Georgeous design. I love when the panel looks "clean". I'll only add a CO2 detector (gauge one, not those stickers) and maybe an autopilot and autopilot control
@christhearrowpilot38952 жыл бұрын
The 275’s are the greatest… and they have their own VFR gps which if you didn’t need IR would be quite adequate.. love the panel, I would have gone for a bigger NAV unit given how much space you have. But the iPad makes up for that and is an excellent alternative.

I went through the same process last year with my '69 Cherokee 140B. As I was following the same philosophy like you the result is close albeit not the same. I went with dual GI 275, GNC355, GNC255, GMA345, EDM700 and kept the existing GTX328 and the traditional engine instruments. The result is absolutely stunning. It pushes our old birds right into the age of modern avionics and makes flying IFR great fun! Enjoy your new panel! 😊🛩

love the old school look to modern instruments. Big flat panels distract from why flying is fun... looking outside. Awesome none the less thanks for sharing

Chris, Great job on the video. The panel looks great. I know I cheated and sat behind it in October so I already was ahead of the reveal. It is great to see how it all went together. I had to put in one of those 406 ELTS a month back as the old style one was interrupting my 430GPS I put in. For some reason when I would switch from comm1 to comm2 on the audio panel and back again the old ELT would bounce the radio signal all over and break the GPS signal. Of course the radio switching is always done on an approach where you are still talking to Center and making local calls so at the worst time. I am in IFR training so I had a CFII looking out the window in VFR conditions as I was under the hood so no major issue as it would have been on a true IFR approach. Have a great weekend.

Interesting the choice on the GNX375 and not something with a larger display like the GTN650 or 750. I do realize the GTN650/750s are getting dated, older. I was recently introduced to the GNX375 in a Citabria. I have flown behind a GTN750 and loved it. I need to dig into the GNX375 some more. I realized the GI275 also has a moving map, but I can see that being "decluttered" under IFR to concentrate on the HSI portion of the display under instrument work.
@angleofattack2 жыл бұрын
Huge huge cost difference.
@jessicavoruda2 жыл бұрын
Plus, we wouldn’t have been able to fit GTN 650s in the panel without sacrificing the area where the ipad now resides. Even with the smaller screen, the 2” navigator was the best choice for this install given the GPS interface to everything else with the GI 275s and ForeFlight on the iPad Pro. The original GTNs have been replaced with the brand new GTN Xi series, though again it came down to fit. Beyond the significant price increase to go GTN.
@1dullgeek2 жыл бұрын
I think I'm most impressed with the center stack. You've managed to combine the following into 3 instruments: 1) Audio panel 2) Com radio 3) GPS 4) Transponder 5) Nav/Com radio But that may be just because I don't know the capabilities of the GI275s yet. I hope that you will at some point give a "ballpark" idea of how much this is costing you. As an airplane owner, I'm curious about the cost. I can add up the price of all the equipment, but I can't easily estimate the labor required to do this. Is there some way you can give your viewers an idea of that without disclosing too much private information?
@jessicavoruda2 жыл бұрын
You're completely right. It's an impressive configuration. The combination of the PAR 200B audio panel with remote COM2, a GNX 375 with IFR WAAS GPS and a built-in ADS-B in/out transponder, along with the GNC 255A VHF Nav/com.. it covers all the bases. The GI 275s use the GNX 375 as their primary GPS position and navigation source, but each GI 275 is also a VFR GPS navigator by themselves, with one glare shield antenna that they share between each other. Each running on battery backup power when needed. Feel free to reach out to me if you're looking for a ballpark price. Each aircraft and situation is different, so I'm not sure Chris is going to go there for that reason. Cheers!

@mytech67792 жыл бұрын
I may have gone with a GTN650 with comm&Nav receivers rather than 375 GPS Nav and 255 combo. It has the screen shape for a lot more simultaneous nav info,(and fat fingers) and the waypoint database contains all the local frequencies for quick reference, a single tap on the freq and it is sent to the tuner standby [comm or nav], super nice during a busy IFR approach even if you know the number. The 650 has the same dual freq monitoring as the 255. I may be bias due to the amount of IMC and tight airspace in my area. I see the 375 mainly as a size benefit for simple retrofits(drop in style) or locations like the SW or the flatlands, or maybe where you already have a good radio stack. While the 750 seems like an excess luxury, not much that it can do or display that the 650 cannot. (edit: And I see in another post that you did setup it up for future AP...) I would leave a space on the panel for autopilot even if you don't install one now, especially if you plan on training pilots for commercial certs an AP is needed to qualify as a technically advanced aircraft for that part of the training, otherwise your out finding a TAA or complex aircraft to rent.(The choice to rent also depends on what is available in your area and number of students.)
@jessicavoruda2 жыл бұрын
As you indicated that you may have seen already, we have a cutout and custom filler plate in the panel above the breakers for the eventual addition of a select autopilot. It’s just a matter of time. The aircraft is also already prepped and wired for the addition of the servos when the time comes. The decision not to go GTN was driven mainly by the size restriction of the existing radio stack cutout, and the usable height limitations therein. At most we could maybe squeeze a little height out of the top with no mounting rails, but there was no room to go down given the yoke T column. Chris was also adamant about keeping the original switch location above the radios.
@angleofattack2 жыл бұрын
Ha, we're speaking the same language. Jessica explains the GPS choice well, so check that out. Otherwise, the autopilot was already cut into the panel, just awaiting the time when it's approved by Garmin to install. They have to go through a whole testing and approval process, and our model hasn't gone through that yet. So, it's ready... so we can do TAA and run the gamut on ALL training.

so help me undertand. You purchased the plane from Daniel and not only was he kind enough to fly clear to Osh Kosh but also help tear it apart? He has to be getting paid or he's one heck of a nice guy? I sure enjoy your videos especially this journey. Can't wait to see the new panel!!

He’s a dear friend, loves to fly, and needed the time.

Question: Why not preplan for a future GFC500 autopilot installation while you had the opportunity during design?

Curious why you didn't go with a G3X to replace the whole 6 pack, and put the EIS on there too? Was it cost? Nice looking panel nonetheless.

For this particular plane, it just doesn't really fit. We could have potentially put one in on the left, but it wouldn't be aligned in front of the pilot. It'd be offset to the left because of the structure. Also, again, it doesn't really fit the character of the airplane. Perhaps in the future if I get a Bonanza or something, that's what I'll do.
