Yeah, I thought your reaction to this was very nice. I think all of us want to hear Angelina “blow the dust out” once in awhile, but this occasion just didn’t fit for that……and then she held us all breathless while she gave us those delicate final 3 or 4 notes that no one else can ever do. And how beautiful was she in that gown and jewelry? She gave that occasion and that performance exactly what we all really needed to hear and see. Wow……..just magnificent. Thanks for your reaction. Hello Ashlena. Thank you fir the great reaction. The moderator sat with the children of the Nobel Peace Prize winner. They haven't seen their mother in years because she is imprisoned in Iran. So it wasn't about Angelina, but about Ms. Mohammadi. Three other women from Iran also sang and Angelina is partly (grandmother) Iranian. The song is an excerpt from the stream, which was broadcast live worldwide.

I loved your reaction Ashlena. In my opinion,she is the greatest vocalist of my time. Her style of singing and her vocal skills plus her tone is just outstanding! I am 68 years old and AJ has “put a spell on me”. I can’t get enough of her. There has been many excellent vocalists in the past and present but none as outstanding as Angelina. I was thumbing through YT almost 5 years ago and came across this show called Little Big Shots. I've now listened to everything (I think) she's done, and most multiple times. I'm not saying Angelina is the "best" singer on the planet, just that she's my favorite. What made her performance even more dramatic is the reason why she was there and why she chose this song to sing. The Nobel Peace Prize Award went to an imprisoned woman in Iran because of her stand for woman's rights. Her children (twins, a boy and a girl) now living in France accepted the award and the hope is that after years in prison she would be released and reunited with her family. Angelina combined both tenderness and power in her performance as a messenger of love. My wish is that the Iranian authorities who can free Narges Mohammadi listened to Angelina sing and will consider doing exactly that.

Hi Aslena, Angelina held back with this performance cuz it was a tribute to her grand mothers friend in Iran thats in a Iranian prison for standing up for womens rights in Iran. Angelina gave this the respect it needed. Shes a class act. This is the second time the nobel peace prize folks asked Angelina to perform.The first time was when she was 8 years old, then now at 17, I predict they will be asking her in the future to perform in honor of Angelina , With all her charities she has and all her humanitarian work for poverty kids throughout the world, She deserves a nobel for sure. I listened a lot to Lana in the 10th, she was quite successful here in Germany, e.g. Video Games was a number one in the single charts. I agree she does beautiful songwriting and has a good voice which I like. Angelina met Lana, a while ago there was a picture on her socials with Lana, Angelina and Angelina's younger sister Juliette. She also covered a couple songs from Lana. I believe this performance needed a little more of a somber approach, as it is honoring a woman (Narges Mahommadi) who is imprisoned in Iran. The woman's children were in the audience, and were accepting the Nobel in her honor. So of course Angelina wouldn't want the focus to be on her in this case. As far as Angelina's early performances, I thought about it, and yes some were very close to the original style and or sound, but many were not ie "I Put A Spell On You". She completely changed that song and made it her own (age 9) Then of course there is her iconic performance of "Bohemian Rhapsody at 13. To me Angelina has always had her own vision of what any particular song should sound like. Of course her voice and technique have grown better and better over the years. I believe the fact that Angelina's beloved grandmother Mery Zamani is Iranian, fuels her desire in wanting to 'especially' perform at this year's Nobel Peace Prize event. Whereas Billie Holiday is her musical mentor, Grandmother Mery is her mentor in virtually all other aspects of her life. Not even Bobby Hadfield's 'Gold Standard' performances of this song was able to reach the depths of my inner being with the emotion laden penetration that she accomplishes here. It is a perfect tribute to a courageous woman (Narges Mohammadi) languishing in an Iranian prison for her attempt to bring women's 'human' rights to light in Iran. I would think that if Bobby heard this in the 'far beyond', it would have brought a tear to his eye as it did to me.

John Gary vs Angelina Jordan Unchained Melody One of the most memorable experiences of my life was seeing John Gary perform live in Seattle, WA, when I was 20 years old. He had such a powerful and beautiful voice that filled the whole auditorium. During the break, he sat down on the edge of the stage and played his guitar, singing Unchained Melody with so much emotion and passion. It was a sublime moment that I shared with my wife, and I felt like we were the only ones in the room. At that time, I thought to myself; how could anyone top that performance, but 56 years later a 17-year-old Angelina Jordan just did. Angelina Jordan's performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway in 2023 blew me away. She sang with such passion and emotion that I felt every word in my soul. She truly captured the essence of the song and made it her own. and she is only 17-year-old. I have never heard anything like it before, this genius never ceases to amaze me.

