You just witnessed why this eight year old phenom is a bona fide musical genius. She is affectionately and respectfully referred to by the band members as being “the Boss”. She knows what she wants the arrangement to sound like and she respectfully and politely directs the musicians to follow her lead.

Hi Debbie! You're right, it really does boggle the mind seeing and hearing Angelina perform back then. Even in rehearsals. I'm glad nobody ever secretly took a video of me way back when I first discovered Angelina because I'm pretty sure my jaw was dropped the whole time. The funnier thing is that, even years later, I still get stunned looks on my face when I hear her newer stuff. Have a great weekend, Debbie!

AJ has been part of the arrangement to everything in her performances from 7 years old. She will ask the musicians if they will try other things for her, she never tells them to do anything,, and she don't have instructions she has "Wishes" when she was 10 on the recording of Back to Black they recorded the entire set in one take everyone loved it but AJ didn't look happy and she finally told grandma in her ear that she has messed up a run and was upset about it ,, grandma asked if they could do it again and all the band member told her not to worry about it because many musicians have to do takes over and over and over for other artist. When you see the video of AJ singing BACK To Black this was the second and last take,, she left happy,, also Mom didn't like the adult lyrics from Amy Wienhouse and told AJ she was not allowed to record it so the night before the studio recording AJ rewrote the entire lyrics and since the band had already learned the music that was sent to them, she wrote the lyrics with out changing a single note of the music she finished making changes in the car ride to the studio

What surprises me the most about this video is how the musicians pretend to choose how the song has to sound, they don't listen to the girl. At one point she takes the baton of the interpretation and shows them how she wants the song to sound, she already had the composition of her complete version! An absolute genius!

"What a Difference a Day Makes" was recorded just 11 days after she won "Norske talenter" with "Summertime" - her first outdoor appearance on television. This sing-along show was broadcast by the same TV station (TV2 Norway) as the talent show. So this is still an 8yo 😉

Beyond the incredible vocal qualities, the biggest mystery lies precisely in the fact that whoever is captured by Angelina goes through emotions never felt that lead him to be happy to cry and to have the need to often hear your voice as if it were a very sweet medicine, honestly although I have loved and heard music for over 50 years, something like this has never happened to me, another wonderful reaction, good continuation....and don't miss "What a Difference a Day Make"🤩.....Massimo

What a difference a day makes is an appropriate title to your first listen of "Spell" (IPASOY). Most reactors do not go to rehearsals this soon. It really shows her involvement in the process. Paraphrasing the last line of your upcoming reaction video,..."And the difference is"... Angelina! One of the truest comments that angels make about Angelina is that their favorite Angelina song is the next one they hear. I love this practice session....how her cheeks puff out when she spots the mute, how she randomly toots a few notes, bur then immediately gets serious when the trumpet plays and she toots a final lower note showing how she wants it to be. At some point in your journey with Angelina, you will come across two interviews conducted by Alan Papier (both on his YT channel) - one with Egil Claussen, her Oslo guitarist from 7 to 12, and the other with Ivan Mendez, her guitarist in LA when she was 12. You brain will be further fried when you find out the cover songs she did with them were not preplanned or practiced before their recording ... usually one take and done. She tells the guitarists to follow her rhythm and tempo and she rearranges the songs on the fly, sometimes radically.

I think almost no one is able to describe how Angelina is conveying the emotions of the songs to us, the audience. I think she 'is living the lyrics from the songs deeply in herself' when she performs. When you watch Angelina during performances, you can clearly see that her behavior and her facial expression changes as soon as the music starts and that she flips out of it when the music stops: the little kid in her is back again. When she performed "What a difference a World makes", the video you are mentioning towards the end of this video, Angelina was still 8 years but it was a few months after she won Norway Got Talent. And what a progression she did make in that short amount of time....

