This is a video discussing the phenomenon of Sean Strickland and his fanbase and how various figures (Israel Adesanya, Dricus Du Plessis and Jon Anik) have dealt with that whirlwind

I like Anik despite him being a corporate company-man type. That old-school version of corporatism at least included an ethos on quality. Anik is always ready for a tires promo, but it's easy to see he also truly loves the sport. I find that balance interesting. I dislike almost every moment of DC and Rogan's "commentary". They just tell off-topic old-man stories. I'm nearly 43, I understand the urge, but they suck and I'm tired of their shit. Anik is fine, but if he wants to go I don't blame him, the culture of the sport is in constant flux. I continue to pay attention because I am a lifelong fan of the martial arts and the UFC has incentivized a rapid increase in skill. Watching Payton Talbott makes it clear the sport is entering a new era where there has been enough time for more naturally gifted athletes to come into mma. It's still just the beginning, we're nowhere near the ceiling.

what does gayton talbot have to do with naturally gifted athletes ?
@user-wk4ee4bf8gАй бұрын
@@James-Specter Pause the fight whenever Payton is doing stuff. His form is absolutely perfect all the time. That is not true for most fighters at the highest level of the sport right now. A lot of them were drawn to fighting because of a hard life, nothing else fit. Payton just thought it seemed cool after finishing high school. He's already better than most in a highly competitive division after a relatively short time training. That's gifted. Most of the gifted athletes of the world have not started coming into mma yet because the financial incentive isn't yet as good as other sports. I get the feeling your Gayton comment comes from him painting your nails because you have surpressed homosexual desires so any reference to men doing anything typically represented as feminine makes you uncomfortable. If you weren't insecure about all that there wouldn't be any reason to care. So, you're funny to me, a sort of simpleton in terms of self-awareness.

Annik strikes me as a sensitive robot. A fast talking-head with feelings. He’ll do a good job, is professional, and when it comes time to kick back he’ll toss around some f bombs as to say “I’m cool and relatable like you f’n guys”. All of this happens after he lets you know he’s from Boston for the 19th time

Some genuine life wisdom brought on us by MMW here. Don't get too involved in internet drama. For what it's worth, I think it's a shame Anik is getting hate, I think he's one of the better commentators, I feel like he really cares about doing his research into every fight, sure he can be biased (it's almost impossible not to be) but not as bad as DC or Joegan, and I can't remember what fight it was but he beautifully corrected Dominick Cruz who was talking all about the visuals of the fight because one fighter was bleeding, reminding Cruz of the fact that he shouldn't need to be reminded of; that only counts for the round in which the damage was done, not the whole fight. Either way, throwing some appreciation out there for Anik, and of course MixedMollyWhoppery, one of the best MMA channels on here.

Dricus is an intelligent man imo, I don’t recall what Sean said to him to bully him, but he knew he was upping the ante referring to the childhood trauma and that it might trigger him. His trash talk in general appears calculated to get under the opponents skin while being provoked enough or expressed sufficiently politely that he can maintain a degree of justification. Credit to Sean for still fighting well though. Edit: I liked the turn into the insidious and combative nature of social media

I’m pretty sure it was when he fought Ilia Topuria. He was right , Ilia slept him. That’s not even my main point. My point is he’s a public figure that does podcasts and works for a wild sport.
