I remember a line from dawn of war I where one of the Eldar said something like "They are heading to the ambush site just as you predicted" and the Farseer Eldar reply was "You can never ambush a space marine. They constantly expect treachery so all you can do is confirm their suspicion."

I know everyone loves space marines, and I do too. But the day I get to play an eldar banshee or somesuch tearing through mongrels with grace and magic is the day I will be happy. 40k is such an untapped gold mine and I could play a space marine type game for pretty much every single freaking race around. Except maybe necrons, that might be a bit slow.

Had hopes at one point for an mmo w40k based back when wow was huge, something I couldn't wait for, selecting eldar or space marine as your race instead of human or orc, then marine or apothecary instead of warrior or priest? Would have been awesome but we got a different type of game I can't remember the name of and then the mmo market fell off.... Always been gutted about that tbh.

Fun fact: Warhammer 40K: Boltgun exists in the same canon as the Space Marine games. One of the lines you get from pressing the taunt button is, “I will finish what Captain Titus started”

Apparently multiplayer connection is really bad though. Other reviewers just couldn’t connect at all. I hope the devs implement offline without needing to login, I remember WWZ required login for offline at launch so no one could play at all for the first week.

i was surprise Saber Interactive manage to exceed their previous game (WWZ) and improved upon it's game mechanics that i didn't expect Swarm Engine has more to offer. notably that bigger levels, verticality, and plethora of ways in eradicating the Tyranids benefiting the gameplay variety and player progression.

I remember the first space marine game being pretty mid. It's a 76 on metacritic and I played it back in the day, it was very high on the cool meter and had a decent story but it was also shallow, short, and repetitive. The scope of this game seems much larger and the combat looks like it includes many new mechanics, not to mention having coop and skill progression. Honestly it barely even looks related to the first game.

@hopscotch_ They're from a Space Marine legion called the Thousand Sons. In the past, they were vulnerable to something called the flesh change, where they would suddenly mutate and die in freaky body horror type ways. Some of the leading members of the legion cast a spell to try to stop this from happening. It technically worked, but in exchange for being safe from the Flesh Change, it turned most of the Legion into rubrics, who have no physical bodies or free will. They're basically robots that can be commanded by sorcerers, but otherwise can't do anything or remember who they are.

the thing that has me the most curious about SM2 is the fact that all of the marketing has focused on talking about the tyranids as if they're the only threat, but then there's a bit of B roll footage here and there with Ksons and Zangors as well. I wonder how they'll fit into the story

Well in the first game, the main enemy was Orks for most of the first half of the story. It was only towards the end that Chaos revealed itself and a much more terrible foe stepped forward. It seems like they might be doing the same here, but I hope the story makes it more interesting than that. Simply repeating Space Marine 1 with different enemies would be a let-down.

Dude, it's wild how good this game looks, graphically. I mean, the original came out in 2011, so this would obviously look like a step up, but this is one of those games that really looks next gen to me. Atmosphere looks on point as well. As long as the guns feel as beefy as your characters, this one is gonna be fun.

Really hope they can fix or patch those issues you mentioned. It was my worry when they announced it was full co-op: when a campaign can be multiplayer the whole way, something usually falls off in the mechanics dept. Whether that's balancing, boss scaling, whatever. But it sounds like it should be a relatively simple fix.

They send more than 3 space marine but they operate in 3-5 man fire teams typically when supporting guard elements. It used to be a chapter (or strike unit) of Space Marines was only 1000 marines strong, With 10 companies each being 100 marines. This was fighting troops mind you it didn't count support staff, pilots, etc. Though recent story elements that have changed the universe have bumped that up to Legion levels so 'Chapters' have ballooned to tens of thousands in size fighting across multiple fronts.

Only thing I'm worried about this game is the solo expreience. It reminds me of something like Halo 5 Guardians or Resident Evil 5 where your AI companion/companions aren't that much of a help, so I'd have to play with friends mainly, but I do have a few people that I know of that are going to be picking this up too. Other than that, looks like a great worthy sequel!