Another great reaction. You are spot on about Angelina making people feel a certain way that is hard to understand. That is the magic of her. The love us fans have for her goes beyond her talent though. It’s also because of the wonderful human being she is. I’m not sure if anyone has mentioned the reason behind why she is barefoot when she performs. It is a heartwarming story and defines the type of person she is, even at a very young agá. I’ll let others tell it. Just a word of caution. You can’t always go by the posting date of the video to determine her age. Some are posted a while after they were recorded. However the date on What a Difference a Day Makes is correct. She is 8 in the performance.

Processing this is truly difficult, because Angelina is simply a phenomenon we have never encountered before; she makes me wonder whether Homer knew about legends of some long lost singing techniques when he described the Sirens that Ulysses encounter in the Odyssey, and whether Angelina rediscovered them. If I could be convinced that gods and goddesses walk the earth, then she is without doubt the goddess of vocal song.

What’s so good about Angelina (well, one of the things that’s so good) is that she blows you away at 8 or 9 years old, but she will continue to blow you away every year up to right now at 17. You’ll think you can’t be amazed again, but Angelina is not like anyone you’ve ever heard before. She was easily the best child singer I ever heard, but when I saw her acoustic cover of Adele’s “A Million Years Ago” at 12 years old, I knew she was the best singer I ever heard-period. No qualifications, no reservations. You will be stunned again and again and again.

This is probably my favorite thing about watching reactions to people who are hearing Angelina for the first time. I have never heard ANY reactors say about any other artists that they can physically feel things happening within their body listening to Angelina. One can assume she’s healing humanity on a molecular level, because yes, it’s been years for some of us and our brains are still breaking. Our outlook on life has changed because of her and her artistry. Once you get to know her as a person you will understand, not only is she undeniably talented but she is inherently a good kind empathic human being.

Another fantastic reaction! You are absolutely right - she evokes emotion like I've never heard before in any singer. Your next choice is perfect - What A Difference A Day Makes, originally sung by Dinah Washington. This is at the annual summer festival known as Allsang Por Grensen, 'Singalong at the Border', and it's a few months after NGT, so she's 8 years old. Do try to get the version with subtitles and the conversation at the beginning because you get an impression of what Angelina is like when she is not singing.

The paused video at the end is yet another mind-blowing performance. In 2014 she was 8 (born on Jan. 10, 2006). "What a Difference a Day Makes" is a song popularized by Dinah Washington. I grew up listening to Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong...even remember hearing Screamin' Jay Hawkins sing "I Put a Spell on You" when it first came out in 1956. Now THAT was "different" for that time - perhaps the first "shock rock" song?

I've been loving your first three reactions to her, and just knowing HOW many amazing performances by her you have yet to witness, makes my something tingle. My back maybe? Or my neck when the small hairs stand up to applaud. Anyhow, it's a great feeling. Now... as for her age. It is REALLY easy to find out, as she is born on the VERY beginning of 2006 (January 10th) which only leaves you with 9 days to get her age wrong. ANY performances in 2014 for instance means that she was 8 years old (except for the first 9 days when she was still 7.) You know, I am one of those who have been following her closely ever since she appeared on TV here in Norway, during Norway's Got Talent, and to have been able to experience first hand the INCREDIBLE journey of this musical force of nature and true prodigy, has been nothing short of life changing. And this is something you will hear from a LOT of her fans as well. I guess you've already heard it quite a few times. There is just something with her that can't be explained through traditional terms. It goes way beyond that. There is so much to Angelina that makes her exceptional. She's almost like a cabbage, with an incredible amount of layers. Cabbage ??? Oh well. I was lucky enough to see her in concert here in Norway last summer, on July 10th (she was exactly to the date 16,5 years old), and it is by FAR my best musical experience ever. 18 songs in 85 minutes, not even ONCE out of tune, rhythm or pitch. Pure vocal bliss. And her humility and incredible persona just adds another layer to it all, like a cabbage 😁 You, my friend, still have all this ahead of you. And I, my friend, am kinda envious of you 🤣😂 Anyhoot, I'm really looking forward to your reaction to "What A Difference A Day Makes" (when she was 8, as it was recorded in 2014) See? Debbie, This next one is going to touch you even more. This is what Angelina does in front of hundreds of people. There is also a Mashup of this with the original singer , Dinah Washington, If you don't know the song. It is Amazing. Just a correction, Dinah is not the original but did receive a Grammy for her interpretation.

