Angelina is barely 9 years old here! This is pure jazz! The growlings, the raspiness, the originality, but also the diction, every aspect of the song relates to jazz. And, by the way, at the beginning of the video, she gives her own arrangement for the song as a wish list to the director! It will become a tradition: her covers will always be originals to the originals. We call her a child prodigy or a musical genius. Do you think that it is an exaggeration? Remember, you rewinded three times and you even put your headphone to make up your mind. What an homage! In a sense, she is as crazy in her rendition as Hawkins was! Jazz is in her blood! She has "hardcore singing training" her grandma is a former well-known jazz singer. So she has worked as her vocal trainer, so to speak. But she is an odd entity prodigy you come across once in a lifetime. Listen to "I´m still holding on to your" It´s about 10-year´s difference between that one and I put a spell on you. When you do that you can hear how much her voice has matured. And she´s only 16 when she´s doing that one.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but her grandmother is not a singer, but a painter and poet. She's a big jazz fan but not a musician. And there's not a 10-year difference between "I Put a Spell on You" and "I'm Still Holding Out for You" but only about a year. She was 9 years old for "I Put A Spell..." and a week shy of 11 for "I'm Still Holding...". And I think her training back then was mostly after school classes. Now she's 15.

Oh, you did it, and you made me happy! Thank you! Angelina is said to be Norwegian, but I think she comes from Planet Jazz in the Music Galaxy. Her nationality is Norwegian, but her ancestry is Swedish, Persian, Japanese, & maybe a little Italian. English is her third language, fourth if you consider her fist language to be music. She plays piano, guitar, flute, and violin. Her grandmother, the woman you saw at the door when Angelina came into the studio, is the Iranian artist, Mery Zamani. She was herself a child prodigy, is a painter, poet, author, & is teaching Angelina to paint and directs most of her videos. She introduced Angelina to jazz in her infancy, & took her around to record shops to buy jazz albums when she was just a little girl. Angelina says she wants to spread love in the world with her music and wants to save the universe. I deliberately didn't tell you anything about Angelina when I made the request, because I wanted to see your totally shocked, amazed, and genuine reaction. And I knew her fans would find you and tell you more about her. They are legion and fiercely loyal. If you continue to follow her, and I hope you do, be aware that you will not hear her sing quite like this again. I suspect that she was told that if she continued to use her voice in this way she would damage her young vocal cords. But everything she does is magic. Everybody and their dog has covered this old jazz classic, some 200 singers, & some great artists. I used to think that only those by Nina Simone and CCR were worth listening to until I heard Angelina. Now she tops them all.

Angelina Jordan the Barefoot princess...Girl with 1000 voices. She started singing jazz at the age of 1.5 yrs. She was born with this amazing gift. She does over 100 covers ,has written her original songs each greater then the last. She won Norways Got Talent at age 7yrs old. She is simply amazing and NEVER disappoints. Look at her old school covers. She is from Norway, but her voice is from another galaxy. She bring the legends back to us. She make covers from Aretha Franklin, Billy Holiday, Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra etc. She always respects the classic, but she do her own also at all her cover. She began to sing with 1,5 years.

The black dude on the candle Angelina is holding is Screaming Jay Hawkins, the originator of the 1956 song. The song has been covered by many artists but none have done it with this much soul. In this video you can see her writing notes on the musical arrangement, which the music director looks at and smiles. Angelina is a prodigy and an old soul. She is two months past her ninth birthday in this performance. She is incredibly talented. She always performs barefooted and there's a great story explaining that, too.

I have been around for many years, and have never heard anyone that captured my attention as quickly and completely as Angelina Jordan. Aside from that insanely good voice she has, she also has a presence about her that just draws you in. So humble and so kind. I always like to leave this little bio for people just finding Angelina so that you can get a little background (the Angelina fans might be tired of seeing this, but I think it's important know who she is).... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 14 (just 9 years old in this performance) - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos. - *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person. - She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need. - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. They do not want her to be thrust into stardom before she has a chance to grow up as a normal child, and finish her education. They allow her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that come in. I have heard they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 120 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else) - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent. - Angelina has written three of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a magical world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.

Quite the voice When Angelina (from Oslo) was 6 years old, she met a homeless girl around her age in Iran. (Her grandmother is Iranian artist Mery Zamani.) The girl did not have any shoes, and Angelina says her feet were scarred. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes. Not only does Angelina honor the young homeless girl she met by performing barefoot, but she also wrote a book about the experience. It’s called Mellom to jherter (“Between two hearts”), and was published in 2015, when Angelina was only 9 years old. According to her website, Angelina then “vowed never to appear on stage again wearing shoes until all the world’s children had them.” She keeps that promise to this day, as she says that little girl “is always in my heart.” She arranges all of her own music.

Ya ever hear the phrase "1 in a Million"? Well, she is 1 of them. And her Parents have done a GREAT JOB keeping her out of the public's eye(s). That is why we never saw the video of her at 9, until she was 14 and able to deal/understand the reactions. She was STILL able to have a childhood. I applaud that.

To me it feels like Jay Hawkins played the black, scary, wild, voodoo man for white people - he had a bone pierced through his nose. She refined it somehow and brought a seriousness to the song - the passion of loving someone that way, the wanting and matter of fact "I put a spell one you" behind his lyrics... It's impressive. Don't know how she did it, maybe she channeled a tantrum (not related to love) to get these, sometimes angry, possessive emotions right. My 3year old is very impressive with them, especially because they're fruitless.

All the arrangements of the songs she sings are done by her. That is why you see her holding a pen in her hand and handing over a sheet of paper to the director of the band. That piece of paper has all her changes to the song and that is why the director smiles when he reads them

Hello - Welcome to Angelina's world. Buckle up if you are going to take this ride down the rabbit hole of over 120 covers and other videos that she has recorded between the ages of 6 and 14 which is her current age. She has already established herself as the jazz queen of our time. Her preferred genre is Jazz but she has done covers of about every genre you can name. What you will find in Angelina is a vocalist who doesn't do vocal gymnastics, she simply and beautifully interprets the story and meaning of the song and pours her soul into every performance. Angelina has sung for Barrack Obama, Quincy Jones, Nobel Laureates, the king of Sweden, the king of Norway, and other dignitaries. She has performed everywhere from small weddings of a few people, to London's O2 stadium with 40,000 people. She performs at jazz festivals, conferences, and charity benefits. At the age of 14, she is a seasoned performer with 8 years of recording and performing. Many of her live performances when she was 10, 11, and 12 years old blow away even the original adult performers of the songs she sings. She is definitely worth your time to experience and get to know. The good news is, this video is unique. No other performance of hers is quite like this one. The bad news is, that doesn't really matter, because the video has done its job. The spell is cast. When she was 6 years old on holiday she and her family met a poor girl about the same age as Angelina working as a street vendor, she had scares on her feet so Angelina gave the girl her own shoes and promised to never perform with shoes again until all children in the world can afford to have shoes. That was a fluke listen as it just happened to show up on youtube. I listened to both of her AGT performances and then went to this one...I got sucked down the worm hole, rabbit hole, and ultimately put on to the Angelina Jordan Magical Mystery Train! It's a fun trip as most of her covers bring out timbers, tones, colors, emotions, and hidden "spells" from this current song you reviewed to hook you and give you a different feel/flavor/taste/emotion than the original. The reason she was barefoot is because she was on vacation and saw a girl about her age sitting on the side of the road with no shoes. She gave the girl her shoes and performs barefoot in respect for all those children. She is truly a amazing young lady.
