So many emotions. So much pain. A hard, painful and lonely life that ends quickly in an awful death. The fear we all have at walking across the last threshold into the unknown. True joy from having found a friend, probably the first she's had since her mother's death. And sorrow that the one thing she wanted most from the game, a chance to share that friendship in the outside world, can never be.

I believe the reason Sang Woo picks Ali over Gi Hun is like he said, most games rely on being intelligent or being physical. Ali was the strongest member of their group and Sang Woo was the smartest so it covers both bases there. I don’t think Sang Woo went in to the game thinking initially he was playing life or death against Ali. He did form a friendly relationship with him after all. If he knew it was a game involving his partner dying, he probably would have paired up with the Minyeo since he would have the advantage strength wise he would consider himself smarter, and he probably wouldn’t feel much remorse if she died since they have no bond whatsoever between them.
@Jack_80 Жыл бұрын
it's pretty hypocritical that everyone gets so mad at sang woo for cheating but not the main character for cheating the old man. i doubt anyone who watches and gets mad would just gracefully accept their death, knowing their mother would be screwed, possibly homeless, by their screwups. they'd do whatever it takes to win, just like gi-hun or whatever his name is.
@julianwelton Жыл бұрын
@@Jack_80 It's because the characters and circumstances are completely different. Gi-hun tried to help the group at every opportunity while Sang-woo threw people under the bus at every opportunity. Ali had a good chance of winning but was emotionally manipulated by someone he considered a good friend. The old man had no chance of winning, had a terminal illness, was mentally unsound, and only made it as far as he did in the first place because of Gi-hun. Sang-woo felt very little remorse. Gi-hun was devastated.
@thunderdragon3964 Жыл бұрын
@julianwelton True but even in the tug of war Gi-hun and the others had to kill the the other group to live, it was the same here. Just because we know Ali's story we feel bad for him and despise Sang-woo, whereas I didn't see one person who wasn't rooting for the main group in tug of war. Just because we don't know the other team we are ready to turn a blind eye to it.

We would play in the neighborhood with our friends until the sunset - our parents would call us home for dinner and we would have to say goodbye. I found that to be one of the hardest moments of the episode. You can see the shock in Gi-Hun's face as he discovers he's willing to exploit his friend's infirmity in order to survive. I can only disagree because Gi-hun showed genuine remorse and was very obviously guilty, where as Sang-woo kept bottling his emotions and made him more violent in the later episodes as he refused to show human emotions or acknowledge the guilt inside him for survival instincts. Gi-hun may have initially been deceiving the old man but he broke into guilt and had shown some humanity towards the end (if in the scenario the old man did die, at least he would’ve known that Gi-hun was still a good person and not mentally broken emough to the point of going by only survival instincts.

We know Sang-woo lied on honeycomb, but to Ali, Sang-woo is just a good person. As the boss did to Ali, foreign workers are often not treated equally or are negatively viewed and marginalized. But Sang-woo was willing to pay for Ali's food and the bus fare, even though he didn't know him well, treat him like a brother unlike his boss, give him bread, and return the corn in half. Perhaps such a trivial thing was the first favor Ali received in Korea, so he trusted him even more. Of course, it is difficult to say that Sang-woo is a good person. But the director doesn't want to say that Sang-woo is just a bad person. Can you guarantee that you will never be like Sang-woo in that situation? Not everyone is like Sang-woo, but he is definitely one of us. If only Sang-woo dies, will the problem be solved? Perhaps a second Sang-woo will appear constantly and Ali will be killed by another Sang-woo. Rather than Sang-woo, the real problem is the environment created that way, and the social system the director wants to talk about. In a cruel system where we have to live by stepping on someone, we can be Gi-hun, Sang-woo, Ji-young, or Ali. If Sang-woo didn't have to kill Ali, would he have killed Ali? Although Sang-woo is now a murderer, before, he was merely a debtor. he may be one of those people who conform to the system, but he didn't create the system. They are all victims under that system. The game says it's fair and equal, but we know that's not true. What we really need to be angry about is the inhuman system, not the individual

The thumb thing in the pinky promise is to "seal" the deal. In Korean culture seals have a huge significance and to this day they are still used in place of an actual signature on many occasions.

I've seen many reactions to this now and I've seen a few reactors straight up SOB. This episode is so gut wrenching

8:25 Maybe someone said to you, but I think that the thumb means stamp "this promise is real" or "i swear i didn't tell you lie" like a signature...

Magic Magy was bawling her eyes out as soon as Ali was shot. She didn't say anything else about this episode other than "This stupid game" ended her reaction and didn't continue Squd Game for a week. Suzy Lu and I think her BF were crying as well. I know when I watched this episode the first time I was crying from the moment they said teams of two (i figured it would mean the teams would play against each other like you dd but I meant it) This episode is just pure art and actually the best ep of Squid Game. In my opinion at least. They made us cry. They touched us across the cultural barrier and made us care deeply for these characters in a short show. I think this episode is pure genius. And yes it made me cry again even though I have seen it in Netflix and as reaction vids like 8 times now. I will never not cry at Ssang-woo's betrayal and Ji-Yeong's sacrifice. I hate how this episode makes me feel... And I love it because it manages to do so. If and when Squid Game will win prizes? THIS here is why.

The gganbu thing pretty much died out by the 1980s tbh. Squid Game kinda revived the term. Up until this show, at least for the past ten years, the most famous gganbu was the Gganbu Chicken fried chicken chain lol.

I like how last episode you were more analytical and in this one you were more emotional. It makes you more human, whereas I usually think you're a hologram or an animatronic. Also Sang-woo anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering....Suffering leads to.....???
