I read all of the Black Autumn series from which this movie is based. Those books are absolutely awesome and started me on my prepping journey. They contained so much basic information and the stories were amazing. I can't wait to see this movie.

I've made phone calls in a power outage and the tesla has a battery, holds a charge lol. It wasn't an emp grenade or her ear buds would've stopped working too. The males car was in traffic running too. It was a chemical bomb not an emp simple answer.

I was disappointed in the movie and very disappointed in what I've seen of the series. The lead actor in the movie isn't carried over into the series and the series seems to focus more on the little girl with premonitions and invaders than what the premise of the movie was about. But for the movie, being a homesteader myself, I found major inconsistencies with the life and functions. I know, and I was told, that this was NOT a documentary on homesteading, but still, given the title, I was expecting something more substantiable and factual.

I guess realism is not something Angel Studios is strong on. In the 1st minute we have people speaking a non English language and exclaiming they where "15 nautical away" while on a boat clearly in an ocean. People talking about distance on a boat while reading a chart tend to not say nautical miles since it i assumed. Also the United States, Liberia, and Myanmar are the only three countries that use the imperial system as their official system of measurement. The likely hood of these 2 brothers being from either of those 3 countries is slim at best. Next at about 3:50 there's a kid playing a video game while where headphone and the sister is bothered by the sound. As a gamer who uses headphones at times I find it odd that she could hear the sound of the game since when you use headphones it mutes the speakers. Shortly after the girl complaining about the video game interrupting her phone call a loud noise is heard, the ground shook, some electrical things started to fail, the sky was full of a rust colored haze outside, and then the phone starts to fail slowly ... very slowly. A cloud rises in the distance that resembles a mushroom kind of. The family is told by the man on the phone to drive someplace away from the city and not breath the air so natural she grabs 2 blankets with about the same air filtering capability of lace. If only she had some spare N-95 masks left over from COVID since the disease is still around and doing what very infectious diseases do and mutates like crazy. Since the the device in the boat had containers with the universal symbol for radioactive on them I was assuming a dirty device, but the clouds they form wouldn't look like a mushroom. A big real device wouldn't look like that either and since it was on a boat out at sea and it must have been huge to make the ground shake like that I'm certain there would have been a massive wave. It's almost like they tried to combine both into 1 device and I doubt that would work or do the things this did. I know what you're thinking, Disaster movies tend to stretch reality a lot and you're correct. The problem is I know that Angel studio is right wing propaganda tool paid for by some very rich people who want nothing more than pushing their extremist views cause we the people to hate and blame each other for the problems caused by not taxing the rich. They typically don't care about your religion except as a means for their ends which are anything but, Christ like. I guess it is true that if you believe in sky fairies you will believe anything. Loved the product placing, I'm certain Vice President elect Elonia would approve. Oh wait that immigrant wasn't elected to ANYTHING! Eat the Oligarchy!

Everything about this made no sense to me from the beginning. The kid's looking on the deck for the huge bomb thing that occupies a fair part of the hold? The blast wave doesn't break the father's plate glass windows? There are multiple, related, explosions in the valley? If it didn't have Neal McDonough in it, I'd be completely skeptical.

Initial high energy radiation and thermal would go further, but not that far. What you saw outside the windows of his office was the atmospheric disruption from the blast. It was already a smoggy day. The book explains it better

In the book it explains the nuke doesn’t actually do much damage because the coast guard caught it in time and far enough out, but the panic that sets in immediately after effectively crashes society because it was the second nuke (the first detonating in the Middle East at a critical Saudi Arabian oil field). Critical services in the U.S. start failing even before the nuke goes off near L.A. because of societal instability.

An ElectroMagnetic Pulse device does not cause the ground to shake. It might cause fires and some explosions as infrastructure fails due to controls being fried by a voltage spike. The thing the 1 kid looked for was mot likely a switch and it was not kept plugged into the device so that an accidental bump didn't set it off. At least something was a little believable. As apposed to Filipinos using the terms nautical and miles. Only 3 countries in the world use miles and no one on a small boat like that would say nautical miles or kilometers. Reality is not Angel Studios goal, promoting hate and unrest is. You see the Oligarchs funding this garbage do not care about religion except as a tool to keep the masses at each other's throats. Eat the Oligarchy!

A lot of the "prepper" fiction genre has very similar plots, storylines, situations, and events. The genre has really grown in popularity and volume of books in the last few years or decade, especially since the book One Second After by William Forstchen came out. There's only so much you can do within the genre, and much of the plots and storylines have become very well worn out tropes and stereotypes, with the same or very similar types of characters doing the very same things.

This is already off to an incredibly unrealistic start. Why did they have to use the cheesy yellow barrels with the nuclear ☢️ sign on them like this is an 80’s action film? If they were around nuclear material like that, in that quantity, and zero production. They would have died from radiation exposure way before they got across the ocean. Building a nuclear device that crudely constructed would certainly kill anyone who worked on it, and whoever tried to transport it. A dirty bomb could be crudely assembled, but the move is portraying the bomb to be a hydrogen or adam bomb. Detonating the bomb that far off the coast and in front of a mountains. Would have seriously diminished the destructive impact of the bomb. The EMP blast would have knocked out any electronics for miles. People 3-4 miles from the blast would be severely burned. People outside the 3-4 mile radius are dying from radiation exposure. Depending on wind conditions people 100’s of miles away are all going to have serious health issues from exposure to radioactive fallout. It’s like nobody did any type of research for the film. Honestly, not surprised.
