Benjamin the Donkey seems to be the only person who seems to have any idea of what is going on, I know in the animated cartoon he (I guess) starts another revolution. But in the book, he seems to know what is going on, but not willing to speak up.

This is actually in the film, the pig (Snowball) leads the animals (the red army) against the farmers (the white army and the allies) so this is actually portrayed. What she is trying to say is that, unlike Stalin, Trotsky did not gain outside support from the rest of Russia. Stalin summed it up surprisingly well when he summed Trotsky was an individual without an army. He really had no outside support (he was seen as a foreigner too) and his decisions caused anger (red terror anyone?).

I believe animal farm is about all governments not just Soviet Russia. Though the book parallels communism it also paroles france and Italy. France: Napoleon come to power after a French revolution and then everything went wrong. Italy: Mussolini comes to power and says fascism will be great for Italy and everything went wrong.

The novel is actually a critic of the revolution, she's not anti communist, this is what is portrayed by Orwell. Although, let's be honest, Stalin was responsible for approx 20 million deaths so its not like he was really a great guy anyway....as for Trotsky, he was intelligent, but again, was totally ruthless (Red Terror)
