I agree with the officer 100% about the body cams. When I was a bus driver they fitted our buses with cameras and while a bunch of the old timers were pissed about it but I was totally on board. As long as I do my job right, then I’m covered no matter what happens. I had a car run a red while I was making a left. The multiple camera angles not only showed that my light was green but that the other car made contact with the bus. I filled out an incident report and that’s all I heard about from my employers. Cameras are great. Everyone should get one for their car.

This was excellent. I love when people who try to scam the police and get caught in their lie. The public screamed for body cams for public safety and it's turned out it's the police who need that protection from liars.

@@agoo7581 That is what I've always believed. The only exception would be if the body camera was disabled during an altercation. They can't control that. I feel like even knowingly covering it up with their hand should count as well.

Like to save battery life when not on a call or interacting with the public / suspects, when talking to other officers about personal business or even cases where the suspect isn't speaking to the police or has any interaction with police, etc. Police are only required to have their body cams on while directly engaged in their duties and in the direct performance of their duties. Most body cams now are auto.atically activated when Police activate their emergency lights and or siren. They can also be turned on manually. For example, if Police are chasing a suspect once they have arrested that subject and put them into the back of another police car they are absolutely allowed to turn off body cams. Or if they arrest someone for drugs they can turn off their body cams to talk about the case amongst other officers while the suspect is in cuffs and they move sway from that suspect to talk. They can be talking about information that can't be made public like a confidential informants identity, etc... So many people are so grossly misinformed about police body cams and what is and isn't allowed. I think with the massive spread of body cams over the last decade across the country it has shown the public more of how idiotic, stupid, and evil the people police encounter everyday. So many people thought bodycams would reveal this massive level of corruption, abuse, and criminal behavior by cops and it's the opposite. Sure, there have been some cases where body cams showed bad cops being dirty and even worse then the criminals they go after but for every 1 body cam video of a cop that breaks the law there are hundreds of thousands that exonerate police and show the cops did nothing wrong. So many times a criminal is shot by police and the criminals family goes on TV screaming about how the cop murdered their " poor, unarmed, non violent " family member and yell they are filing a lawsuit. Then the body cam is released showing that person was armed and tried to kill the cops....

Funny, we had the same false report story occur in our SO. The detectives brought in to investigate were shown the in-car video then sat down with the woman. They asked for her story, had her fill out the full report form, then arrested her for filing a false report once she signed under penalty of perjury. The story was taught in the academy to help remind us why the cameras help us.

You KNOW that detectives were almost forced to completely disregard these accusations unless there was a history. How many victims of bad officers are out there because of the number of false accusations by karens willing to destroy good officers' lives for doing nothing more than their jobs? You know there are people on both sides of these outcomes and the perpetrators never suffered consequences because of false reports.

So much for the Fairy Tale the defendant was telling. 35 years ago, Insurance companies donated cameras to the police departments which allowed them to film drunk drivers while they tested them. That made it really difficult to beat the charges when the jury saw that video!!