Ashlena, thanks for your reaction to this sincere, respectful, stunning performance by Angelina Jordan. Once you know the background of Narges Mohammadi, you will fully understand why Angelina was restrained with her vocal choices. This performance was all about Narges and not about Angelina. I thought "Unchained Melody" was a odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later. Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

You didn’t hear what the MC said before they started the tape. To catch you up, the Nobel winner is a woman who is in prison for championing women’s causes. She’s been in there quite a while. Angelina was being so respectful of her and sang the song with her and her situation in mind , adding all the feeling that only she can. Her two twin daughters, ages 17, were there to accept the award for their mom. It was all very emotional and touching, and as usual, Angelina handled it with perfection and grace.

Hallo, i agree: she could have introduced her, as "our national treasure, the SECOND TIME to our ceremony, with Iranian descent also personally involved...." While her careful, delicate take on Unchained here perfect fitting to the heart wrenching occasion, i would call the new Gold Standard for this song, her performance in New Hampshire is the most soul touching singing i have ever seen. Would that only be recorded and published in top quality 😢 Oh, and she almost never copycatted a cover, but took always her own special musical artistry on them.

I love this performance, but may be in the minority in preferring her slower tempo performance of this song at Portsmouth a few months ago. The Portsmouth recording, actually any recording does not do justice to her amazing voice live. I generally prefer her otherworldly voice to have minimal accompaniment.

The video starts by saying that Angelina is there to honor a cause. The introduction was not so much about her, but why she was there. People should at least be curious to learn what that cause is. So please read the comments. Thankfully, many of Angelina's fans think it is important to explain the context and significance of this event and do a wonderful job informing those who don't know Narges Mohammadi's story.

I hope you realize Angelina was invited to sing with two other Iranian women to draw attention to Narges Mohammadi Who won the prize for trying to help women,s right in Iran was imprisoned 8yrs ago but had 31 years to do and 185 lastes.Angelina does a lot of charity work and her grandmother was born in Iran so they were excited to put her as one of the 3 women singing for the cause of women,s rights.I listen to your friend Lene Delray but I never compare them as theyboth have unique voices of their own. But Lana has she ever seen and been anywere else than the USA? Angelina has been travelling and experienced things in many countries since early childhood. "Man lär sig mer när man reiser än i skolan" as she said in norwedgian in a TV sent interview when she was nine and just published a book. Ashlena, I have watched your reactions for some time now, starting a bit before you began reacting to the Warning. You do a great job and are very genuine with your comments and emotions. A bit of constructive criticism though.... Viewers almost unanimously appreciate when a reactor does just a couple of minutes of homework prior to recording the video. Knowing what the event is, where it's located, knowing the song, etc are all crucial to being able to respond accurately and analyze what you see and hear. In this instance, not really knowing what the event was about, or Angelina's obvious intentions as a result, caused you to misinterpret some of the performance, although I know you really loved it. Again, nothing critical of you but just I think a valuable suggestion going forward. . Angelina inspires me to do what I can to help make the world a better place, so I am asking all angels and others to spread the story of Narges Mohammadi. Angelina was recorded here at the Nobel Peace prize ceremony in Oslo Norway, performing this beautiful version of Unchained Melody. She paid tribute to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two twin children, who are 17, spoke on her behalf at this event. The more people who are aware and call for change, the more likely the leaders of Iran will set her free. I caught your comments at the end regarding Lana del Rey. I don't know if you are aware that Angelina has recorded two Lana del Rey songs that are considered phenomenal. Many think even better but I don't compare. Each brings something different to the table. If not better, I would say right up there with her. Born to die, and Young and Beautiful. Have always enjoyed Lana Delray but she is a grown woman ,yes Angelina has sung lots of covers ,starting at age 6 and with this performance is a teenager 17 so in comparison to cover with few exceptions Angelina versionis always different from the original as you said it is possibly to enjoy more than one

This was a very reverent performance....as far as finding her voice, she's still very much exploring. Did good on this one. Lana IS underrated, ( l discovered her breath taking voice because of AJ) but Angelina is, where Lana began... Angelina Jordan has more potential, in my opinion. I agree Ash , The introduction from that lady was kinda Lame. She could have said heres angelina jordan her second time here performing at the nobel peace prize event. In honor of narges who is in prison in Iran for standing up for womens rights in Iran . As you folks know angelinas grandma merry is Iranian and they are very close so this means alot to angelina. Iran is the country where angelina gave the homeless 6 year old girl her shoes and why she performs bare foot to this day and probablly will forever. Better than,( Yeah heres angelina jordan she came here from los angeles.) That woman who introduced angelina should be replaced . Maybe she could sweep up the back rooms or something ?