What put me to yearn for the game was it's from the developers of WWZ(arguably basically an L4D with skill progression 8/10). It fits the criteria fitting of the genre for a developer making the sequel, and previous game they've develop is a good example for what's to come, good or bad (notably the servers).

So their online FAQ says that you can not progress offline, so im sure that applies to the final product as well. So what happens when your offline does everything reset like you starting over? And are any of the operation missions affected by this? Will we be able to play every mission and use every weapon and class if we're offline?

@@Sgt_Glory Never understood this reason. Everyone has internet. And the days where there were issues with the connectivity between the client and server are kind of over. I have very very rarely encountered any issues in any always online game.

@bogdanionut7768 honestly alot of people don't have internet (I know it's hard to believe), but it's true. Your internet will go down, servers will have issues and go down, and lastly, the most important thing to realize is that these servers are going to be shut down eventually and if the game doesn't preform well enough for the investors and publishers this will happen sooner than later. When this happens, a big part of the game will be erased from existence. IDK about everyone else, but I still like to go back to games and replay them. Some from before I was even born.

I sometimes go to places where internet isn't quality, or it's still metered. This makes me lean to have a good selection of games I can play offline. Red Alert is one of my biggest hurts of losing LAN ability. Always sad when the servers game and you can't do anything anymore

Easily my most anticipated game of the year. The first game was a solid, in unspectacular, third person action game but was a great time for 40K fans. This, however, looks like the 40K game I've always imagined. It seems like the developers knew exactly what to do with the universe.

seeing WWZ as the best fitting game to compare for whats to come, it's going to be more on the variety side since it's a game akin to L4D blueprint but with player progression (class system and weapon upgrades) the replayability would be handled by AI director on AI spawns (like L4D) but with 2 level design changes seeing WWZ

Kind've bummed to hear that Co-op has been seemingly the primary focus for this game. Like co-op is fun and I love when its an option... but I feel like almost every game these days expects you to play with friends or not at all. Everything else about this seems pretty exciting, but as a busy adult it looks like its going to be another game I'm going to struggle to get together my other busy adult friends to play once every two months.

Game idea: Warhammer 40k Warriors. I think the space marines especially would do well in the 1 vs. 1,000 game play of the Warriors franchise. And for me at least, even as a long time fan of the franchise, I feel like their games set in other franchises seem to be overall more interesting in their recent mainline offerings. That said, we'll see what Dynasty Warriors Origin does. But, Space Marines unleashing musou attacks? Come one... we all want to see that right?

I want to remain carefully optimistic but I've heard from others who played the game earlier that combat and enemy variety got a bit boring quite fast, and I did not like how World War Z handled its horde gameplay. I know, early builds and all that but still. About Co-op mode; I'm not playing this coop on my first playthrough where "Pu$$ydestr0ya98" is rushing through every cutscene to get the most kills or whatever. And I don't know yet if the game is mechanically fun enough to warrant a replay in coop afterwards. Bummer that the AI seems to be strongly geared towards it. Anyway, fingers crossed, it LOOKS great still.

Games Workshop's willingness to farm out the IP to pretty much anyone that are both able afford it and also willing to put up with a GW execs arm up their arse has led to actually good Warhammer games being pretty few and far between. Even the decent ones tend to have major caveats. So it's always a treat when a diamond sneaks through, especially if its an action title which is much less common than the turnbased ones in this franchise.

I'm looking forward to the campaign, but my fondest memory of Space Marine 2 was when I was playing a Co-op mission against Orks with my roommate, he was down, I was on my last legs and the Orks were going to overwhelm us and two of our buddies jumped into the game in the middle of it, one of them shouting "Your duty is not yet over, Brother!" I still get chills thinking about that experience. I don't usually play multiplayer, but I might make an exception for this one.
