barefoot since in remembrance of the girl and to raise awareness for poor children. She was involved in the arrangement of the song and at the beginning you are her handing over a sheet of last minute changes. She was not bored but totally inside the song and in the performance :-)

Have you ever watched classic Dracula movies from the 1930’s or 40’s what I was meaning was the lisp which I believe was intentional. The looks bored was actually a compliment. She’s so talented that she’s giving 100% without it looking like 100% but I’m sure you’ve heard the analogy so good they make it look effortless. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. Well perhaps this is what she does when she does play and we get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 16 years old... That is unfathomable!... Oh Lord... what is coming the world is not prepared for but we as fans have been on the edge of our seats and will remain there as we wait. No hurry. We want Angelina to do it her way when she is ready. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her. We know Angelina will continue to amaze! We will be here to experience and cherish it for as long as we live.... and I am praying for many more years for myself to enjoy it till the end of my days... Hello Buddy. This is the second reaction to Angelina that I see from you. Thanks a lot for returning to her. Anyone who can sing like this at 9 years 2 months old deserves all the reactions they can have. And praise. Because what you guys just heard is probably going to go down as one of the most incredible child performances of all time. After Angelina's career takes off after she's finished school, this performance will take on a life of its own I think. Her career may even take off sooner than that, as her 1st album after she signed with Republic Records in 2020, at age 14, is due out early next year. Angelina participated in AGT The Champions at age 13. Her 1st performance, "Bohemian Rhapsody" gave her the golden buzzer and sent her straight to the final. The whole audience was on their feet. The same thing (except the golden buzzer part) happened on her 2nd performance "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Sir Elton John. AGT had been trying to get her on for years, after she won Norway's Got Talent at 8 years old, but they were turned down. When she finally did agree, it was on the premise that she didn't have to sign any contract with Simon Cowell if she indeed did win. The first 5 finalists are all given a contract with Simon, so she conveniently ended 6th in the competition. I have a very strong feeling that it was planned ahead, but that they still wanted her on the show. At least, Angelina got what she wanted, to showcase her voice and talent to a world wide audience. Queen themselves were so impressed by Angelina's "Bohemian Rhapsody" cover that they pinned it on their social media and WOWed her for the rendition. They even gave her the copyright to it, so that all proceedings would go to Angelina. They also gave her permission to perform it where she see fit. That is praise from the VERY highest order by a band that normally is VERY protective of their material. Whenspeaking of copyright, Angelina also got the copyright to her studio recording of Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing". That recording are stilljust a few months old, so maybe that would be a great performance to continue your Angelina journey with ? Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. AJ’s Christmas Show that live-streamed on Dec 23 of 22 had some of the most important musicians of our time: Frank Sinatra's drummer for 6 years, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field has won 9 Grammys, and the bass player, Chuck Berghofer who also played for Sinatra for 6 years and toured with Barbara Streisand accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show that aired Dec 23 of 21, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra, to name a few. The main pianist, a five-time nominated for Grammys, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, the Eurythmics, and Doctor Dre, was part of the band for the show? Jimmy stated that AJ was the best he has ever played for. Rob Christie Republic Records Studio Director at Universal Music Group Manhattan Beach, California played the guitar, and was the MC of the show. Rob has been working with AJ from the very 1st day Republic signed her at age 14. Let’s analyze the video: 1st you see how small and cute she is. 2nd you see she is barefoot (story below) 3rd You see her making her “Wish List” of suggested changes to the song. 4th the band leader taking note of the changes. 5th Angelina is holding a candle with “Screemin’ Jay Hawkin’s (original artist 1956) picture on it. 6th the old soul in her voice. She is the youngest published author in Norway. Angelina wrote and her Grandmother illustrated a book about why she sings barefoot. She was on a trip to Iran where her grandmother is from and met a street girl weighing people for money. Angelina sat and talked with the girl. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, a doctor but that it could never happen. Angelina told her to never give up hope. The girl complimented Angelina on her shoes and Angelina noticed her scarred bare feet so she gave them to her, and the little girl told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina sings barefoot to this day to remind herself (and the world) that there are still children in need. All book proceeds go to charity.
