On a recent visit to the Daiwa Sports trade show we met up with Martin Greene, who spent a few minutes talking us through some of the fantastic features on the new Daiwa Tournament BASIAIR Z45 QD Mag Sealed reel...

Well done. I only just got wind of this incredible-sounding reel and in your brief description I found much to point me in the right direction in my obtaining one. Yes, this little mechanism (not really so little) is what I believe that I need to get the casting-distance edge when large, migrating striped bass are just over the sandbar and out-of-range of 95% of the other anglers throwing 57 to 114 gram plugs at pods of feeding stripers. I am looking to pair this reel with a rod measuring anywhere from 3 to 3.35 meters with a forgiving nature but stout enough to load on the windup without shattering; I have a few candidates for that rod in mind. For me it's the line capacity that makes them useless to me. If you cast a lead out 200 yards out into the lake you only have 40 or so yards of line left on your reels. If you get a screamer and its a big carp or cat it could easily strip you out of line.

Toby Clark exactly. Stick to my ESP Onyx, £140 per reel, big pit, 45mm length spool, 300mtrs 15lb, folding handle, awsome line clip, slow oscillation, great reels!! Are a match for this Basiair, and actually beat them! Shimano will too, I've no clue how Diawa get away with that price!!!! And people pay it!!!!!!!!!! Mind boggling

In UK you're allowed with a set of 3 on the bank, but in my wretched country you are allowed with a set of 4. Well, friends, in order to get 4 of these I need so sell the house, sell my wife and possibly my poodle. I'll stick to my Daiwa Infinity's. This reel is price prohibitive! Only for the anglers with very deep pockets!

I do understand. From what I have been able to gather this reel would make a better caster out of me so I'm willing, just to get my hands on one (1), to sacrifice in other areas just to 'land' one of these Mag Basias.
