Very nice little prayer book. I've two versions, and I personally like the older a bit better, tacking more closely to the 1928 American Episcopal book. Good review, as always.

It is a Book of Devotions, not a Missal - correct! As someone that uses the section on the Holy Eucharist every weekend, I find it quite easy to navigate. It has prayers for before, during, and after the Eucharist and liturgy that help one pray throughout the liturgy when appropriate.

Thanks for the insight! If you are Anglican, how would you describe your parish, Anglo Catholic? 1928 or 1979 BCP?

@@ConvincedCatholicism Great question! I'm an Anglican in Canada, the parish I ended up at is definitely a via media one but I myself fall into Anglo-Orthodox/Catholic practice and belief at home. Our priest is a former Irish Catholic and has a deep appreciation and love for the Catholic tradition so tries to sprinkle in aspects of it here and there, our church has some icons, wear vestments, have a high altar, etc, but has plenty of low church vibes as well. We use the Anglican Church of Canada's second liturgical book, the 'Book of Alternative Services' rather than the Book of Common Prayer, which if we did use - it'd be the Canadian '62 edition. The ACC's parishes for a long time have used the Book of Alternative Services in place of the BCP, but our high church parishes and Anglo-Catholic parishes tend to use the 1962 ACC BCP.

Also, the pre Forward edition is hardback, easier to place holy cards in, like the Icon of Our Lady of Walsingham that I have in the back

This version is pretty good but I would argue the better one is the 1967 edition as it's more in line with the Book of Common Prayer and is more "traditional Anglo Catholic". That version is out there. I got mine via APA publications. Good review overall Might I recommend another Anglo Catholic devotional I love to use. The Practice of Religion written by Rev. Archibald Campbell Knowles. You can get it from Deus Publications.

The version i have is the revised edition, revised size (1993) seventeenth printing version as edited by Loren Gavitt, published by Holy Cross. I think it's easier to navigate than the Forward Movement Publications version, and is not tied to the BCP, it has more rubrics as well. I find most useful the private prayers before and after Mass, before and after Communion.
