Angle of Elevation and Angle of Depression What They Are and Exam Question | IGCSE & IB

Both the angle of elevation and the angle of depression are measured between the line of sight and the horizontal:
- When looking upwards, the angle of elevation is the angle between the line of sight and the horizontal.
- When looking downwards, the angle of depression is the angle between the line of sight and the horizontal.
In this video we define both of these angles and learn that they are equal. We then work through a typical exam question involving right angle trigonometry and an angle of elevation.

A baloonist at an altitude of 226m observes the angle of depression of one point on the ground as 2 deg, and of another point as 3 deg.the horizontal angle between the lines of sight to the two points is 80 deg.what is the distance between the two points? I can't understand the horizontal angle Could you please help with this problem I can't figure out where is the 80 degree angles and how they are 80 on both sides while the angles 2 and 3 are of course not equals but very close
