An alternative ending I didn't hear you guys discuss yet is that's also possible that she's still in the basement dying and hallucinates the whole escape. When she gets outside you can see her phone doesn't get any service, however that doesn't make any sense since she's outside the building and outside of the metal walls. On top of that they discussed earlier in the movie that people can hallucinate when they're near the point of dying. It's possible she's still there in the basement bleeding out and hallucinating the other sister coming back alive to save her and her escaping

I appreciated the fact that the movie didn’t go super cliche and have religion be the bad guy, for the most part. Mormons are so easy to make fun of but they made the Mormon protagonists strong, likable leads. The message at the end wasn’t “religion bad!” or “Aren’t religious people stupid and silly?!” I appreciated the refreshing take. I figured the leads were going to reject their religion and beliefs by the end. And this is coming from a secular, “non-believer”. Wasn’t raised religious, nor am I whatsoever. But I appreciate the personal journey we take in finding God, whoever or whatever that may be for the individual.
@kukuhimanputraraharja808418 күн бұрын
i'm also tired of the current modern era media often portraying religions with tropes like "they're actually the bad guys no matter what/they're useless when people need them/they're irrelevant". disregarding the fact that many civilizations throughout history and to this day had been helped to maintain order and prosperity through religions though not without some downsides.

My only complaint with this film is grants character not immediately dying when he gets stabbed in the throat. The minute he pulled that out he would’ve collapsed to the floor and that’s the end but no he doesn’t and then to make things even more dramatic the friend who clearly is very dead by not just the throat but gets an artery cut on the arm somehow has enough strength to pick up a heavy board and swing it with enough might to kill grant just to then immediately die. It reminds me of that villain at the end of the new scream movie who got stabbed in the eye but somehow didn’t die only to die by a tv. It’s just a bit much for me anyway

I’ve just watched this movie yesterday evening and had loads of fun with it. I took the ending slightly differently. When Hugh Grant gets smashed in a head he’s basically milliseconds before cutting the other girls throat. They’ve discussed before that moments before death your brain makes you see what you want to see and this is why she saw herself escaping and her dead friend helping her out which is highly unlikely. Then the butterfly in my opinion was supposed to hint at that all of this isn’t real. But hey I’m not Hugh Grant, believe whatever you wish haha

So to discuss some of the spoilers stuff........................ There technically was a wife and a blueberry pie. That was all part of his manipulation. "Do you still believe there's a wife and a pie baking despite all the evidence to the contrary." And despite that, it was real. The wife being... not really a "wife" wife. Additionally, Paxton was played as innocent and Barnes as more of a skeptic, but they were both hardline religious believers in their own way. For one Barnes chose the believer door and Paxton chose the disbelief door and it was actually Barnes that convinced Paxton to choose the believer door with her. Additionally Barnes wasn't born into the faith, so she willingly chose to join the faith and as a result she was have had to overcome her own cognitive dissonance prior to the events of the movie. When they were using the fast food chains as an analogy for religion, it was Paxton who was open to other fast food chains and it's because of Barnes that they do not discuss Taco Bell. Lastly, it was Paxton that figured out what happened with the prophet. Paxton only came off as more "innocent" because they were both wielding different fight/flight methods that women use when confronted by aggressive men; Paxton was being congenial and amicable to try to disarm him from aggressive actions and Barnes was being confrontational to disarm him academically and intellectually. In the end though, you find out that both women were extremely detail oriented and paid attention to the situation more than they let on.

38:36 Why are you putting jump scare noises in your movie reviews? Same thing happened with smile 2

I don’t think she escaped at all. I think the end is Sister Pax in the afterlife.

So why did he switch the key to her coat? Why did he choose her? How did he know she was going to figure out everything and end up down there in those rooms? What was he going to do with her? None of this is adding up for me. What was the point?

Cause he manipulated her to do those things along pre determined paths. She didn’t actually choose to do that. That’s his whole message of the one true religion is “control”

he knew out of the two women her faith was real and wanted to break it, he already knew he was going to kill the other girl (she was on birth control, wasn’t 100 devout in faith) but he wanted to break Sister Paxton.

If I need to describe AJS to someone I'm like it's a guy and he gets angry a lot and it's 3 of them and they do funny parodies some questionable movie and tv reviews and he's got a broken ass AC. This is one of the rare occasions when we have film in the UK before US so I've seen it already and I loved it too. When OJ said it was well phased, you can have films when two people just talk and the conversation is dynamic and well written you will never feel the length of the film like when I watched a movie called Interview from 2007 where Steve Buscemi just talks to Sienna Miller for hour and half and when I had like 15 minutes left I was like OMG I wanna watch another 10 hours of this. Anyway I'm religious person (currently with some doubts and struggles with my fate) but this film was not even close to offending me. You know what offended me? Knock Knock I still want my money back for this.... ok I'm mumbling .... go watch it. It was great. 38:17 Would you like to hear about our lord and Savior Rakanishu? HAHAHA
