Here's one for you, US comment section. This is Mike. He's been working on his family's farm his whole life, working his ass off in the fields. On weekends he was hunting, fishing and preparing for SHTF. This is Mick. He went through medschool and he is now a young surgeon with god knows how much debt, working his ass off at the hospital, living in a loaner appartment, and on weekends he's volunteering in various shelters. He has not been preparing for SHTF, in fact, he actually OWNS NOTHING, no land, no guns or ammo, not even a car. But now SHTF and Mick is knocking on Mike's door for shelter. Judging by this comment section, Mike is telling Mick to piss off because it's his own fault for not being ready. A week later Mike steps on a nail / breaks his leg / is shot / etc. and another week later he dies because he didn't get medical attention. GG WP. Oh and before you say "well of course Mike needs to let Mick in, Mick's a good asset, Mick's worth it". Ok and what about the other 50 people with Mick? The nurses, the doctors, the mechanics, the teachers, the scientists, the artists, the soccer moms, the retail workers, the waiters, the garbage truck drivers, the police officers, the firemen, the plumbers, the electricians? How you gonna vet them? who's worth it and who's not?

a) This scenario could work as late as the 1950s. However, current-day -- asymmetrical -- terrs have access to the fUSA electric grid and water treatment plants. . b) San Angeles/Los Diego has zero strategic value. Let us suppose a back-pack nuke flattens a square mile of the inner-city slums. . Zero is accomplished. The docks still transfer cargo. So, let us suppose terrs nuke the docks. Zero is accomplished. Transportation still moves goods on the freeways. . Nuke the freeways! Transporters will run convoys using a different route. . c) Nuke Worshington District Of Criminals! Zero accomplished. For each vaporized bureaucrat, a hundred others are waiting to take that job. . d) Nuke Peking in 1947? That could solve everything... ...if only American foreign-aid to the chinese government wasn't just another skim-scam. . d) The conflict in the Ukraine shows the value of cheap drones by the thousands. . Their novel BLACK AUTUMN discusses the yuge compound with a couple hundred farmers and security. . I think those concentrations of goods, equipment, and personnel makes a tempting target. For brigands, probably. For the government agents, definitely.
