Ahhh, cobia in Pensacola 111 My home-town. Years ago. I was trolling along the drop off to the east of the mouth of Pensacola Bay and got my pb cobia: a 52 pounder. They sometimes call them "ling". It took 45 minutes to get it to the gaff. That thing was a BRAWLER. !!! Coincidently, I was fishing in the same spot a week or so later and got a 46 pounder. Sweet spot. Here's a hint for landing big fish on the beach: when you reel him in close and the angle of the line in the water starts getting bigger, start walking backwards until the fish can't swim well. The. Start walking slowly back toward the fish while slowly reeling in line. The fish will be trying to swim but all it will be doing is swimming IN, getting closer to the skillet !!! I probably didn't explain this technique very well, but maybe you can figure it out. The object is to keep your rod tip and the line that is in the water down ... under water if you can. Otherwise keep the rod tip as close to the surface as possible. Look out for sting rays. Don't step on one. You'll be hating life if it hits you with that stinger. I usually found flounder in that area, too. That red was a NICE FISH.

Damn, for once I wish I could be one of the first commenters on your video because really Brant, I have no idea what to use as far as tackle is considered for shore fishing and pier fishing. For pretty much all of my 54 years of life, I've been fishing fresh water, and usually just stocked fish up north. I did a lot of bass fishing like everyone else, but that's about all I've ever really gotten, and I know what to use for that. I've got some big rods that I bought probably a few years ago at Walmart that I thought would probably be something for deep sea fishing because they were just really big and heavy duty, not light at all though. I'm just wondering what's something that is basic, that won't cost me an arm and a leg? And what kind of poundage and style of Iine should I use, stuff like that? On top of that, how much weight should I use for the beach as opposed to a pier, bank, or boat, even kayak? I'm probably not going to be fishing with anybody at first, and I'm not going to take three or four rods with me and set them up at the beach. just give me something basic that you know of if you can or even someone else who reads these comments maybe they could tell me something I'm talking like I don't want to spend over $100 for rod and a real if possible for the beach. I think maybe I could get away with using one of my freshwater rods on a kayak, or on a pier. I just have to figure out what kind of line to use for them I guess. Thank you for all of the videos you put out, I'm still trying to get caught up. oh by the way not that it makes a difference, but I'm a mister not a miss or Mrs. Don't let my name fool you please, LOL!

I am by no means an expert but local surf fishing area tackle shops will have ok rod reel combos for around 50 to 100 not including tackle but most times local tackle shops can tell ya whats biting and what is used to get em

I don't think they do it anymore? but it was a great thing for the kids and the whole community.

I've hooked a few cobia from the beach and in Sarasota Bay on a seawall. Decades of fishin' the area and I only landed one cobia from land. They're one of my favorites to catch and eat, I caught them on my buddy's boats. I'd love to see you catch more cobia, especially from the beach. Do you and CMR ever hunt for tripletail? I've never seen him trying to find them.

@comfortablynumb93422 жыл бұрын
@@jurrassicjackgamingandstuf5691 I hooked one on Sunset Point pier back when the water was deeper at the end. And I caught one from the seawall by the twin bridges between Bird Key and Lido, the corner by the yacht club. I caught some nice big mangrove snapper there too. I've been gone since 09 so maybe things have changed.
