I've never played the older games so I don't know, but if it was as hard to befriend the other villagers as it was to befriend Sable, I honestly don't think I'd play it as much. I like giving my villagers stuff to put in their house so I could match their decorations to their aesthetic, talking to them every day for a week straight without the ability to time travel sounds like hell. 🤣

The thing with New Horizons is that while you may have a lot of customization options, it just gets stale because the villagers are literally soulless. They simply repeat the same phrases and have no personality whatsoever. In contrast, there's tons of great dialogue in the older games, getting fewer with each entry. For someone new to the series it might be okay, since you have so many ways to be creative, but The original had a lot more charm in terms of dialogue and I'd simply rather play the GC or DS versions. I feel like new leaf is a good middle ground.

I'm probably on the other end of the spectrum here, I grew up with the Gamecube one and I don't think I'd ever go back from New Horizons. They have a whole trade network of other players (who were all very generous I might add) and just the online trading alone is fun and addicting - and allowed you to get literally anything you wanted without waiting or time traveling. I was also able to create a dark fantasy town where no inch of the map wasn't used in some way, there's just way too many great things I'd miss.

I will say as sad as this is in only just experienced toy day for the first time. I delivered 2 gifts and was like this is fun! But eunice stating she sees what I am doing, cares and is playing santa for me made me cry after feeling shunned by my own family this xmas. So for me i dont think I will ever think of the villagers as soulless. It also made me forgive eunice for drawing a 1 during higher/lower after showing me a 2.

Sometimes I would play Animal Crossing in between my games that I wouldn't record daily (except for Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness because I wanted to redo my story in this instance.) Update: I'm officially doing to redo my LP of both Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, and since my team for Pokémon Colosseum were pre-planned, and my team for Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness weren't planned yet, so teams will be different for these games. Mentally, I would be doing Animal Crossing in between my playtime due to the long Post-Game, but it's fine, because I'm doing both games.

In my town of Stardew, Cheri got into a fight with Eunice over something. Thank goodness the rivalry ended when Eunice got back into the house and I delivered her camera. And of course, I plan to add Abdallah and Jaiden, and my preferred outfit is noble style. Update: I added Jaiden and gave her a personality like Sunny, although her chibiness gives her a speciality. Another update: I'll probably be going through all of the game here with my Player character, with Jaiden helping me to upgrade my town.

I grew up playing Wild World and I definitely miss the friendships/rivalries I made. I also kind of miss the subtle "world building" that you could get by interacting with the characters. Obviously you can still get it from Sable and now Brewster, buut there's really not all that much you can get out of the other NPCs. Like the love triangle with the mail birds??? C'mon that was great. I still distinctly remember discovering the whole trade chain you had to go through with giving the massage chair to Tortimer for a special item. Or donating to that other town and getting to hear updates about it. There was a lot under the surface tbh!

The thing about the Gamecube game is that it was actually designed so that you would run out of things to do. Rather than playing long sessions every day, you were supposed to play for less than an hour a day, but most days for many months.

As far as villagers in New Horizons go, I will say there are some gems you can find. 80% of the villagers on my island are pretty forgettable, but Marina the octopus and Maddie the dog are the exceptions sporting the best personalities and dialogue. Marina is the sweetest thing ever and Maddie is "totes" adorable. You just gotta find the right ones.

Another aspect of the GC AC I miss is being able to consistently get chores/requests from the villagers--it's the first option when talking to anyone! I find myself really lighting up when one of my ACNH villagers asks me to deliver something once in a blue moon, or I find a missing item on the ground and have to figure out who it belongs to. I felt this mechanic really added to better relationship building opportunities with the villagers in the first game.

What hooked me about Animal Crossing for Nintendo GameCube was that occasionally you would dig up NES games that you could place in your room and actually play, and also transfer any one game to your Game Boy Advance where they would be playable until you shut off the power and they cleared from the GBA memory. There was a bunch of hidden games like Mike Tyson’s punch out, and the original legend of Zelda that you had to get using Action Replay (like a GameShark or GameGenie) to unlock.

