Chris, over the course of many years of bass fishing and fishing in general that ended with age and bad health, I was fortunate to have accumulated many of baits considered old school. The baits I fished from the 50's unto the turn of the century, were made of different material than today's models and seem to have much more craftsmanship devoted to their production. Some of the baits I got and fished were already discontinued models that I had stumbled upon at thrift shops then. The kind of here today-gone tomorrow stores that purchased the inventory of department stores going out of business, or bait shop buy-outs and it was from these areas that I scored some great legendary baits at bargain basement prices. At the time of my purchase the thought of collecting baits was unheard of. I was just interested in catching fish then, no one I knew in the 70's, collected fishing lures. This was the last good time period I had fishing. I was a cop by profession and worked many part-time security jobs that took up most, if not all, of any fishing time. I had a wife and child to support and a cop's wages was not enough to make ends meet. So for years, I worked part-times on most of my days off, but did get to go fishing every now and then. Some of the lures I found and purchased, were fished heavily by myself and father-in-law who, was a strict worm fisherman, unless I started catching bass on some of the elderly baits in my box, via thrift shop purchase. Chris, I was able to hang on and add baits to my suitcase size fishing tackle box, and then had to purchase two more suitcases to handle the growing number of collectible baits. The collecting bug bit me as the numbers grew. Found out there were other old fishermen that collected lures like myself. The baits list will be short, but keep in mind these fish getters caught fish. Thanks so much for these videos on old school tackle. Heddon: Game Fisher, Zaragossa, Wood Vamp, River Runt, Lucky 13 with glass eyes, Meadow Mouse Lazy Ike, Top Ike, Chug Ike Helin Flatfish several size models, Creek Chub Wiggle Fish, South Bend Bass Oreno, Tease Oreno, Creek Chub Pikie Minnow, Arbogast Jitterbug, Hula Popper, Arbogaster, Bombers, Heddon Dying Flutter or Dying Quiver, and Big O. Chris, so sorry for the length. But these were baits off the top of my head, purchased at Thrift Stores. Thank you so much for allowing an old fisherman to mentioned classic lures of yesterday. Nice score! Those jointed Rapala copycat lures and the one that you showed the lip of are Sportfisher brand made by Mister Twister and sold only at Kmart stores. All of those cranks made by Mister Twister appear to be the Sportfisher brand. I still have several myself. I have fond memories of going there to check out all of that stuff. I could get an entire pack of lures for the same price as one or two of the name brand. My funds limited early teen self was quite happy about that. I think the Hula Popper type lures and some of the second row of crankbaits from the first side are also Sportfisher lures. That baby bass paint pattern looks exactly like one I had. Well, I still have that lure but I repainted it because the original finish became damaged. I wish now that I would have tried to duplicate the pattern instead of changing it. I’d like to find another original with that pattern. I’m diggin’ those Color-C-Lector CC Shad and Tiny Torpedos too. Thanks for sharing.

When my father was alive, there was one unspoken rule... and it was "Stay the heck out of my tackle boxes you have your own". Well, he passed away in March of 2020.... After inheriting his tackle boxes, I got to go through it... I've never seen so much crap stuffed into 3 tackle boxes in my life... some of it was grampas stuff to boot... There was so much crap, I made a sweet a sweet starter tackle box for my 10 year old nephew. It took a full day to go through the rest and disperse it into 3 other tackboxes so that all the hooks from the baits weren't completely entangled with one another. There was literally one compartment with 20 rooster tails all tangled together in a single glob.... Anyhow, there was thousands of dollars in stuff and some ancient spinner baits, lures, and what have you...

The lures you showed at 19:25 with the red eyes were Normans. I might have a couple of those that are NOS still in the package in my storage tubs. Killer lures. I know all the Bandit lures I have ever had had black painted pupils in the middle of either yellow or white eyes & the eyes were slightly further apart than the Norman eyes. Norman seemed to have a thing for red eyes on a lot of his stuff. I could be off on that though. I'm still learning what's what out there. Never bothered to pay attention to who made what as a kid back in the day. I just fished them until I lost them. Now that I'm older, I wish I had payed more attention. LOL Also, those old lawn chairs earlier in the video were awesome chairs from back in the day, the ones with the webbed strips were nice & cool to sit in since they breathed air really well.

Good haul. Those are older Poe's 300s. You're right; Norman's. The close-eyed ones are either Bandit or Luhr Jensen. You may have some Bomber Fat As. It's hard to tell on video. CC Shads SUCKED. They were too hard to cast on anything less than 6lb spinning gear. I had a Procaster rod similar to that but mine had turquoise color letters. It had the same cross-wrapped graphite; very strong rod. I left it leaned in the garage. It set with that slight bend in it. Doh!

The trigger bail reel at about 10:40 is an RG1655. They were marketed in the UK (where I live) as the Harrier Auto Match and came with an extra shallow "match" spool that holds about 100 yards of 2lb line. Fun fact is that it uses exactly the same size spools as the slightly later and more popular 1657DM finger dab reel (which was a UK exclusive afaik), making fleamarket RG1655s with the match spool a cost effective way of getting spare spools for the 1657DM that would otherwise cost about £40 a pop. The RG's a great reel in its own right - smooth gears and a super smooth drag and that nice bulletproof diecast material.

I don't know if you fish those lures or just buy them to keep. You can tell by the number of CHARTREUSE/BLACK BACK Rat-L-Traps that they believed in that lure, as I do. IF YOU FISH THEM, here's a hint just for that lure: put a couple of them IN THE SUNSHINE TO FADE. In a window, dash of a car- doesn't matter-let them fade until the BBs show though. The lighter, the better. When the BBs look like BREAM GUTS when held up to the light, THEY'RE READY. This was an old Alabama (and obviously Texas) trick to imitate a small bream. I like the ¾oz MagTrap for this, but the ½oz will do, too. When fishing gets tough in the summer-into late fall- FISH THEM. When you can't buy a bite, try it. Trust me. It is an absolute uncanny trick. Once faded, when you hold them to the light, you'll see why. You're welcome.
