It's a really long way to go. I think, the biggest goal is to be aware of weather, especially in winter?! Also to find the best places to stop-over for relaxing and fill up gas.

Change of weather would be my concern and if that does happen, what is my alternate airport? Can’t wait for the next video!!! There is a book called Artic Bush Pilot by Bud Helmericks, it’s about a 17 year old kid picking up a brand new 1956 Cessna 170B in Wichita and flys it back to Anchorage, all VFR, by himself in 1956, no GPS, no modern equipment, it’s a simple great read.

Weather. Forecast versus actual. Very often different. Flying over mountains doesn't afford a great number of options if faced with a quick weather pattern change.

Unpredictable weather. Areas near any bodies of water that can make weather a little iffy. Loving the series and ready to see some flying.

Love the channel. As an aspiring pilot for the past year, I found your "final thoughts" section very inspiring to me. There is no reason why I'm pursuing this journey as a pilot, other than challenging myself with something new and being able to say I did it! I'm 4-6 weeks from my checkride and you made my short and long x country seem so easy now! Perspective is such a crazy thing and I thank you for that! One of my favorite aviation channels.

I did your private pilot ground school in the fall of 2019, passed my written test and started flying in January of 2020. After my first solo X country the world was shutdown by the C word! My real job is working for an Internet Service Provider so as you can imagine busy times were ahead as the Internet is kind of a big deal during Covid!! Work coupled with 3 kids learning at home and a special issuance medical debacle made for an interesting last 2 years! I also used your Checkride ACE and am proud and happy to say that last Sunday I passed my checkride!! Your podcasts got me started and kept me motivated through the entire process, so keep them coming! The FAA delays with my medical grounded me for 6 months but I followed your advice to advocate for my own health and was finally able to get a clean bill of health and a normal medical certificate! As soon as I get an airplane I am going to start your instrument ground school and can’t wait for that challenge! Thanks for all your knowledge and motivation!! Throttle on!

I think it was simply awesome just to see Angle of Attack still going strong during the height of all of the craziness. Many businesses didn't make it through to the other side of it and it's heartbreaking to see places that's been around for years suddenly having to go out of business. Keep doing what you're doing Chris and it'll be alright. Your passion for helping others really shows and in my opinion it's a great business model.

I really appreciate you including the portions of personal risks involved and what this means to you. While this is a very exciting journey, the risks are real and loved ones counting on you to make it home safe. Aviation is a wonderful gift that we should never take for granted. I'm about to take my first long cross country from CA to Texas next week with my family and feeling a lot of the same emotions.

@@angleofattack I don’t understand that thinking. Flying is inherently dangerous. Maybe it means more when you have a young family. I know I started feeling those nerves after my first was born. Still get those nerves before every flight and it goes away when I get in the cockpit. I like to think it’s a good thing that keeps me alert and prepared for worst case scenarios. Made it to Texas today :)

Yes, a lot of paperwork prep. I flew from Nevada through Canada to Anchorage with stops at Homer, Talkeetna and Fairbanks and return. EAPIS and Customs was straight forward if prepared. Canadian FSS was great? T-41B, same as a 172, just more power. Looking forward you videos on the trip. I did my trip in July/August.

I'm following this closely. We moved to Washington state in 2015 from Fairbanks and we still have a place up there. I want to have the freedom to fly up in our airplane eventually. Who knows, if all goes well I may try to work on my IFR with you. I sure could think of worse places than the peninsula for flying, fishing, and sight seeing!

Chris, nice video you put together here and what is looking like a great and epic series. As far as flight planning goes, weather is always what makes me most nervous. It is the most uncontrollable factor in all of this, in my option. Perhaps some of the things weather cause is a bit more personal to me but it has always been what I worry about most. Have had to cancel several trips do to it and even turned around and had to come home. It seems no matter how much you plan for it and research the available resources it can still throw a monkey wrench in the trip. A pilot always has to be ready to cancel a trip, divert, wait it out, or turn back when it comes to weather. Nothing is that important. Snow a ton here now in Northern MI so IFR training will be on hold a few days. Hope it doesn’t start and not stop for 4 months. Have a great weekend.

@@angleofattack probably just the magnitude of this trip. I’m going to be getting my license soon and I just haven’t really thought about XC flights on this scale. It’s really gotten me to think outside the box a bit more and think bigger. A simple 172 is capable of a lot more than I would normally think of with proper experience, training, and preparation.

It has the same sized tires all the way around. So it has a large nosewheel which causes that to happen.