I actually miss the villagers having more of a personality as well. I don't own new horizons sincs I can't afford a switch but I do still play new leaf sometimes. Even in that game the villagers are toned down a lot and repeat themselves much more often. In wild world you actually had to make an effort to make friends and it felt like those friends are really interested in you. No matter the hour or how many times you talked to them, they rarely repeated anything. They asked your opinion on designs, outfits, relationships of other villagers, gave you random items or clothes as gifts. They'd let you know if you become annoying or look bad in those clothes. They just seemed.. more alive. Like a little community and not just like a bunch of dolls you can push around. I do miss that.

I even had the guide magazine back in the day that told you about villagers, all the festivals and holidays, how much items cost etc. After playing all of them through the years though I do think ACNH is probably my favorite out of them all because of the creativity aspect but I wish I had the durability of the old tools.

While I do hate the short convos with the acnh villagers. I never really cared for villagers in general regardless of the game so honestly it doesn’t bother me. However I never really got super rude or sassy villagers before so I totally see why people would want them in New Horizons

In New Horizons, each personality trait of villagers always say the same thing. Yeah some things could be different but they mostly use the same sentences. I never knew about any other AC games. I found out about Pocket Camp while New Horizons was coming out & I sort of like Pocket Camp better. It's like an adventure but New Horizons is all about competing on who has the best island design or layout and getting up to 5 stars. It's annoying and doesn't feel like a game at all. They gave us an update but this update really sucks. I'm not even going to hold my tongue back on this one. I'm severely pissed, especially since they claim this will be the one AND only big update. Like, they didn't even try to give any life nor realistic dialogues for the villagers. The new villagers' personalities are just as bland as the old ones we have. It's ridiculous. They gave us nothing we asked for or wanted. It's nice to have the things we do have, but I wanted to be able to have a reason to turn on my Switch & play ACNH. Happy Home Paradise is nice but I'd rather do something else with villagers, instead of always designing. It's pointless. The 2.0 update could've been better but it really just sucks.

I think the character that broke me most in wild world was Wolfgang. I liked how at first they'd talk to you about vague things and if you talked to them more they're have longer talks with you. But Wolfgang was so depressing. He'd start talking about how lonely he is and how he cant make friends because everyone is scared of him.

Yeah I tried new horizons and I just couldn't get into it like I could on the older ones. I love the wii version personally the most. I feel like new horizons has so much to do. The crafting is a bit annoying. I'm the type of person that loves to play a game but I hate spending so much time in a game and feel like im not getting enough out of it. I love fast paced games that don't take forever. I have to be in a very specific mood to enjoy a long game and those moods come rarely and leave quickly. Plus I don't have any friends that play the type of games I play unfortunately 😕

I feel like no one ever talks about City Folk but it was the game I grew up playing, I got it when I was about 11 and played that game religiously. There was a villager named Camofrog who was my favorite! He gave me old man hitting on young woman vibes but he was just fantastic lol. I loved the shops and the bus drive with Kappa as well. I play New Horizons now and I do enjoy the game but it lacks the grit of City Folk.

As far as my experience with New Horizons goes, I feel like it all depends on the specific villager. I got one who keeps going on about trying to be a pop star, one who is just so posh and elegant but I love her, I got a octopus man who is just angry about every single thing ever, and an alligator who is clearly faded 24/7. Also got Jitters, whatever it is that is clearly wrong with him. Idk I was blessed with a village I really like.

the only video games I could play as a kid were the games my mom would buy for herself lmao. She was really into Harvest Moon and one time bought Harvest Moon for the gamecube on Ebay, but when it came in the mail, the disc was actually for Animal Crossing and she was so upset that she just gave the game to me. i didn’t like the original game villagers because they could be borderline mean, and when i was little i hated it because my peers were already all mean to me. i like the villagers in new horizons because they’re so average. it makes it much better for me to be able to just ask my villager “what’s up” and have them respond very simply and plainly.
