For sure!! Everyone wants to be a farmer until it’s -20 🙃. Honestly though, it’s turned into a muddy mess and we are missing the cold!

Love the full on descriptive videos you both create! You really show how much hard work goes into having a functioning homestead farm. It's amazing how you balance it all!! I pray to have as strong of a team-mate/co-parent/partner/friend/love as you two have! You're all so amazing. Thank you.

I'm out twice a day to give warm water to my chickens because even with a heater their water is freezing. I can't wait for the cold to go away. One of the reasons we left Nebraska and moved to Tennessee is the cold and now we were at a -3 last night in M'boro. Our son in NE was at a -21 and that didn't even count the wind chill. God bless y'all and keep warm! Use all of the cow poop to make hot beds that will be compost when the beds are done.

Yes feeding our animals take a little out when doing chores in the dead of winter. It takes us about two hours twice a day to do our chores, when you have many animals it does take time. We have 6 wild mustangs not wild anymore, 1 wild burro not wild anymore. 4 roasters, 3 ducks, 23 laying hens, one hen turkey. We have 8 breeding meat rabbits, 4 breeding bucks 27 feed out bunnies, two litter due this weekend, two litters due next month we breed two per month. We have 5 breeding Alpine bucks, one ram, 12 Alpine doe's 10 are bred 8 are due in less then 4.5 weeks. We start kidding February 15th. We are always busy here. We bought our farm in 2020 that's was a complete wooded land with a house and one small barn, we have been working hard each year making our small farm in the woods or homestead. We have a few fruit trees, grapes, garden were we raise and grow our own food. Thank you for sharing. Till next time. God bless

18:24 I hope you don’t take offense at this, but I can’t tell you how nice it is to see glimpses of your slightly messy home. Real people make messes and put things in temporary places to deal with later etc and it’s nice to see that you guys are ordinary people with ordinary cleaning and organization levels in your home. Some homestead channels use almost a show studio for their videos and it gives the impression that they keep their home spotless and staged at all times.

No offense at all. Our home nor property aren't pristine at all but filled with love and chaos. I'm glad that comes through :). Always a work in progress!

Last week was -41C and so I could identify with your chores. Our hens huddled together and went on strike. No eggs for a week. Cows did just fine but frostbite with the milk cows’ udders are a worry. Good your barn builder kept the hydrant indoors. Ours is outside the barn (argh) and frozen. So we haul pails of water from the house.
@FromScratchFarmstead10 ай бұрын
Oh boy! You got your workout with hauling all of those buckets!! Glad your animals are all doing ok!

Stella is the best! Yes, it's a jug waterer and a lifesaver in the winter. Here's a review post we did on it. fromscratchfarmstead.com/jug-waterer-review/

Buurrrr, looks so cold there! I live in Louisiana and have no clue what it is like to maintain a homestead in those temps! Thanks for sharing, I really liked this winter vlog style video! Oh, did Thimble's milk freeze in pale when milking?
@FromScratchFarmstead10 ай бұрын
Good question! Any splattered milk on the side of the pale froze instantly but the bulk of it was fine. Thanks for watching!

Do you know which breeds of your chickens lay eggs in the winter?? I think I heard leghorn in the video. It’s 40 degrees here and mine are like nope! Thanks for your content!!
@thatguy58019 ай бұрын
Did you know chickens can just eat snow for their water, like all wild birds do... My grandpa did it this way for 50 years every winter, when heated water bowls didn't even exist, and it takes 0$ and zero cost to fill a bowl of snow twice a day, and if the power goes out, who cares, its snow. I've been doing this for 3 winters with mine, I use to have a heated bowl but even that would freeze at the top, and they last 1-2 seasons. A bowl of snow is forever and costs nothing.
