man, I am 35 played most of my youth, and stop after a little college club hockey. at 5,6 I had to stand out and play super aggressive which leaving me open to the pass. But I had fast feet which I got from playing other sports, so the fast feet help with the skating and getting to those triangles. love the break downs too..

Super helpful video!!! It’s so true about players of higher caliber moving the puck right before they shoot. What’s the best thing to do as a goalie against those shots? Also love the Uncle Eddie shirt!!
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA4 жыл бұрын
You have to note the personnel, and how they are setting up body language as there are tells that give away their planned adjustment. Like Hull would have both hands together with stick extended in a position he couldn’t shoot from. This was his “tell” that a drag snapper was coming.. And yes Uncle Eddie!

When the puck is below the goal line triangle can pop out of nowhere. I like to imagine a triangle when the puck is passed into the slot/bottom of the circle etc. and imagine an always moving triangle. Helps a lot 👍
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA4 жыл бұрын
Shaun NH 2A Once a goalie can conceptualize the shooting triangle then their game changes... We had the angle ropes out for box control when I was 9 years old (1976) at Howie Meeker’s hockey school.. It funny how today, people seemed amazed at the new “box control” invention and it has been here for at least 45 years....

If your facing a guy like Austin Mathews with his curl and drag shot, how would you play his angles? Always to the puck and adjust at the release (you might be late to adjust), or cheat a little bit to his feet but not all the way (making you susceptible to the drag away from the feet)? Or is there another way to play it?
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA4 жыл бұрын
Stevie Brown you have to factor in his time and space and how (who) is defensively on him... then.... if he is locked into a shooting situation make sure your butt isn’t in blue crease. Step 1 don’t be deep in crease if he has no lateral or late developing threats behind him. Step 2 be very aware if his hands are telegraphing a curl/ drag shot. Step 3 you can bait him to go to a certain area by subtly hesitating in off angle very slightly but this above the pay grade of most amateurs. Step 4 a slight later shift will cover his adjustment if you aren’t deep
@steviebrown32474 жыл бұрын

As the puck goes to out to the side would the need to completely “square up” change?
@FutureProGoaltendingUSA4 жыл бұрын
That is an individual decision but if a guy shoots from the wall at the hash marks and your chest isn’t square, it is highly likely you will throw a weak side rebound in the kill zone. squareness on poor angle shot fills the box AND prevents a back board for greasy dangerous rebounds

I'm a para ice hockey goalie. You want to talk fat Tony. I'm effectively 260 lbs and 3 feet sitting in my sled. My coaches are stand up players and I train with stand up players. Covering the angles is a whole new bag of tricks sitting on your ass. I'd love to hear thoughts on potentially upping a game based on total arm usage. I've never had a goalie coach and have more or less been muddling through the last 4 years with limited utube watching and channels like yours. Thoughts?
