Not many games can genuinely make you panic. While we shouldn't forget the achievements that is the original Half-Life and Half-Life 2, that doesn't mean they can't be improved in the future. =) Also, you kind of downplayed your argument in the same sentence..? You would think that if it's just a cash grab they would release it on flat-screen only so more people can buy it than a, at the time of release, very short consumer span. Valve's comments when questioned about PSVR seemed like it is very likely to appear on PS5/ PSVR eventually. "Designer Greg Coomer reconfirms that the "initial" release of Half-Life: Alyx will be "available for SteamVR only". It definitely sounds like Valve is aware of the desire to see the game come to PSVR, however: "We believe Sony’s VR platform has been a huge success for the medium, and we assume that lots of Sony customers would love to experience this new chapter of Half-Life."" Since I can't really afford a VR rig right now, I was just wondering if Valve was planning on porting this game over to standard platforms at any time in the future. I'm hoping so since I'd imagine that there are far more players ready to give this title money who don't have VR than do and I can't imagine that Valve would want to loose out on all of that money and not shift more units.
@Johnny6414 жыл бұрын
I am playing it now, IMHO on a monitor, it would be a very dull game. The game is very slow-paced to avoid not overwhelming people and relies on VR immersion to work. You have Cyberpunk 2077 to look forward too so I wouldn't feel to bummed about HL Alyx.
@sqlevolicious4 жыл бұрын
Nope. It won't happen. VR doesn't work like that. For example, you would end up spending a lifetime just creating the hundreds of millions of command-controls, just to open a door. Not to mention, you would need more keyboards than you could surround yourself with to do so. That is not even the hardest issue of trying to port VR-only to KBM. Imagine if hand simulator also had legs and a highly interactive environment that you need to navigate through and use.

I recently got an Index and I'm moving through a lot of the higher rated games. I have to say, not one of them has come close to the overall package of Alyx. Definitely in my top 8 gaming experiences ever. What a buttery smooth immersive VR experience dripping with HL goodness. Nail on head.

Be sure to include Asgard's Wrath on your list. It's too different to compare to Alyx in my opinion, but it's the best action/RPG VR experience I've had on the Index to date. It's a lot of fun.
@MrMarcusIndia Жыл бұрын
@@g.lowenklee2268 I've heard that Asgard's Wrath 2 is great but makes you spend too much time doing pointless stuff in order to pad out the game time. I'm tired of doing this in general games; give me 20 hours of quality instead of 60 hours of fetch quests any day, because I work 12h a day and only have a couple of hours for games in the evening. But on VR even more so, since gaming on VR _feels_ longer than on a screen. VR can make you sick when you first get into it, but it gets much better over time. In addition to that, all the footage they are showing here is from a VR headset, which means it jutters and jerks around based on the users head. When *you* are the one inside the headset, you don't notice these things because it's base on your own heads movement, so you won't get sick from that. Really, unless you try on a VR headset and test it out, it is impossible to adequately describe how it looks and feels

That's because the video records all the movement the user head makes. Your body is always moving even if slightly, so your vision is also always moving, you don't notice this because well, you are the one moving, you are used to those small movements. Watching another persons vision is, obviously, going to feel weird. and really noticeable. Hence why everyone who've used VR will tell you "Try it. "if you're a VR fan" - I disagree, this is not about being a VR fan, this is about making you a VR fan. It really shows how much better are single player FPS story driven shooters in VR. Yes, games like Doom do belong in the flat screen world still, the more skill based shooters, but for all story driven games this is the future. I just can't easily go back to flat screen. A Call Of Duty game played like this would be insane, and I don't even like call of duty, but the situation you'd be thrown in, played in VR, would make your heart race all the damn time. And you wouldn't need endless waves of enemy soldiers because once you're IN the game, even a short fight against 6 soldiers feels like an eternal life or death situation.

I'm playing at medium fidelity on a quest 1 headset using virtual desktop. Playing in roomscale, with physical turning and crouching, it's pretty awesome. To me it's basically as good as Half Life 3. I mean who thought we were going to get a new Half Life game, period? I thought they gave up with it. For atmosphere and level design it's probably the best of all the VR games, although combat isn't as fun as Half Life 2 or other action dedicated vr games (Robo-Recall, Sairento etc.) but combat is only a part of the game and is extremely grounded in the universe it created so it works well. Can't believe it runs so good through a quest and a budget pc.

This works great on the Oculus Quest ($399) and should also be just fine on something like the Samsung Odyssey (~$230). No need to drop $1000 on an Index to dip your toes into VR unless you’re Scrooge McDuck IRL

How many "dark sections" (I mean the dark levels where you only see with your flashlight) does this game have? I finished the first one and now there is an other one. The game is awesome but im not sure if I can continue playing if the game has many of these "dark sections" because they stress me like crazy.

You put on the headset and jump in and you’re like “whoa this is so cool.” But if the game isn’t fun or engaging, it’s still boring after a while. I think VR is better suited to hangouts online with friends and stuff like that. Playing board games in a virtual space.

@@AlternateKek That's true. Its just that when the game was announced, I heard many VR guys say that this would be "the game that makes VR mainstream." I gotta be honest, a fun game "for current VR owners" doesn't sound like a major pull.

I have an i7-4790k OCed to 4.50ghz and an RTX 2070 it runs smooth on high preset with my Rift S, this is the VR that's gonna change how people think about VR games, Vavle is taking VR in the right path the best thing about this game is that you can use smooth motion and "shift" at the same time (hold right thumbstick downwards), it would have been perfect if we could change it to teleport cuz shift makes me nauseous lol

I never looked at half life 2 as a horror game except for ravenholm, and in ravenholm I have to have a friend in the room with me while I play through it even to this day.
