Cleanest, sweetest fish I've ever caught. When I used fo fish off norther Cal and caught lingcod, it was always a treat to cook the filets with olive oil, salt, lemon, lemon pepper, butter and baked in foil. Always came out so flaky and sweet. No fishy taste. If thr filets are extra thick, I slice it to make a pocket and stuff it with mushrooms, olives, onions and cook as above. Oh so good.

Just a 'by the way'... That first fish... We called those black sea bass back in the fifties when I was a kid fishing with my dad. I used to do charter and had a commercial fishing vessel out of Charleston by Coos Bay. Everybody knew those as "black rockfish". The University of Oregon had their marine Biology facility just right there by the marina. According to those guys and their pamphlet just about everything was a rockfish... Yelloweye Rockfish, Canary rockfish etc, etc. (still a sea bass, though.) I'm moving to Astoria the middle of September. Hope to catch you on a rock out there sometime. We can exchange fishing lies.🤔
