As the wiki will also confirm, whether a chest can evolve a weapon or not depends on one thing only: The timing of the enemy it got dropped by. Pre-10-minutes chests do not evolve weapons, even if you meet all other requirements, the ones afterwards always do when a weapon is eligible for evolution. Most weapons only need the first level of the corresponding accessory, although there are a few exceptions (mostly from the recent DLC). There are a few exceptions to the chest rule as well, notably the first chest on Mad Forest can evolve weapons despite being a *very* early drop (all the other ones before 10 minutes cannot), and so can all chests on Dairy Plant. I think some other later stages also let you evolve weapons earlier, but don't quote me on that.

It's SUCH a good defensive choice, even without the Garlic/Soul Eater which gives enemies weakness to knockback! And WITH that, as Peppino has, it makes it quite hard to get yourself hit!

Hey, Tom, both the two rings and the two red arrows that spawn on every map can be used to evolve a weapon. Combining their evolved weapons makes killing Death possible

To answer your questions about the evolutions Tom. You can only get evolutions after 10 minutes, the chests can drop before 10, but you have to pick it up after 10 minutes for an evolution to pop. Check out the evolutions of the Lancet by picking up the two rings. The Laurel evolves with the two Left and Right arrows. The randomized card for a counterpart works in that ANOTHER weapon will spawn with it. If you grab a gun, a second gun will be there shooting as well. It’s literally 2x the dps on all those weapons.

Also worth noting that those evolutions require max upgrades on both the Laurel / Lancet and the items.

More specifically: Whether a chest can evolve a weapon depends on the timing it was dropped, not the timing of the pickup. By default chests from before 10 minutes cannot evolve weapons, with the first one on Mad Forest being an exception (so saving the one dropped by the bat early on makes sense, the others will only grant regular items anyway). Other than that one, chests on Dairy Plant (and maybe some other stages, but don't quote me on that) can evolve weapons even before the 10 minute mark.

So the tree's main weapon is Soul Eater which deals more damage as you recover health, and has a chance to heal 1 health when defeating and enemy, with chance based on damage. The bonus damage from healing is unaffected by Strength. And it takes healing 1620 health through all sources to guarantee healing from Soul Eater. The best starting Arcana is 21(unlocks by getting Poe to 50). After that, 4 and 8 are great, if you see them in chests. Arcana 8 is needed if you want to kill death; once you figure out what the Red Arrows are for. Because of Arcana 21, the best weapons to use with it are: both guns, Pentagram, Laurel, Santa Water. After evolving the guns, Garlic is a great choice for a final weapon, even though you already have the evolved form. Best items with this set up are: Attractorb, Duplicator, Crown, Hallow Heart, Tiragisu, Empty Tome. Attractorb and Duplicator boost the damage of your non Santa Water weapons, thanks to Arcana 21. Santa Water can evolve with Attractorb, and benefits from Duplicator. Crown helps you to level and is needed to evolve Pentagram. Hallow Heart ups max health, giving you more padding, and a higher point to revive to. Tiragisu, on top of being needed for evolving the guns, and buffing them if you do revive, helps keep you alive, buff you via Arcana 4, and reach the recovering goal for Soul Eater. Empty Tome is just too good to pass up.

Was gonna say, it hurt everytime he ignored the healing over time item since it would have massively improved his damage output. Garlic always has and always will be my top weapon in the game. Early on it let's you farm the shit out of enemies since the starting ones (and skeletons) die on contact, then evolved it can do big damage and definitely carries me a lot combined with the right support weapons

I am of the opinion that the pummarola would have been an incredible choice for that run considering you had the sarabande of healing card that makes it into a really strong damaging option, and getting garlic again would have meant you had two damaging auras around you which I also think would have been a strong play.

Garlic makes enemies easier to knock back/freeze and can be upgraded to lifesteal. So enemies can be easier kept on distance, while also helping you out heal bosses. And the Magic Wand is one of the most pushy weapons in the game and it aims to closest enemy - aka enemies that are surviving inside your Auras.

Tom, weapons can't be evolved until after 10 minutes on most maps. That's why your bible didn't upgrade during your 2nd tree attempt. (Around 8min mark)

Chests that can evolve weapons won't start dropping until after the 10 minute mark. The most notable exception is the milk plant where you can get evolving right away. And if the cards are enabled the first boss after will 10 and 20 minutes will have a chest with a card. (if this boss, or the chest dropped by it is erased by the pentagram you will not get another chance at the second or third card).

only chests from bosses spawned after a certain point (i think 10 minute mark) can drop evolutions. and because you at one point said youd take both evolutions as well: you can only ever get one max. and because you were speculating on having to upgrade the trinket thingy to max as well: there may or may not be some "secret" evolutions that do work like that but i dont want to spoil that for anyone reading this who wants to discover stuff themselves ;)

Little note: The chests boss mobs drop will only contain evolutions for weapons you got to max *_before_* it drops, so there's no point in waiting on picking up chests.

Unless they changed it recently, you can hold off on grabbing chests until you hit max on a weapon to evolve it. However, not all chests are capable of dropping weapon evolutions (generally chests before the 10 minute mark can't evolve weapons, with some exceptions)
