25:30 For context, if you smile at a gorilla while showing your teeth, they don’t see it as a sign of friendliness. They instead see it as a challenge, because to them, you’re literally baring your teeth to them.

The story actually gets even better, because later they realised that bokito didn't see her actions as a challenge, but as a sexual invitation. At one point he was tired of getting blueballed and decided to take his frustation out on her. When I read that news article I almost burst out laughing. Luckily Bokito wasn't harmed because of the ignorance and stupidity of one woman.

I remember that Pittsburgh Zoo case… Unfortunately the “mother” (This person did not deserve a child) settled out of court for an undisclosed amount (She was aiming for $300,000) and the dogs, thankfully, were transported to a different zoo and not shot like what she wanted (They’re an endangered species so it was likely never going to end with them being euthanized). She got money out of it, a slap on the wrist basically, and charged with nothing because the “Child died from the mauling and not the fall”. Still angry to this day about it, because she got off with no punishment for it. There’s a cheetah exhibit there and way more precautions. The child didn’t deserve what happened at all, and the African Painted Dogs just followed instincts; that “parent” deserved to be sentenced and not given a slap on the wrist. It’s an easy story to find since the zoo never had African Painted Dogs since, just look for articles from 2012.

Fortunately Bokito the gorilla was sedated and captured. The gorilla exhibit was given a priority revamping over the giraffe exhibit, whose construction was delayed. Everything's finished now and Bokito lives in the Rotterdam zoo to this day.

The mythical sense of common. The ancient Aztecs spoke of this power and how it used to be everywhere and kept us safe. Gifted to us by the gods because they thought we were too stupid, but one day it vanished without a trace. A curse? Did we anger the gods or perhaps it simply died with time. We may never know.

Just some minor corrections about The Light That Never Goes Out: It's actually Walt's apartment in the park, not his office. When the light was on when he was alive, it let the staff and park goers know that Walt was basically home.

About the African Wild Dog Story. Here in Australia or at least in the Zoo nearest to where I live, there is banks surrounding the railings in order to ensure that such a thing won't happen again, I was told this story when I was around 13 and as the eldest of 5, stories like this scare the shit out of me, as I always seem to think of similar events all the time happening with my younger siblings.
@mrreyes5004
@mrreyes5004 Жыл бұрын
Tbf that was the stupidass mother's fault, the wild dogs can't be blamed for behaving like wild dogs. Casual already said it: "The railings are there for a f***ing reason". Even if the banks weren't there, you'll be perfectly fine if you simply DON'T LEAN OVER THE RAILINGS.
@TwinklesTheChinchilla
@TwinklesTheChinchilla Жыл бұрын
Cougars may behave that way in zoos, but not so much in the wild. Among the many things that kill illegals crossing the boarder are cougars that have lost their fear of man. They'll haunt certain hot spots at night and wait for the elderly, sick, weak, or women and children to fall behind. Then they're picked off, and not always for food. Cats, just like humans, are prone to enjoying the hunt. They will kill multiple targets as well, caching some for later while consuming one. And to think, so many Eastern States lie about them not being present...

That is what happens when you trade all the fast twitch muscle in your arms for better legs that are more efficient at weight support and movement. Although humans are still pretty strong, because adrenaline is a miracle powerup. Humans are still apes after all, so no one should completely underrate them. Especially since we are the best "equipped" down there on average then all other primates.

iirc I herd the lady won the wild dog case. A combination of the railing shouldn't be over the exhibit and that they should idiot proofed so it wouldn't even be possible for someone to do this. Basically you can't leave things to common sense or the belief of who could possibly be dumb enough to do that shit.

So just going to say, anyone who actually knows about wild primates knows that him 'smiling' at her was not a good thing. Especially if it was with teeth because showing teeth is a warning and a challenge so basically she'd been unintentionally taunting him for however long and then just walked up to them?... That's like punk kid talking shit to a pro wrestle before walking into a cage match with him and realizing he didn't take your words as well as a joke. XD That was all on her stupidity of not knowing animal social skills.
@Triple-Four
@Triple-Four 8 ай бұрын
Believe it or not, that specific case was actually the primate being horny and annoyed with getting blue balled by her constantly. He tried sexual advances on her instead of trying to kill her. He took her smile as a sign of sexual needs because he knew she was a female.
