In my opinion, Peter's reaction to what happened is entirely reasonable. He has a daughter and wife he's gotta take care of. He can't put them in danger by going with Miles, they might use the baby as leverage, or they might take his wife. There's a multitude of horrible things that could happen if he isn't in the clear with the Spider Society. As long as he appears to be on their side, they should have no reason to suspect him of anything and he can be an inside man working for team Miles.

Peter b Parker’s universe was him when he was miserable, divorced, and depressed. His encounter with miles changed him, In which he himself altered his world by taking miles advice. Miguel altered another world’s canon by taking the place of his dead self from that world. Which led to an incursion. Peter B changed his own canon instead of another version of spidey doing that.

Mayday is the result of Miles giving Peter the courage to turn his life around and try again with MJ. Parents fear for their children's safety. Peter, with his trauma of loss as a Spider-man and knowing what happened to Miguel's family and all those other Spider-men, may well fear for Mayday's safety more than most parents. He also knows that Miles may be an anomaly whose actions can lead to destruction. Mayday herself may be an anomaly! As a loving father, it is understandable that he keeps her close all the time and watches out for her like a hawk. I pity the fool who will ever try to hurt her :-)

Decent theory, but the first movie kind of debunks it. Throughout the first movie, Peter B. makes it clear that he doesn’t want kids, but after mentoring Miles and helping him become Spider-Man, he wants kids. When he returns to his universe, he shows up at MJ’s house and is ready. I think that he went to help Miguel and that’s all. Maybe he was one of his first recruits for Spider Society. I also think that Mayday is just his kid and he cares for her. And maybe the “Isn’t that right, Peter?” is just him revealing that he was there during that moment trying to help him.

The actual explanation is because Peter is unemployed since he decided to dedicate his time to take care of Mayday to see what abilities she has and because she would be a handful for MJ or a babysitter alone. I wanna say yes, however this wouldnt explain then why peters death, which was caused by intervention from miles, didnt collapse miles' universe. I think your idea has some good anchor points though, i think that the spiderman thats "supposed to be in that universe" (aka, peter has to be in his born dimention, and miguel his). The problem is that like miles, miguel is a unique spiderman, and its very very VERY hard to find other Miguel spidermen. Theres also another theory that I really like, and thats that miguels continued abcence from his universe caused an incursion. In which his old and new universe collided. But because he had the watch, it kept him from colliding and glitching, which is why he was able to smoothly land in peters universe after it fell apart.

I think Miles can break the cannon because his existence itself breaks the norms of reality. If Disney has to sell off the MCU to Sony to avoid being purchased by Apple, (I’d prefer if Nintendo bought them to use their filmmaking experience to do a Smash Bros Cinematic Universe), and Sony wanted to make Spider-Verse canon to the MCU, there is a way. The TVA destroyed Miguel’s new universe, and Miles occurred after the sacred timeline was undone.

for the last part, that doesn't work when we have doc ock, moon knight, Ben Reilly, Hobie, and other non peter parkers all have their events happen, plus as shown in the web machine, it draws your universe from the spider bite, not your own DNA, hence why the machine scanned the spiders DNA and thus sent miles to earth 42. so anyone who gets bit by the spider of a universe is a spiderman and has the events. hell even Gwen Stacy isn't a peter variant because peter existed in her universe. only cases in which the statement of "the events are tied to peter, not spiderman", are true, is characters that are explicitly from a universe where peter parker hasn't/will never/can never exist, like spiderham, he is peter porker so another can't exist, or peni, she is the variant so another can't exist.

Honestly I feel he keeps mayday around because she has powers but also to keep her from being hunted. Clearly word will get out. I'm sure MJ would want Peter B to protect Mayday. Especially if she's not alive for some reason. Miguel was a father too and as long as it's not a cannon event: no rules are broken.

Fun speculation here: maybe the big result of this show is the ending of the Canon-event? In some ways, the Canon of Spider-man always suffering traumatic loss is the main driver of this trilogy. It drives Spider-gwen, Miguel, Peter B. Parker and all the other Spider-men. Miles is the one who may break the spell of the Canon once and for all, freeing all the Spider-men and giving them the chance to shape their own lives. He already did so for Peter B. Parker and for Pavitr Prabhakar. And in a way also for Spider-Gwen, as she starts to let people into her life again, Miles most of all. He has even inspired them to team up against Miguel and essentially say "F-ck the Canon"! It is a well-known trope in storytelling: the Messiah, the Chosen one, the liberator, the prophet who unites his people, ends the curse/ doom/ oppression and brings freedom.

