In 2014, a little Norwegian girl was named and codified, a national treasure by both the King of Norway and the Prime Minister. That same year, she sang for the Nobel peace prize winners all at the age of 8. In 2023, that same girl, now almost 18 will once again grace the Nobel peace prize stage and sing for the recipient once again. That young girl is none other than Angelina Jordan. Angelina at the 2023 Nobel peace prize concert. Angelina Jordan just made history. Angelina is the only solo singer under the age of 18 to have performed twice at the Nobel peace prize concert. Angelina singing, "unchained melody" accompanied by KORK. When I learned the story of Narges Mohammadi, this years recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and the history of the song "Unchained Melody", I fully understood why Angelina Jordan chose this song.

John Gary vs Angelina Jordan Unchained Melody One of the most memorable experiences of my life was seeing John Gary perform live in Seattle, WA, when I was 20 years old. He had such a powerful and beautiful voice that filled the whole auditorium. During the break, he sat down on the edge of the stage and played his guitar, singing Unchained Melody with so much emotion and passion. It was a sublime moment that I shared with my wife, and I felt like we were the only ones in the room. At that time, I thought to myself; how could anyone top that performance, but 56 years later a 17-year-old Angelina Jordan just did. Angelina Jordan's performance at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Norway in 2023 blew me away. She sang with such passion and emotion that I felt every word in my soul. This song was originally written for the movie "Unchained". It was about a prisoner longing to be with his wife and family. Angelina has sung this song many times. It's a romantic song. But, here she is singing it for a mother who hasn't seen her children for 9 years. She's a woman's rights activist in Iran. Her 17 year old twins and husband are sitting right there with Angelina. Imagine the emotion. Angelina performs this rendition so softly and delicately... This is a real life occasion. Not a movie. It's as if this song was written for Angelina and this moment... As a very very young girl Angelina dreamed of performing a the Nobel Peace Prize concert. She performed at a Nobel Peace Prize children's event when she was 8 years old. But, this was the real deal. Now add in the fact that Angelina's Grandma is Iranian and you begin to see how special this event was. Let's hope Angelina and this Award will help bring about the day when this family can be together again... Narges Mohammedi is facing multiple sentences totaling 31 years and 154 lashes for her convictions and speaking up for Women's rights.

Angelina and her family have lived in LA since Angelina was 12 ( and even off and on before that) - she travels back to Norway periodically to do concerts and collaborate with other musicians as she did this for this performance - which was in Oslo.

I thought "Unchained Melody" was a odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later. Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". "Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

After this presentation, Angelina went on Instagram. Addressing the orchestra and their administrator, she expressed that she "beyond privileged" to have been asked to do this performance. She expressed her thanks for their "trusting" her in the "process" of creating this incredible rendition... While it's so often expressed that Angelina is an artist from another age, what you have here is old school professional with the character and humility so lacking in the modern-day artists... While the "Angels" are focused on Angelina's performance, she knows it was a very special team effort. She's not a super star. She was just another instrument on that stage. And, she sincerely appreciates all those who helped create this very special moment... This orchestra "KORK" was formed in 1946. It's one of the World's premier orchestras. Angelena performed with them twice when she was 10. She sang "Summertime" and "Back to Black". After performing "Back to Back", Angelina went back to the mixing studio and listened to the performance. There was something she didn't like. She spoke with her Uncle and the orchestra director. (Imagine how difficult this is for a 10 year old)... The orchestra went back, picked up their instruments and made whatever adjustments Angelina was requesting... Such respect for a little girl... a very special little girl... Wouldn't it be wonderful for them to do an album together... What a collaboration... It doesn't get any better.

She sang this directly to and for the recipient of the award and her family, twins (a boy and a girl) and her husband. This was a perfect example of Angelina being Angelina and expressing her love through song to those in need. The rendition of this classic song was beautifully performed by the wonderful Norwegian orchestra who had played for Angelina going back to when she was 8 years old. "Happy New Year" and we need to do whatever we can to share love with one another.

Wonderful reaction as always. Probably the finest performance I've seen from Angelina, but there are hundreds! She makes phenomenal choices as this was for a very solemn tribute which I describe below. The orchestra, Kork , is the national orchestra of Norway. The peace prize event was held in Oslo. Angelina has performed with them a few times in the past and they play so well together. No question my favorite accompaniment for her angelic voice. Angelina inspires me to do what I can to help make the world a better place, so I am asking all angels and reactors to spread the story of Narges Mohammadi. Angelina was recorded here at the Nobel Peace prize ceremony in Oslo Norway, performing this beautiful version of Unchained Melody. She paid tribute to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two twin children, who are 17, spoke on her behalf at this event. The more people who are aware and call for change, the more likely the leaders of Iran will set her free. Angelina pulled back ever so slightly to give respect to Narges Mohammadi and the Peace Prize ceremony selecting the perfect song for this somber occasion. As you may know, Narges Mohammadi is imprisoned in Iran for standing up for woman's rights and is on a hunger strike. Her twin daughter and son were here to except the Nobel Peace Prize on her behalf. "Unchained Melody" originally written for the prison movie "Unchained" (1956 I believe) where a imprisoned man longs for and misses his family....so this was perfect song selection from Angelina. To be very honest: I follow a few young female singers and for me Angelina Jordan and Lucy Thomas are the two who I find most impressive of them all. But I don't think one of them "is the best" because they are all so gifted, each in their own unique way. But when I see Angelina performing here I got goosebumps all over the place: this is so, so impressive, tasteful and fitting in that moment. Another reactor said about Angelina: "This girl has a rare gift: she is painting stories with her voice and that is what is getting us so emotional". To me that is a wonderful way to describe Angelina (and Lucy as well).

Many believe this is the Nobel Peace Price Ceremony. It is not. It is a 1 hour TV program in The "Great Studio" of the NRK TVstation. The program is mainly an interview with the two children of the Price Winner, imprisoned in Iran. They are here speaking of women's situation in Iran and of their mother's fight for equality, justice and freedom.There are three "breaks" in the session presenting music by artists with Iranian connections, and one performance of music by an Iranian composer. The program host/interviewer is also of Iranian descent. The orchestra is NRK's own orchestra, KORK.

You are right, the ceremony was held on Dec 10 in Oslo City Hall, and this concert was held the following day. However, it was part of the same multi-day event. There was an official classical concert as well that was part of the event, with this one being billed as a tribute. I believe that all of the principals were in attendance.

Not even Bobby Hadfield's 'Gold Standard' rendition permeates me to the level of emotion laden penetration she brings forth in this performance. It is a fitting tribute to Narges Mohammadi, who languishes in an Iranian prison for simply trying to improve women's rights in Iran.
