Anglo-Saxon Folk Music - "Wælheall"

"Wælheall" is a simple instrumental song made up of lyre, flute, and drums, meant to resemble and pay tribute to the music created in Anglo-Saxon England, and in the wider continental Germanic world as well.
Note: This is of my own creation, and is not a historic piece of music. It is an experiment entirely for entertainment purposes. The intention was to create something that could resemble the sort of music heard during the aforementioned time period.
You are free to use my music for hobbies/personal projects (Videos, educational, podcasts, schoolwork etc). For licensing, please send an email to archoncdn@gmail.com.

@@samwhite4608 England originates from Angleland “land of the Angles/Anglos” which came from the Angle tribe who were from modern day Denmark. Still Germanic nonetheless. And yep English people are mostly Germanic in many areas. They are more Celtic in the Scottish/Welsh border areas as well as Devon and Cornwall but everywhere else it’s mostly Germanic. On average it’s 30-40% Anglo-Saxon, 19% “German/French” which is just from the Normans, 9% Scandinavian from the Danes, and the rest is all Celtic.

The Anglo-Saxons are not part of your DNA, you have to be English to be Anglo-Saxon. The Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and Frisians migrated into Britian creating the Anglo-Saxons. And btw, English people are 78% germanic, 2% eastern European, and 20% Briton. Not a lot of briton blood.

@@backyardbiologist6468 A major portion of that 'English' heritage is Scandinavian due to the Danes who were absorbed into Aengland before Hastings as well as the Normans who fought for Godwinson and the Normans (along with other Franks, as well as Bretons) who fought alongside there Duke William. This Norse-French influence is also pervasive in Wales, Scotland as well as Ireland. It is, after all, the backdrop of the British Empire.

@@JRJH-cw4pz It is sad. Also, tragic. The Old Aenglisc did after set up their Witan in contrast to the Roman 'Curia Regis' in the centuries following their conquest of Britain only for the old 'Curia' to be forced on them by William The Conqueror, the system their descendants (as well as the Anglo-Normans) live under to this day. @oldboy977
@oldboy977 6 жыл бұрын
Nima Pourkarimi That's not true at all. Charlemagne even came to England to help did them of their "Pagan" problem. The first Saxon King to convert was a weak fugitive who spent most of his life trying to escape being killed by rivals by hiding in friendly kingdoms. There is a theory that the Pagan Danes, (who lived where the Saxons did formerly) were asked by their Saxon cousins to come to their aid after the death of Charlemagne of France. That is why the first raid was on a monastery shortly after the death of Charlemagne. Sorry the facts don't aline. Most of the Anglo Saxon writings even in the later period make references to Woden, showing that they are at least torn or having a difficult time letting go of the old ways. Even the biblical stories were changed to convert them, Christ wasn't presented as a meek pacifist his crucifixion was presented akin to Wodens sacrifice on the world tree. The fact that Ostara/Easter (a Saxon fertility goddess) is still celebrated should speak volumes. Maybe you should read a bit more of the surrounding stories instead of the world of one source before you slander an entire people.

My family held minor nobility around Surrey and it was mentioned in the Domesday book from the 11th century. Obvioulsy they lost those titles when the Normans took over, but it was still nice to see my "Noble Blood" wasn't from Normans, but from actual Anglo-Saxon ancestors. Luckily the Normans kept better records than the Angles and Saxons, lol. Or might have never known for certain what i grew up being told by my Grandfather. My Swedish side is from old Uppsala. It pays a damn good tribute to it, it's a simple and non-overwhelming piece that would be ideal for such a video and it certainly has a strong Anglo-Saxon vibe to it, it wouldn't fit an academic diatribe about the Anglo Saxon world, but for a primary school project, it would do fine. As to your request, "Eve B", I am not the creator and I feel kinda bad speaking for him and I hope not to disrespect the creator by doing so, but believe me, there's no way he would've minded your daughter using it for a primary school project, I know I'm late, but if in the future this comes up with this or any other song, as long as it's a small scale, especially education-based use of the product/song with the inclusion of a link, then no creator will ever mind.

I carry the proud Saxon name of Everette. It translates to "fearless bravery". Literally, it translates to "wild boar," the Saxon symbol of the type of bravery that will carry a charging boar up the shaft of a spear to kill the man who kill it. JohnnyAppleSeed 49 you realise that the only place in Scotland with significant Angle blood is the area around Edinburgh? Even then it's Anglo-Brythonic. Scotland is majority Brythonic, Gaelic and Norse at the very northern edge, besides the Lowland scots language, Anglo-Saxons have very little to do with Scotland.
@palepilgrim1174
@palepilgrim1174 4 жыл бұрын
@@foolofhearts8126 And as for the snide "Anglo-Brythonic" remark, there is not a SINGLE region of the British Isles anywhere close to being purely descended from one group of people. Nor is there a single region of Europe or the WORLD that is anywhere close to being purely descended from one group of people. Every single area of Scotland has genetic input from Germanic peoples, some regions of Scotland are as genetically Germanic as EAST ANGLIA. If your sole sense of identity hinges on vague, perceived concepts of blood/descent, you have no identity. Picts died out when their language did. For centuries people just assumed the Picts had been genocided until recent DNA testing showed they actually did survive and were just assimilated into an Irish identity. You are not a Pictish man. And if the Picts were still around today they would not consider you Pictish, they would consider you ENGLISH because you can only speak the tongue of the ENGLISH.

@@foolofhearts8126 Now stop f***ing LARPing as ancient ethnic groups you don't belong to and either embrace your ACTUAL ethnic identity (which is English) or fucking learn Welsh, take a Welsh name and embrace the closest thing remaining today to a Pictish identity, once you're fluent in Welsh and speaking it regularly. But of course YOU won't do that will you because learning Welsh requires effort and you'd rather just LARP as something you're not in order to feel special. Pathetic.

Pale Pilgrim also, modern English folk who call themselves Anglo Saxon could have the same argument used against them, because they only speak modern English which is highly romanised, therefore the Anglo Saxons would likely consider them Normans.

We Germanics, as it were, and northern Europe in general, should all be proud of our heritage and of who we are.
