Brian, thanks for a great video. I got one of those YOLOtek sticks this offseason and I have the same thoughts that you do about stability, but I’ll test that out myself and I’ll probably plug it in the navigation light port so if it does come out it’ll fall into the boat, rather than in the drink. Also, the looping function, I had no idea existed and that will help me tremendously and I will definitely utilize this coming year, hopefully sooner rather than later with this quarantine... thanks again Brian! One of the biggest issues I’ve had with running a GoPro on a power bank for an extended recording time of several hours, is with the cameras sometimes randomly powering off. From what I understand there used to be an issue with overheating When the internal battery was installed. This was supposedly fixed with a firmware update, but I still occasionally experience camera shut downs although not related to overheating. I found some information saying that you have to make sure the internal battery is fully charged and that the camera is off when you plug-in and power on the power bank battery. This allows the camera to draw power from the power bank and essentially ignore the internal battery. However, on quite a few occasions I have followed that correct procedure of plugging in The power bank before powering on the camera, but then I can still see the battery indicator on the display of the camera showing that it is drawing down the internal battery. The way I use my cameras they are not always easily within reach to rectify the situation, as they are mounted externally on an aircraft. How can I be 100% sure that the GoPro is being powered by the external power bank rather than the internal battery, without actually removing the internal battery outright? While that is a viable solution, if the external power bank runs out of juice, the camera will shut down instantly without saving the last recorded segment, resulting in a corrupted file. This is because the GoPro has the ability to detect a low internal battery, and finish writing the file before shutting the camera down, but it cannot detect a low battery when running off a power bank. How can I be 100% sure my GoPro is running off the power bank exclusively while the internal battery is still installed? On the mini LCD display on the Front of the hero seven, there can be two charging indicators. One is white or hollow, with a black lightning bolt, and one is solid black with a white lightning bolt. Which one indicates which?
@AnglingAnarchy
@AnglingAnarchy 3 жыл бұрын
-AV8R- I've honestly not messed around with trying to keep a battery in the hero 7 black while also using external power because the first couple times I did, the camera would without fail, shutdown within 5 mins. I see the concern you have with not being able to get to the gopro to check it, but one of the Anker 13000mAh banks should last a good 12 hrs or so.
@AV8R_1
@AV8R_1 3 жыл бұрын
@@AnglingAnarchy Thanks, yeah, I have several 10000 and up mah banks, but I’ve only tried them a few times without the internal battery. I had issues getting the cameras to turn on. You have to time it right, and there was like a 10 second or more delay from when you push the power button, to when the camera actually turned on. It could be confusing when you thought the camera wasn’t going to turn on so you hit the power button again and it would keep turning on and off. I finally figured out you had to wait 10 or 15 seconds after pushing the power button on the camera before it would actually turn on.

The yolo stick is awesome because its very plug and play and its nice not having to worry about external power. The cons are that it would shake around on 3 foot Eagle Lake waves but with the video stabilization in the newer gopros its not that noticable. Otherwise I would stick with your setup as its definitely going to be more stable. The yolo stick is also fairly short so it wont point downward as much and this will limit the field of view for boatside action.

MY NECK OF THE WOODS The 13000mAh Anker already has 2 slots to plug USB cords in to run 2 GoPros. No need to run the 2 slot cig Charger if you're using an Anker power pack. The cig lighter adapter is just hooked into the Boats 12v system, so that will power the GoPros as well. Hope that makes sense, if not let me know. I bought my first GoPro Hero 7 Black three weeks ago for Motovlogging. I connected it to a ANKER PowerCore 26800. It ran all day and then some. NOTE: I found out I had to remove the internal battery because it was heating up and causing connection issues with my smart phone. My GoPro stayed cool all day too. Since I use GoPros on my motorcycle I can connect three cameras to one brick battery. One more thing, I like recording with 2.7K 60 FPS and superwide. The looping function changes the setting to 1080. Hmmm...

