This song is nearly a hundred years old, and has been covered by countless artists, but nobody can match Angelina's version IMO. She did basically this same version at 9 and I loved it then, but this new one is next level. I know most people point to the 10 year old version for comparison, but the 9 year old one (live at Hagekonsert på Aksept) is much closer to this one in terms vocal choices and pacing... and Angelina always brings that extra bit of magic when she is live in front of a crowd. When the shoes come off she seems to go into a whole different gear.

Agree Rusty. But I really like the 10 y o Angie version, for she just sitting on a chair with no mic & singing it to her grandma Mery & us. It's also the full version of the 1937 song verse the jazz standard version. Which Angie at 16 has no equal for it (IMOP)

Angelina brings back the Golden Age of Hollywood with this all-time Jazz classic. Her impeccable voice and ability to set the atmosphere to create this Instagram video. She has two other videos of this song when she was 9 and 10 years old. This is an all-time famous jazz classic that was covered by over 600 artists and recorded, I think, around 1,400 times. I was really surprised that you weren't aware of this song.

My personal observations: 1) It seems to me that Angelina comes from a family that hopes she succeeds but does not need her to, so there is no pressure from that side. 2) We are told she has great creative freedom from her label so she doesn't need to fulfill the creative expectations of others who are pursuing their own fortunes through her. 3) She seems to be focused on others to a great extent (remember why she still performs barefoot), so she hopefully doesn't feel she must achieve fame for her own life story. The perfect combination - one of the greatest talents ever in the perfect environment to do great things. Just my 2 cents worth.
@murtheblur2 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying and I agree, however, she doesn't have a perfect environment. Life brings surprises, such as unexpected passings like grandfathers. Avicii, and others. Also, her grandmothers battle with breast cancer. Not everything is rosy.

@@murtheblur I agree that everything is not perfect. I guess I was thinking along the lines of the usual pitfalls around expectations (of others and yourself) that derail many young artists.

Thanks, Nathan, for another good reaction to Angelina, appreciating her amazing talent. You're so right, her family and team are sheltering her from what can be devastating sudden fame and its crazy pressures. And yet I believe Angelina herself has an uncommon amount of wisdom and is more mature than most young performers. I believe she values her Shields and will protect herself as she goes on. I draw this belief from her behavior and the fact that she's already encountered worldwide fame and performing for huge audiences. Not to mention her compassion.

I realize that I'm an old man and can't relate but the fact that anybody would not immediately understand that 'My Funny Valentine' as the 'CLASSIC" song (especially since it's exactly the kind of song AJ would record) absolutely astonishes me. That's not a criticism, just an observation, but with Angelina, I think it's really, really, helpful to be familiar with the original version of a song she's covering to appreciate all that she's doing. Angelina often sings LIKE other singers but doesn't sound like them. Take 'I Put a Spell on You" for example. Most people would have expected her to cover the Nina Simone version, because that's the one most people know. When I realized she was covering the Screamin' Jay Hawkins original, I figured that for once this little girl would have to come up short. Then she delivered that incredible interpretation of what was originally a madcap rant, turned it into an expression of 'desperate love' and you realize what a pure and legitimate artist she was even at 9. That's because she takes what we love about the original and works her magic with it. Nice reaction, but more information would have been helpful. And yes, she's wearing contacts. Her eyes are brown. 😎

@@musicluvr70 hi, about 2 weeks ago I really a comment about her contacts in an interview. I got curios and dived back into her book and there in the paintings of her grandma an d aj´s descriptions I saw the blue eyes. Gary if you can afford the money for the english download, IMO it is worth every cent, because you then also understand the emphaty and the IQ she MUST have to realise, all those things. Sorry she has her books only in download anymore. She wrote on Insta and Patreon, the publishing house went bankrupt and she bought the last existing books from them. The downloads are safeguarded, so that only you, the buyer can access them, from what I can understand. To much greedy people out there. And a little part of her proceedings go to charity. And if I may say here, the family needs the money, hospital and healthcare are astronomical expensive in the USA. You can easily go broke. As you follow her families history the past few years you can conclude what I meen. AJ asked, not to reveal to much. PEACE from South Germany

I bought it, in Norwegian, before there was any Kindle version. I don't speak or read Norwegian. I spent a lot of time translating the book using Google and other aids as well as help from native Norwegian speakers. As each sentence was revealed my wonder and respect for the author grew. I would not trade that experience for anything and am very glad I didn't wait for a translated version. It's just my opinion but, if I could have the choice of buying the original version vs a translated version, I would buy the original. I think it might have something to do with the relationship between Angelina and her diary entries as age 6 and the thoughts and feeling expressed in those diary entries which in no way resemble the mental processes of a six-year old. When you have to do the translating, it slows you down and inadvertently provides processing time for your brain to take in what you are seeing. If it's already translated for you, you can just read at a normal pace and miss the real context.

@@elmarwinkler6335, I suppose I could afford the digital version, but I'm "old School". If I buy something, I want to be able to hold it in my hands. I'm 67, and although at the moment my health isn't terrible, I am still required to make frequent doctors visits. I am willing to bet that Angelina's family is better equipped to deal with money issues than I am, but if Republic Records makes her albums available on vinyl, or her book is republished on paper, I will be sure to purchase all that I am able. In the meantime I will support her on her KZbin channels and spread the word of how amazing she is. 🙏 PEACE to you also, from the US

@@ShanLiB, I wanted to buy the original version, but the cost of the book and shipping to the US at the time, put the cost out of my budget. Translating it through internet search would have given me something to do, but as I said, the cost back then was more than I could afford for something that wasn't a necessity.

It is not just any song, it is an absolute classic :-) Especially in the way that Angelina sings it: she takes you on a trip back in time to about 50-60 years ago. It has been recorded over a 1,000 times and I think this goes way up to the top. She sings this so divinely beautiful dancing around the melody sliding and skipping from note to note using her rich vocal toolbox with all sorts of different voice use and dynamics, not to impress but to give us this magnificent performance. I can listen to this version on repeat for a long time. Each time when you think she cannot get better, she just jumps ahead and gets better and better. The version you used contains artifacts (the high whistle tones), if you want to listen to again (and of course you want!), you’ll find this version free of them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4WqfZWpfKl0f5I
