Born in Oslo January 10th 2006, she was eleven years old in this concert. The same year in March, she was visiting her relatives in Japan (Moms father was a japanese gentleman). AJ got a phone call from Seoul/Korea, Nora Jones asked her to help out at a fundraiser concert. No problem for AJ, calling her friend and guitarist Egil Clausen, to meet her in Seoul, they performed there on March 23rd 2017 in front of 40,000+ people. So no biggie. LOL. There is a video out there, where she introduces her doll collection in fluid english at the age of 5. She grew up with 3 languages: Norske, Farsi and English. She also speaks little Japanese and Swedish.

For a Norwegian girl Swedish is easy to understand. Becaause her dad is Swedish, especially as a young girl she used a lot of Swedish words. Those 2 languages are very close.

She is half swedish . a quarter persian, a quarter Japanese, that's where her beautiful eyes come from, and born in Oslo, Norway, where she was brought up until the family moved to L A to advance her career when she was about 12 .

Another great reaction Shakes! She was 11 years old here. This is the same concert that she performed the "Cry me a River" you reacted to earlier. It doesn't matter what genre she is performing, she always starts with the perfect song base, adds her own style, sprinkles a little jazz and soul into it, and then cranks it up to 11 for a perfect sound. I have listened to her entire catalog more times than I can count and it never gets old. I got a couple more coming at you soon. Thanks for keeping it real.

This is the song, I Just Want To Make Love To You, but 11 yo Angelina changed the lyrics to age appropriate, Lovin' You. Yes Shakes, she has massive amounts of "soul." One voice coach in a reaction said "She's got more soul in her little finger than other artists have in their whole body." That pretty much says it all.

Yes, that crack in her voice is intentional. Angelina can flip into vocal fry and slide back to her “normal” voice easily and smoothly. (If Angelina has a normal voice.) As much as you’ve been impressed by her, there are so many more songs that will knock you over. While her soul is so amazing, there’s one song where she goes full-on gospel, with maybe a little r&b thrown in. It’s Angelina at 10 before a big outdoor crowd just killing “Something’s Got a Hold on Me”. She is such a natural and incredibly authentic with her gospel vibe. Just a joy to watch and hear her demolish another genre in a one-off performance.

I think this rarely reacted to performance is one of the most telling performance of hers in that it shows she can sing absolutely anything with ease and total understanding. She's ten or eleven years old here and her musical intellect is mind blowing. My wish is to see her with an American gospel choir doing Melonies song LAY DOWN.

I would love to see her perform at the New Orleans Jazz fest. I was at the jazz fest in 2013 and remembering the atmosphere there I think she could be seen as a native performer topping above all. Angelina's father was employed as Asset Manager Iran in a Norwegian oil company in 2007 - with his office in New Mexico! - (He is still working there).. Angelina probably spent much time in the US her early years learning Norwegian and English simultaneously. There is a video of her at 3yo shopping in the US, a video from a pre school Christmas event in the US when she probably was 4, and there is a video of Angelina singing and guiding around in her house in English at 6 (The video says 5, but that seems to be incorrect). - And she has watched - and probably understood Simon Cowell since she was 3. - All this supports the theory that English is not her 3rd language as many claims it to be.

Yeah the quality of the recording is not the best, but despite that you still feel the magic of her and that awesome band. They just rock the hell out of the place, giving blood and soul and have ahelluva time doing so. Shakes the venue for this performance is proysen festival proysen is the last name of a man named Alf Proysen he was an author poet playwrite and songwriter he is most noted in Norway for a series of children's books call Mrs. Pepperpot he died of cancer at age 56 back in the 70's this festival takes place on the property on which he was born

I am so glad you reacted to this one. So many reactors skip it for some reason, and that is a travesty. Angelina does an amazing job at the blues. I wish she could have sung with BB King or Stevie Ray Vaughn. I also wish she would go do some improvised jazz sessions with the greats at places like the Blue Note, or similar. Wish some of the ones that are still around would take note and colab with her to bring old school to new school ears. I used to have a CD called To Diz With Love where a number of great jazz musicians got together with Dizzy Gillespie. I would love to hear her taking part in something like that. I think she could hold her own without issue.

Somehow she wrings the very best performances from musicians she works with. Does mom stand backstage shaking a whip? Does grandma Mery threaten to reincarnate an ancient Persian army if they don't make Angelina happy? No, that would be counter to Angelina's message of love and worldwide inclusion. 💜 Instead, musicians react to her talent and professionalism to produce exceptionally sensitive jazz in respectful co-operation with a skilled colleague.

I'm guessing other people have addressed this already, but the solution to your "problem" about where she was born is this: She was born in Oslo, Norway, and lived there for most of her childhood up to 12 (and at least visited the U.S. [if not lived here] when she was 3, and lived for some amount of time in the Middle East, where she was when she met the little shoeless girl at the age of 6). But despite all that, her first language was not Norwegian, nor English. It was Whitney Houston. 😁 Specifically, her version of "I Will Always Love You". (Surely you must know by now that she started singing that song at 1½.) And since Whitney "grew up in the church"… 😉

Angelina apparently works hard on her pronunciation which leads one to conclude that she isn't just mimicking. There's at least one studio rehearsal video where she mispronounced a word and went back to correct it. Instead of singing "gambler" she pronounced it "glamber". Often, when a reviewer says AJ has an accent, I hear the Southern US jazz sounds of the original artist she is singing. For example, Billie Holiday had a pronounced accent in her singing which AJ picks up on does a credible copy of. This is a phenomenal performance worthy of the world stage but it was not captured well enough to get anyone's attention. Such a loss. Love your reviews, keep up the good work.

Personally, I prefer the more low-key songs from this concert (especially "Cry Me a River" and "Faded", the latter of which you have not done yet), but this one is certainly also a highlight. Regarding that "break" in her voice near the end, her high notes are also a bit rough in "Diamonds Are Forever" (which otherwise is great). I mean, they're not _bad_ by any means (I have yet to hear _anything_ from her that actually sounds _bad_ **), but they're just a bit too "strained" for my comfort. There are several performances out there where she sounds sick (sometimes obviously so, sometimes not), but they're mostly from when she was 8 and 9. I don't think she was sick here. BTW, I think I already said this in your "Cry Me a River" reaction, but there are "enhanced" versions of many of the songs from this concert, where the sound has been EQd better and her vocal "brought forward" in the mix, to the extent possible. These can be found in a playlist called "Sound enhancements for Angelina's summer tour 2017" on Boris Palenovski's channel (same place this video came from). (** OK, yeah… I _have_ heard "bad" singing from her. But we're not going to talk about that. 🤐)

And obviously she was exposed to jazz since birth and took to it like a fish to water. I do not believe there has ever been a jazz vocal prodigy like her.

I am Italian and my wife Trinidadian (english commonwealth) but my kids have been raised in International school around the world (I am an expat in the construction industry) from the age of 3 till now in high school so because of that English now became their 1st language but I am still trying to maintain them bi-lingual. (I am now posted in Nairobi). And by the way I have lived in Denmark for 4 years and I can assure you that in Scandinavia every one from young kids to older persons are quite proficient in English as you might have already figured out
