I SERIOUSLY appreciate that you didn't fall victim to the KZbin "every video is a music video" disease! 99% of aviation content on this platform goes to obnoxious, canned music the moment the engine starts and then they try to narrate over the music which is already louder and more annoying than the engine to start with. THANK YOU FOR PRODUCING QUALITY WATCHABLE CONTENT!

Aviation is an amazing thing on so many levels. The views, the journey, the adventure, the people looking forward to seeing it all. Enjoying the whole series so far. Like seeing other pilots flight planning process as I plan a VFR XC from MA to KS and back at the end of the year.

Nothing like those old 'diode' switching radios. A huge step above the crystal radios but they are a bit out of date compared to the new ones. You where not too far from me - live just over the WI / IL boarder. Take care - be safe.

Just swapped out my avionics earlier this year. I had an old KX-170B as well. It was a pretty good old radio but the localizer wasn’t that accurate so I replaced it with a KX-155 and upgraded to a 430W. A big improvement!

Amazing that those units are fairly old now, but still so capable! Great upgrade!

Chris, Great job. Nothing like a little headache when a guy is trying to head out somewhere. Looks like you guys did a great job dealing with it and the help that came out was great to see. Aviation is usually a great community of people willing to help out. This is going looking to be a great series. Now you and Josh both have one going so my free time will be occupied. 😂😂. Thank you for all the effort you put into getting these videos out to get me through the Upper Michigan winter. Looks like Homer is getting a wicked cold snap though as well since I left. 🥶🥶

A 172 with 182 rear quarter windows. Looks way better. I think they only made them for like one model. My take is that they went to the more ordinary looking windows to save money or to save weight or easier to manufacture. Not for looks.

Did you guys consider the Yakutat, Juneau, Ketchikan, Canada, Washington route? Seems like for a winter flight it would be nice to go south as soon as possible and take advantage of the increasing daylight. Why that route over others?

Yes. We cover that in the flight planning video. The weather can be really awful down that way and the emergency landing options aren’t as great.

3000 in a small single engine plane is about 6+ hours. I would have to stop drinking all fluids and stop all caffeine 10 hours prior to take off otherwise carry I would need a piss jug.