Frank Morales III I think the hero 7 black is my favorite Gopro! The Anker 13000mAh is what I use the most, but those bigger ones are powerhouse beasts! Not quite sure why it wont let you film 2.7k when looping. I like it because it will let me loop and film 1080p at 120 fps. Makes for some awesome slow mo whilst fishing!

Kirk Westervelt Outdoors That may be the case if you are powering the camera via the mini USB port with a battery in the camera, but I always use a Switronix Battery Eliminator cord with 3's and 4's, and that regulates the amperage so it's not an issue. But that is good to know.

@AnglingAnarchy
@AnglingAnarchy 3 жыл бұрын
Jamie's simply Bass fishing When you are looping, say with the 5 min loop, everytime you stop the camera you will have 12 files. 6 of them are junk LRV files that you can just get rid of. The other 6 will be five 1 min video files and the last one will be between 1 and 59 secs long. So if you started and stopped the camera 5 times you would have 60 files, 30 of which are the LRV files and the other 30 are your video files. As for the time you took it off looping, I've not heard of that happening. You should just have one large continuous file. Maybe try a hard re-set of the camera back to original factory settings?

Do you know how long a milwaukee m12 battery would power a go pro?
@AnglingAnarchy
@AnglingAnarchy 2 жыл бұрын
OldMilBoyz I've never tried one of the M12 batteries but I have run a M18 Red Lithium XC5.0 for 16 hours straight and will still have 2 of the 4 battery status indicators light up. I'm guessing a M12 2.0 would last upwards of 12 hours, but that's just a guess.

Every time my hero7 black is plugged in my screen on my GoPro just says USB Connected and I can’t get it off that screen. It does that whether the battery is in or not. Please help!

Alex Hall I've never come across that problem, so unfortunately I'm a little stumped. What power source are you connecting the gopro to via the USB cord?
@alexhall1732
@alexhall1732 4 жыл бұрын
Angling Anarchy I was connecting to a computer lol I figured out it had to be an external power source. Once I plugged it in my external power source, it worked so we are all good. Thank you for your reply!

MY NECK OF THE WOODS If you are trying to power a Hero 3 or 4 without one of the Switronix battery eliminator cords, you can do it by leaving the battery in and running a cord from the USB mini port on the side of the camera and then plug that into a USB port on a power pack. This essentially is continuously charging the battery and will power the camera all day as long as it doesn't overheat, which is the downside of powering the camera this way.

I saw a YoloTek Stick lost on Leech Lake this past fall, part of their security depends on what kind of light port you are plugging it into. Some light ports with a metal cover swing all the way around and use the screw that helps align it to help lock the stick in the light port. You can see that in this link... yolotek.com/products/attwood-guide-screw-locking-navlight-port-kit-rectangle

ever worry about the cameras drainging your boat battery?

@@jeantaylor6785 Anytime bud! All you'll need is a USB C Cord. Plug the USB C into the camera on the side (make sure you take the battery out before you power it externally) and then just plug the USB A side of the cord into any of the ports on the powerbank.

@@jeantaylor6785 if it's a Hero 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, having the battery in will cause it to shut down. You don't want the battery in any of those models when powering externally. The Hero 3 and 4 models need to have the battery in if you want to continuously power them by plugging into the cameras mini USB port.

Realized today the Anker sleeve (on the PowerCore) fits perfectly on the back of the chesty harness. www.reddit.com/r/gopro/comments/hrvrqz/anker_powercore_battery_fits_perfectly_on_back_of/ Are you doing anything to keep your GoPros waterproof when they're plugged in?
@AnglingAnarchy
@AnglingAnarchy 4 жыл бұрын
The Laborious H I don't really do anything to keep the cameras waterproof when plugged in. I just keep some plastic bags in the boat to throw over the cameras if its raining or there's a lot of spray from waves. The plastic bags with zippers on them that bedsheets sometimes come in are handy to have to cover cameras.
