Cyclists are allowed to ride abreast, and even more than 2 abreast. This is actually more considerate to drivers as it shortens their overtake, and those drivers should be changing lanes completely to overtake anyway.

I used to grt a bit fustrated when seeing cyclist two abreast but then i saw something on the news and it changed my way of thinking. That if its not a safe enough moment to overtake two abreast then its not safe enough to over take one because either way you need to use the oncoming lane. Also, its a shorter overtake when two abreast rather than a long line of single cyclists. Certainly given me a better and more relaxed perspective on things now.

VED (pollution tax) barely pays for the motorways, and the NHS bill for road violence and pollution related illness is much bigger than fuel receipt (another pollution tax). Ultimately the roads are the public space, and the public is there by right. Unless you are a driver, in which case you are there conditionally on having a revokable licence, and driving safely - these violent numbskulls certainly did not fit into that bracket.

Worth noting that Priory Lane is slightly downhill so cyclists rarely much slower than the 20mph limit. Also, lorry would have been stuck at the lights regardless of how fast the were able to go.

What are you talking about? This cyclist was already well past his marker and out in the junction turning into the next road when the scaff van broke hard because of almost hitting another car who chose to drive through traffic, and stopped him from continuing. The BMW hadn't even crossed their marker yet but proceeded through anyway despite the cyclist having right of way. So how is that the cyclist cutting in front of the BMW causing it to brake? If anything it was the BMW driver who put themselves in a position where they had to brake hard because they didn't pay attention. It could see traffic blocking the way in the middle of the junction thanks to that van trying to catch up with the other cyclists and proceeded anyway. That is on the BMW driver, not the cyclist! Just because you have a green light does not always mean you can or should go!! Always amazes me how people can juggle reality to meet their prejudices and convictions and then force them as verdicts of truth, as though this was the only part you could see in this entire video that could warrant blame on a cyclist.

I worked in the construction industry for some years, yes, scaffolders have the highest percentage of arseholes amongst their number, having said that I've met some really solid guys to, one guy, lovely bloke, came down 4 lifts of scaffolding one day to ask me a question ..... 'Could you read this letter for me mate I can't read or write' well I read it for him, and asked, what about the other blokes in your crew, wouldn't they read it for you? his reply .... Those pavement based cycling lanes cause more problems than they solve. The one on priory lane is a good example. Hardly any cyclist uses it and it just agrevates car/van drivers when they ride on the road. If there was a cycling lane on the road, there would be less aggression

We really need to see violent drivers being given life bans for this type of behaviour. In fact, the behaviour shown in this video falls far short of the standards required for commercial drivers. Sadly, many drivers appear to be incapable of understanding that riding single file actually means more time spent on an overtake, not less. It would be good if, at the very least, this issue were to be included as a question in the driver theory test, to help weed out those drivers who simply don't get it.

Clearly they took offence to the two cyclists initially Infront of them being on the road holding them up instead of the cycle lane to the left. Whether words were exchanged or not, the truck driver's continued rage and threatening behaviour is the biggest issue here.

In Washington state where I live, riding two abreast is a violation. Riders are supposed to ride single file. They changed the rule forty years ago in response to an accident where a bicyclist ran into another and both went into oncoming traffic and were killed.

If this happened, cyclists would be in much less danger, even when using a bad cycle lane (which there is plenty of) as the majority of those that can harm you (privately driven cars) are taken out of the equation. Only public transport, emergency vehicles, delivery vehicles etc should be allowed on ordinary roads.

As others have pointed out, it seems to be a 20mph and a downhill to boot, hence most cyclists will be on about 20mph or just over, which means going faster than the cyclist will mean breaking the speed limit.

You have to anyway, as per teh highway code. In addition that road is a 20 - there is no reason to o'take those riders as they were easily doing in the late teens. Basically entitled vehicle drivers attempting to chase down, intimidate and assault people who have posed no threat, whilst endangering all the other road users and pedestrians about them is the actual issue here Toddlers have no business operating heavy machinery - at least if they have a tantrum on foot they are less able to hurt others.

If there are 2 riders in a line you have to move into the opposite lane for longer to pass them as they are longer. If they ride two abreast it could be easier. Your inital post suggested cars wouldn't need to move into the opposite lane to pass a single rider which is clearly (obviously) not true. @@Eastbarn1

He claims that the cyclists spat through his window and threw a bottle at him before what we see on the video here. Although, I don't believe that because if I were to spit at someone or throw a bottle at them, I wouldn't go back to riding my bike in front of them out of fear of being driven over.