Absolutely beautiful. It sounds so much like the way Dinah Washington sang it that it's not easy to tell them apart. This Mashup with Dinah will convince you of this kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH6baIWvhraKmbM Absolutely astounding. ♥👣 Do them together if you can. ♥👣

😊 I consider it a filter, between her musical heart and her vocals. This is a two way street, emotional availability and all that. But I don't think she bothers filtering her heart, making our job easier for sure. Her greatest accomplishment? Maintaining that to this day for the most part. This isn't a world and humanity conducive too that. She loves us enough to try anyway. She's a strong one. That's what I feel.

She is eight there with the flowers on her head deb, I always tell by her teeth arrangement her hair set up . She has that whole outdoor audience in the palm of her had at age eight. I dont think elvis could have done that at age eight ? She is the G.O.A.T. God Bless ya Deb.

She is 8 years old there deb. You got it correct this time. And you are correct she relaxes me in the morning and my day is better cuz I have a more calm point of view on situations. No matter what life throws my way as speed bumps she helps me get through them and over them. She doesnt know what she does to people and how she helps them .Shes amazing.

That shows true talent!!! Never underestimate the little people! Another amazing example would be Amira Willighagen, a self taught opera singer, now 19 years old. Dutch of course 🤣🤣 Love 💚💚💚💚💚

Here is a list I've been compiling of descriptions of Angelina and reactions or effects she has on people. What do you think? To be clear, all these are culled from reactors' videos and comments from those. Feel free to post these on other reaction videos and see what else we can find! Descriptions: Princess Queen Beautiful barefoot angel Legend Old soul Girl of 1000 voices (voice versatility) A phenom Musical Genius Queen of jazz Prodegy Angel Dust liquid Gold Velvet Queen Chameleon of Song Barefoot Princess Goddess of Sound She IS music A gift from God Reactions: Chills shivers Goose bumps Fan themselves Crying Drawn in Tunes everything else out Hypnotic Speechless Stuttering No words Mind blown Soothing, calming Addictive Angelic I'm obsessed Healing "What" Eyebrows raised Jaw drops "She's how old? " "Wow" "Was not expecting this!" In shock "I need a moment " Smoky voice I am out of speech Can't stop smiling "Insane!" Overwhelmed You get lost in her voice Her voice is my anti anxiety and stress medicine Her voice is dark chocolate, sweet and aromatic with rich cherries and swirling velvet smokiness. What can you say? How is it possible? I have come to the conclusion "Because it is Angelina"

What you should do next is when she sings acappella I'm a fool to want you from Billie Holiday. This is before she sang Summertime but it shows her awesome and incredible control even without music. It is unbelievable. ❤

"She bridges that emotional gap between the singer and the listener". Very well said. Vocal technique is one thing, and AJ has that in spades, but it's her ability to bring the emotion of a song that sets her apart.

I just wanted to say that there is no right or wrong way to experience your personal journey with Angelina Jordan Astar. Yes, that is her surname, which is her mother's. Ironic, eh? A-star. Anyway, whether you want to follow along in mostly chronological order, and there are "angels", such as Boris Palenovski, who are very helpful with lists that they have compiled, or whether your curiosity gets the better of you, and you wonder.."well, she sounded like that then, what in the world does she sound like NOW?", you honestly cannot go wrong! She has so many "mind breaking" performances all through her journey to today that it's like shooting fish in a barrel. You go along with your own journey through the Angelina rabbit hole and enjoy this trip however you would like! I am now finding myself looking forward to your reactions very very much! Have yourself a wonderful, blessed day!
