Rider doesn’t know the first thing about riding either. If he did, he would have spotted the danger and stayed away from it. The other guy might be legally at fault, but the rider can definitely hold himself accountable for being stupid enough and not being able to avoid this accident.

The biker who injured his back has xrays that look just like mine.... Although hopefully in the next few months I'll be getting my neck fused as well with more rods and screws..... I've lived with that type of injury since I was hurt on the job in 01.....my best wishes to that biker for a speedy recovery!!! I can only imagine how frightened his father was.... Hope both are doing well!!!

There is every chance that it is private property, in which case the owner can give him notice to move. Tricky because he’ll be letting pedestrians cut the corner; and many that enter the shop in a non-perpendicular line. But it’s his choice. In which case, the rider is right - it has nothing to do with the Highway Code. The HwC only prevents parking on pavements in London. Elsewhere it’s only prohibited where you block pedestrian, wheelchairs etc; or a dropped kerb area to someone’s property. That’s the HwC. In relation to it being private space. It’s highly likely because A) it looks like an old residential plot and so its boundaries probably match the rest. And B) the council are responsible for maintaining a full highway width - that’s the public road, public footpath and associated ditches etc.; hence they’ll often only adopt the very smallest width of road. There’s a high chance the council have zero interest in that scruffy bit of tarmac. So rider - less argument, just vote with your feet. Go. Ignore them. AND the crazy thing is, that if it is private property then there’s nothing the police or council can do. You can park there until told not to, then it becomes a civil matter and they’ve got to take you to court. It’s like people can park on my front lawn and I can’t do anything about it unless I take them to court and also notify them of trespass. I can only get them towed away if they’re blocking my exit. Weird UK laws.
