This video covers an introduction to angular displacement and velocity, the first on a series on rotational mechanics. I also cover why the radian is used as the SI unit for angles

360 degrees, the 60 second min, and the 60 min hour are based on how ancient Sumerians counted using their fingers over 6000 years ago. Each finger has 3 bones so a single hand containing 4 fingers(not thumb) had 12 nodes that could be pointed to using the thumb. On the other hand you have 5 digits(including thumb) that could be used to tally each set of 12 that you reached. With 2 hands you could count 5 sets of 12 all the way up to 60. Everything was BASE 60 in their calculations.

This is the best explanation of angular velocity that I have found on the internet. The direction in z in particular is what has thrown me off, at this stage I just don't see the point of using the inwards our outwards z except for saying whether it's turning clockwise or counterclockwise. As well as satisfying the definition of velocity which is that it has a direction. But it isn't actually moving in that direction, it's more the case of using a direction for the purpose of observation.

Why is the the direction angular velocity defined the way it is? Can you show that such a quantity really exists in that direction?
@shaandutta3541
@shaandutta3541 5 ай бұрын
think of it like this, the centripetal acceleration is towards the axis of rotation now take the component, it points upwards, and then take the acceleration(net) and take its sin components, youll find that it coincides, that is the actual centripetal force in application, which is why its upwards, this is balanced by the reverse axial vector provided from the other side, thats how it remains in plane while still accelerating, now i dont know how much of this is accurate but this is how i visualize it to be in motion, but if you want mathematical answer then it's simply cross product

It is not clear why if there is a rotational movement there is a perpendicular vector. After all, the linear velocity is a vector tangent to the circle and it is not perpendicular but on the same surface of the circle of the disc
