SO fun story: My whole family likes Stephen King stuff, so we went to see IT 2 in the theatre. There was two other families in the showing for about 15 people total. The previews were all Disney and kiddy so we were a little confused, and then the Lion King started playing. All of us sat there for about three minutes until we finally agreed it wasn't a long preview and someone went to get staff. He came back with a worker who eventually shuffled us all into the room where The Lion King was supposedly playing, cleared out a mop and bucket, then in a few minutes our movie (IT 2) started. Funniest part? We all agreed seeing the beginning of The Lion King was scarier.

I actually saw Climax in theaters and LOVED it. It's choreography is breathtaking and so is the cinematography and on the big screen it is a sight to behold. All the actors are actually dancers but I thought they did a good enough job. The director is Gaspar Noe, the man behind Irreversible and Enter The Void which are both awesome. I think he has a psychologically draining style/feel to his films but like it. Guess it's a taste thing but I was mezmerized by the movie.

It means you can't comprehend what a lot of other viewers have, which shows your brain is not functioning at full capacity. I get it if you didn't like the far out, over the top characters and style in it, but it's kind of like Sin City, both based on over the top noir comics, where this just focuses on a more human John Wick. But maybe you didn't like or understand the style of Sin City either, then it's perfectly understandable you wouldn't like this.

Unpopular Opinion: Climax was awesome. Saw it at the cinema and it was a hell of a ride. Some people left, mostly older people who weren't prepared for such a nausea inducing movie. Most reviews were favorable, and it's got a good score on IMDb. But it's one of those movies, you'll like it or hate it...I personally hated "Martyrs" but there are a lot of people who really enjoyed it, so I guess that's the same thing with Climax.

I liked Climax, I'm a big Gaspar Noe fan and I have a big appreciation for the experimental nature of the film. But at the same time I'll admit that I have a soft spot for pretentious crap that would be borderline insufferable for most people. Maybe I'm just getting old. But that's OK, I'm having fun, so no regrets here.

I HATED it on first watch because I didn't know what to expect. Couldn't understand the characters' dialogue, which ENRAGED me, but I understand that it makes sense within the setting. The plot is relatively pointless and it's "misery p*rn", which I have never appreciated, except for maybe Requiem For A Dream. But that was a lot due to the soundtrack and excellent performances. But I still had to detach myself from the movie. Same with ANY Safdie Brothers movie I watched. Hate them all with a deep passion, because it's MISERY P*RN!! (Oh, and same with "The Lighthouse" btw) BUT.... Climax is unique.... Because I couldn't stop thinking about it. 😅 And now, I actually kind of like it. I understand now what the characters were saying, it was just very difficult. And I appreciate the small little things in there that aren't MP, like the soundtrack, the choreography (even though I detest those little bunny hops they do once or twice that look GAY *AF* !!! 😅 I HATED those moves). There definitely is stuff to like here and I've kinda turned around on Climax....

I like that he kept a bad film on the list even though it involved his cousin. And one that we didn’t even know he saw. It may seem small but it really does keep you realizing how unbiased Joe is. It’s very rare to see people with that attitude anymore and it’s one of the reasons why I still respect his opinions and watch his content to this day, after years. I must strongly disagree with Joe about Climax. The director, Gaspar Noe, is know for making film like this and intentionally makes them to get the watcher in a bad state. The film is a cautionary tale about drinks at clubs or events. An incident similar to this happen on the set of Titanic. No one died luckily, but his films are meant to be experiences on violence and drugs. The actors in the film were real dancers and there were only two professional actors. The conversations with everyone felt like real conversations and this party felt like a legit event. The ending is abrupt because things like this are often as so in real life. Instead of a three act structure like most films, this film is just the climax of the story. I can see why they didn't like it, french extremist films tend to be more art house. I watched it and thought it was thrilling. It's definitely not for everyone, but compared to Noe's other films it is more tame and less extreme. It's definitely worth a watch at least.
