Unless I am very much mistaken, most countries have very well-publicised restriction advice for travellers on what can and cannot be brought into the country. Not only that, but on every international flight I have been on, one has to fill out a form - handed out while still in flight - which states all the goods one has to declare BEFORE going through Customs. So in reality, there is really no excuse for any of these folk to sling off at the Customs Officers for doing their job. Neither ignorance nor an attempt to smuggle stuff in is going to change the end result.

One day, despite his youth, he had a massive, fatal heart attack. One day, he was outside smoking; the next day, he was gone. A cigarette habit can be dangerous in so many ways.

Passengers attempting a common scam, pay for your trip or profit by attempting to bring quantities of tobacco that clearly exceed the legal allowance. These huge quantities are evidence of criminal intent, seize the goods then charge them with tax evasion. Their attitude is an attempt to cause the customs officer to make a mistake which will allow them to avoid the charges If you think HM Customs are being unfair / punitive or you think the tax levied is excessive, then vote for political party that will change the situation Finally, remember, HM Customs & Revenue have more powers than the regular police BTW, I don’t work for them, I have experience in licensing gaming machines, which they also oversee

Don't worry, once you are on their computer record you'll get red-flagged every time you front up. Even if you change to a new passport. Elephants might sometimes forget - government records NEVER do!

I am a former assistant customs officer at Sydney International Airport, and I'm so sorry you have had to put up these types, albeit they form only a small proportion of the total arrivals. I was lucky that I experienced almost total cooperation by pax, and even when I had to do prosecutions there was no unpleasantness. Keep up the good work!
