Robert Downey Jr was in his 40s during the first Iron Man. That's objectively one of the greatest casting choices in comic movie history. Look at Ian McKellen for Magneto, or Patrick Stewart for Xavier. They were well past 40 and stuck around for a while. Yes, I get their characters are older anyway, but they still made it last for years. Hugh Jackman played Wolverine for 17 years. He started at 32. Henry started at 29. So that still gives him a good 7 years when using Jackman's time. And he's RETURNING as Logan at the age of 54. Henry is not too old. He's PERFECT for a middle aged Superman that's been doing this for a few years.

Never once did we truly, truly get to see Henry's Superman in that wholly hopeful, optimistic light he wanted to portray and we wanted to see. There was always that air of misery and gloom to him even through to the Snyder Cut, which is fine in the context, since he'd just died, but that just highlights the structural problems of killing Superman when they did only to then organise the league with Superman almost entirely absent and even when present, never playing that hopeful role. Even in the Snyder cut, when he arrives, he doesn't interact with one member. He's more like a weapon for them than a source of hope and leadership. The idea they have the epitome of the right actor to play Superman, who is several movies in, has a loyal fanbase waiting to see him back, he has personally fought to remain Superman, and instead of banking on that, they're cutting him out entirely?
