I was too late to report this driver as I was busy at work at the time, so he got off completely scott-free. Interestingly, TfL have recently changed their policies on what offences will result in a green badge being revoked. It takes at least 12 points, or two mobile phone convictions, to be considered for driver licence disqualification. TfL will, however, revoke a green badge or PHV licence for a single mobile phone conviction. I hope this taxi driver doesn't use his phone any more. I also hope that this incident gave him a big shock. The police officers didn't seem very sympathetic to him, and it's clear to me that they considered him the problem as they were quite happy to leave me standing quietly whilst all their effort and attention was focused on him. I really disliked the immense entitlement and bad behaviour from this cabbie - his misbehaviour and abuse caused it to be difficult for me to edit this video and revisit it, which is why I left it so long before uploading. I'm still flabbergasted that he thought it was a good idea to call 999 in an attempt to stop me reporting him and avoiding prosecution. Also his cab has a dent in the rear, and I thought that cabbies weren't allowed to ply for hire with such?
Oh, and soz I didn't blur you, Mr Jogger and Mr Police Officer. I figured your stories were just too important a part of what happened.

The police should have officers riding around on bicycles in plain clothes, and no markings on their bikes, as motorists wont pay much attention to them and they can catch them red handed, more so in large cities with traffic jams, a lot of people will check their emails, text messages, or WhatsApp, twitter, which is of course against the law, keep up the great work Mikey your saving life's.

Indeed. He threw multiple toddler tantrums, but then he finally filled his nappy. The most telling aspects of his behaviour were the ease with which he agreed with the facts that he’d committed the offence, but seemed to believe that the act of catching him was somehow worse, and when at 19:55 he described himself as “a grown man” (debatable) then started crying and ran like a toddler to the police! I’ve rarely seen such nonsense, and I sincerely hope the pathetic little immature protothug reads this, and maybe reflects on his attitude to life. Truly appalling. Peace

I know you are not supposed to hold your phone whilst driving. But considering he was doing half a mile an hour I wouldn't consider this dangerous
@CyclingMikey
@CyclingMikey 11 күн бұрын
Stationary phone drivers are still dangerous for many reasons: 1) The people using their phones when stationary are very often the same people using them when moving. They only put the phone down because I caught them. 2) They are entirely unaware of people crossing the road around them. See here where a phone driver almost hits someone in the queue twitter.com/phonekills/status/1491526464520560641?s=20 See this other tweet where a 5 year old child is almost hit by a phone driver who was stationary: x.com/cmdkenyon/status/1724483042046067052?s=20 And another: x.com/WelshBrendan2/status/1796099766557774129 3) They are entirely unaware of filtering cyclists and motorcyclists, despite the Highway Code requiring us to be aware of this. 4) Phone distraction lasts for a good time after you put the phone away. Even if you're only using the phone in each traffic queue at each junction (which is highly unlikely), then you're constantly topping up your mental distraction and are basically as disabled as a drunk driver. 5) Phone driving is worse than drink driving for distraction rates, and that's why it's part of the #Fatal4 behaviours that police target heavily. 6) Here's a police officer telling you that he has been on the scene for 3 fatal RTCs involving drivers who were stationary whilst using their phones, and then moved off and caused a collision: twitter.com/markandcharlie/status/1604073330751197184?s=20&t=uj8sgu7spu4cTyDqqqds2g 7) Policing phone drivers will help them stop other traffic offences too - it's vanishingly rare that someone only breaks a single traffic law like mobile phone use. 8) Parliament recently chose to strengthen the mobile phone law around stationary phone use because it's dangerous and the science supports this. I'm really not interested in this nonsense of "it's not dangerous when stationary, because it clearly is and it's clearly still very appropriate to catch these drivers.

My favourite part is 20:00 - "you've upset me, I'm a grown man..." and then he cries like a child because he was caught doing something he admits is dangerous and wrong but YOU upset him because you caught him and you're a grass, which to him is worse than putting people's lives in danger. What a pathetic man child he is. I am disappointed you didn't get to report him.
@hegedusuk
@hegedusuk 2 жыл бұрын
He’s not crying like a child, it’s stress. Whether or not he did something wrong (and he did), he is rightfully under emotional stress. I think the issue here is not that he’s realised he’s been caught being dangerous and breaking the law, but that he hasn’t been caught by a policeman. He hopefully recognises police as authority figures, and if he was caught by a policeman, he’d probably be pissed off but contrite. However he was caught by CyclingMikey, someone who he recognises as his equal, and not an authority figure. That’s what’s so upsetting for him. The police aren’t bound by a whim to charge someone for dangerous driving, but CyclingMikey is. I applaud most of what he does, especially at that junction at Regent’s Park, as that’s blatantly dangerous, but there’s something niggling at me about his trying to catch phone-drivers.

I was nearly hit by a car just last month. The driver was on his phone! Keep doing what you do. People like him need to understand there are consequences to their actions. The gentleman who nearly hit me, thankfully braked and stopped an inch from my leg. He could have taken a mother away from 2 children. Driving whilst on the phone is deplorable. Well done for staying calm and I am sorry to hear about your father 💜
