A very, very enjoyable video thank you Dave. Once this lockdown and terrible business is behind us it would be fantastic to have another day on the bank with you, as a celebration of life and angling.

Your Wye looks like a scaled up version of my beloved Ribble, Dave. I have really enjoyed your chub/barbel/dace/roach videos. Going off at a tangent I was also watching a video on a different channel the other day when you were reviewing some gear with Tom Scholey(?). As an aside you said that you believed we anglers shouldn't apologise to "normal" people for going fishing. I agree wholeheartedly.

Fred Hall Hi Fred. I’ve fished the Ribble and totally agree it’s very similar. Equally as beautiful too. Glad you’re enjoying the vids. Thanks for the positive feedback.👍

Great insight to the Wye, great results. Personally I don't like to see barbel kept in keepnet though.

Good stuff once again. Thank you for filming and sharing with us. What rods are you using on your feeder and float setups? Stay safe.

R.I.P. Mick. A question from the clueless. Have you caught salmon in coarse tackle? And vice versa, have you been out for salmon, and caught coarse fish? And lastly, where do we stand regarding the legality of either situation? Love seeing your little one. So full of youthful vigour, and love of life. Many thanks for this seasons videos. Lots of learning and entertainment has been enjoyed. Keep safe Dave.

Hello nice video nice fish aswell. Please can I ask why put barble in a keep net? I've always been told never ever put barble in a keep net they should be rested in a landing net then put back into the river.

Hi There Thanks for the feedback. It was a great day. Ref. Barbel and keepnets. It was always frowned upon by the Barbel police but the reality is it does them no harm at all. This video was shot in March when there’s no issues with oxygen. I don’t generally put them in a keepnet on pleasure sessions but we were also shooting an article and retained a couple for photos. Match anglers put barbel in keepnet a all the time and have been doing for 30+ years on the Wye. The stocks are bigger than ever and there is an abundance of smaller ‘shoal’ like the ones caught in this video. You rightly point out that Barbel should be rested carefully and keepnets actually give the fish this opportunity whilst still captive, rather than being released only to roll over once they hit the current. As with anything it’s up to us the anglers to make our own informed decisions based of prevailing conditions and experience. My advice would always be to avoid big barbel in keepnets but if you do then make sure there’s as much room as possible and make sure it’s in oxygenated water. 👍DR

Enjoyed all your vids so far thank you. I have not fished on the wye for over 30 years due to distance. Would love to have a few trips next year. Could you do a vid on the various sections pegs and best places to park etc during the close season cheers.

Barbel in keepnets........really?
@anglingescapadeswithdavero23633 жыл бұрын
Generally not when I’m pleasure fishing, but in matches, yes. In this case I put a couple on the net for a catch shot later as we were doing a magazine article. Does them absolutely no harm in Mid March and it’s not like they were big fish. I hear this a lot and it’s generally from people who haven’t actually spent that much time with barbel. I’m not suggesting that’s you, but you really have a look at the bigger picture, the circumstances, the conditions, and ask yourself, was it really worth jumping on the band wagon for? It could have been worse, I could have been 6 feet away, fishing 2 rods, with bolt rigs, oversized hooks, waiting for them to hang themselves, then putting them in a carp sack and dragging them out of the water once again, getting them on the Mat and then taking 10 minutes to get the right shot of my centre pin clad rod, lay astride! Or am I the one grasping at stereotypes?

Maybe,here's another side......I catch them,very rarely weight them(unless it looks like a double),rest them in the net until I'm absolutely sure it's okay to be released and slip them back.....no photo,because what do you do with the pictures,nothing......unless it's for sort of ego trip on social media

@@richardlongmuir8348 Exactly. Each to their own. Whatever you choose to do with your catch is a personal choice, as long as the fish swim off to fight another day is all that matters. There’s nothing I do in instructional videos, guided days or pleasure fishing that would see a fish go back in any more harm than it was caught. We promote good handling and fish welfare, but I get an increasing amount of people seeing something that isn’t in line with a certain ‘code’, as a chance to try and undermine what we do. A lot of the time I just delete it because it’s keyboard warriors. (It’s rife at the moment as everyone is bored) You are clearly not, and I wish you tight lines and good health for the future.

@@anglingescapadeswithdavero2363 I understand your stance on this, personal choice is a wonderful thing when the person is educated. I fish on Wye beats a couple of times each year where the use of keepnets is outright banned. This is, I suspect, to guard against anglers keeping large barbel in keepnets in July into shallow badly oxygenated water and doing them harm. Unfortunately some anglers will watch this video and without reading the comments think it is OK to put any barbel into a keepnet in any conditions. It's a tricky position for you as a content creator. Personally I've never kept a barbel in a keepnet even when allowed, I also don't rest them before lifting them out when I'm on a steep slippery bank, I lift them out when they are exhausted because I don't want to have a fight with a lively rested fish and possibly have it dropped/come to harm... I then rest it before release so it can cope with any current. Works for me, never had a fish go belly up/dropped one or damaged one on the bank. Tight lines!!! I enjoy your content.
