In 1986, I was 12 years old, had a Valterra skateboard and didn't really know what really good skateboarding looked like. We lived Louisiana, so the videos took a while to get to us, and at that time you had to rely on your friends getting a VHS copy from another friend before you actually got to see it! So It was probably 1988 before I saw this video and we all probably have different emotions or memories of how we felt when first watching it but we all probably agree we loved it! Watching this short film on the 30th anniversary fills me with such happiness. The guys I have admired for so many years seem vulnerable, older and yet they offer no regrets they just get out there and skate! When my little girl is a bit older, I look forward to showing her The Search for Animal Chin and hope that she understands the message behind the film. Thank you Stacy, Lance, Tommy, Mike, Steve and Tony. You took me back to age 14 and a sense of simple enjoyment that I hope the younger generations can achieve. Kudos!!

Man, it’s been that long?! My first “pro” skateboard was a Tony Hawk mini...tracker trucks, rib bones, tail and a nose bone. Man I wanted that board to last forever. These guys were my idols. I still get all excited when I think of those days. And I still look at curbs the same way. A few years ago I was going into the Shoprite to buy some food and outside were some skaters. Me being like 40 at the time I saw them just like me and my friends those 25 years ago. One kid bumped into me said “sorry sir..” and then asked me for some change! I tried to stike up a convo with them about skating. They couldn’t believe that an old guy like me had broken in the very curbs they were skating on. Me and my friends would buy candles inside the grocery store and wax those curbs up and grind them til they were skateworthy. They looked at me like I was some kook. It was kinda sad really, I expected a different reaction kinda like “hey cool!” I walked away after giving the one kid some of my change feeling the shortsightedness of their youth. We were little shits in those days too! Always getting in peoples way, scaring old ladies, getting kicked out of parking lots. We thought we’d never grow up and skate forever. Some things never change.

don't let that stop you. I used to skate in February when there were still plenty of snow, salt, slop and everything else. LOL, who am I kidding? Seeing videos like this - despite them being 1000x better than I ever was - makes me want to re-learn everything (and probably acquire another 8 or 9 concussions. )

John Doe I know I shouldn't be complaining about the weather but it's hard to be motivated to skate when I get a mean indian tear after skating for like 5 minutes, then there's the fact I can't feel my feet when it's cold out and there's just a bunch of autumn to deal with, all the crap falling out of trees to add onto the broken glass, pebbles and grime that's just part of the occupational hazard of skating through a crusty city. I'll deal with it but I am not gonna be a happy camper especially when winter rolls around

@@happilysingle8385 Maybe not on top, but they've still got some skills. It's mostly because of their age they don't go mad and try extreme tricks. Younger people can coz they heal faster. So those guys could probably still bust out insane tricks (and i mean for 50 year old's, some tricks in this video are pretty sick if you think about it), but the injury isn't worth it sort of.

My teenage years when my skating was exploding as I learned so much on a daily basis. Here I am now at 45 years old, and smiling ear to ear watching this. It brings back soooo many memories of how many times myself, my brother and friends would watch this and then get so pumped up to go out skating. Man, those were the days. The Bones Brigade and Animal Chin will live on forever.

Steve Caballero's board was the first skateboard I ever owned. It was Silver with a Blue Dragon on the base deck. Damn I miss that board.

I don't know what happened between to skateboarding between the Dogtown era and the Bones Brigade era, but thank God these boys took it to a whole different level of skateboarding. Im Stacy's age, and to see what the guys are doing on these ramps is absolutely awesome! It brings back memories of my youth!

The great thing about skating was challenging yourself, challenging your friends and companionship. The skaters in my school fought everyone back in the day, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a skater fight another. Decades later I’m still friends with them. Loved this video.

Im 37 now, I bought the Search for Animal Chin in the mid 90's at a clearance bin in Blockbuster Video and it changed my entire view of skateboarding. Just an amazing one of a kind gem that made a massive influence in skateboarding culture.

Back then in 1987 we borrowed this movie on VHS cassette in our skate shop, gave our ID as a deposit, because this cassette was only available there once and we watched it countless times. That was the best and most beautiful time in my life!