I mean switching MayDay did happen in the Spidergirl: Daughter of Spider-Man comics. She was kidnapped as a baby by the Goblin cult and rescued by her father in a final showdown with the original green goblin that lost Peter his leg and ultimately forced him to retire as Spider-Man. 16-17 years later another May shows up not just with all the same spider powers that May inherited, but symbiote powers as well. Obviously May was cloned but who is the original May?

The theory you said I don’t believe: I think looking at the movie Mayday is 2 things to the viewer: 1 she is a Spider getting on the job training for when she gets older be a great SpiderGirl and 2 she is the physical manifestation of the viewer of Across the Spiderverse child that is with you as you go through life trials as motivation to get through your journey.

I believe there could be SOMETHING to this theory, but I don't think it's spot on (no pun intended). Peter has already stated that he only had Mayday because he met Miles, so he understands the kind of ripple effect that can come from one small change from the norm. Knowing that and knowing what Miguel went through, Peter greatly appreciates what he has now and doesn't want to risk letting anything happen that might cause him to lose his new family, like further anomalies. He wants everything henceforth to go along the proper lines to maintain the current status quo.

I'm usually not the first person to say "that's far fetched" but this is far fetched, regardless both Miles and Mayday should be destroying their universes just by existing according to Miguel's logic, clearly neither of them are doing this so what Miguel understands about how canon works is misguided and incorrect based off of only one scenario, there's plenty of evidence that shows Miguel is wrong beyond Miles being opposed to his way of things.

I just assumed that A) he hasn’t found a reliable babysitter who can both be trusted to keep his identity secret and B) he didn’t think it was going to turn into a massive Spider-Lynching, he just heard Miles would be there and figured it would be his only chance to introduce her to Miles. As far as universal stability I think there’s probably a lot less evidence than Miguel would like to admit; I mean, what, is he going to come up with a list if things that might destroy universes and go around testing them in random worlds to see what happens? At best he likely checked countless infinite worlds to see what was ‘always’ there, but since he’s running the stuff out of Alchemax 2099? That’s probably going to be skewed towards finding Spider-Man, since the other interdimensional travel caused by an Alchemax experiment locked into things similar to whatever you threw in the portal and Miggy sure ain’t sending versions of Captain America universe hopping.

I think that’s a reach, in the first movie he was super scared of being a parent but in this one it shows that not only did he overcome that fear but he brings her everywhere to show her the ropes (or more accurately webs) of being a spider person.

Crackpot theories, but fun I’m pretty sure he just brings her because he’s obsessed with his baby daughter like all good Dad’s are. Plus one of the coolest things about Spiderverse is how faithful they are to the comic source material. Mayday being raised knowing her Spider abilities, and with the family structure Peter was denied, ends up making her one of the strongest and most capable Spiders when she gets older.

Also, as a parent, Mayday might just drive MJ insane when being watched alone. My little girl was an insane toddler. Imagine having to scrape your child off the ceiling with a broom or explain to daycare workers that the nasty bruise is because she decided to try swinging in the house and hit a doorframe. Mommy says no juice? Mommy can chill on the wall for a little bit while Mayday raids the fridge (and I know the answer is “just take the web shooters away” but where tf is MJ gonna hide them from a child that can climb into any space?). No… the Spiderman that we saw wasn’t Peter B. It was the Spider-Man of that universe… if that universe is gone then that Spider-Man MIGHT be gone as well… or maybe Miguel MIGHT have been able to bring him to the universe of Spider-Man 2099 and they might be able to put him in universe 42 (since there was supposed to be a Spider-Man there (depending on what happened to the Peter of that universe) OR 42 miles and/or his uncle have to step up and become heroes 🤷‍♂️

If the Spiderverse was connected to only Peter and that's why Miles is "special" then the entire plot of Across the Spiderverse wouldn't exist because Miles (and Gwen) wouldn't have to worry about their Dads either dying or not dying and therefore collapsing their universes.

To bad this theory falls apart. Gewn isn't a Peter either so it's not about being a 'Varient of Peter' it's about being a 'Varient of Spiderman'. If you pay attention to The Spot during his back story when he gets the spider, that universes miles was about to be bit in that flashback but it didn't happen cause the spider was taken. The spider was meant to bite a miles so it found one but in the wrong universe. The universe corrected itself by killing its original Spiderman and replacing it with the new, keeping it together because a miles was always meant to be a spider man. Looking at that it is most likely that our miles was always meant to become prowler. His dad becomes chief dies and he is taken in by his uncle and boom. But that didn't happen cause he was bit. While his counter part who was supposed to be Spiderman became the prowler... you can say by moving the spider The Spot traded the two miles destiny's.
