I've seen both Emu's and Cassowary's in the wild in Australia and although the video is right about them being capable of harming you they pretty much always just run away from you rather than attack you. In fact almost every dangerous animal in Australia is pretty much harmless as long as you dont fuck with them, except for magpies

Indeed, while cassowaries are indeed able to kill people and have, there's only two official cases of it. One was a 16 year old Australian boy who with his younger brother tried to kill with clubs a cassowary they found on their property, the boy being killed when the bird defended itself. The other was in 2019 and involved one that was kept as a pet by a man in Florida.

The reason they call the emu war a “war” is because the government actually declared it as a war. But you could see it as similar to the war on terror or war on drugs. Not an actual specific conflict but more of a complex issue that was officially titled as a war.

The only porcine native to the Americas is the peccory (javelina). Wild boars were brought over by rich folks trying to be like European aristocrats for hunting and they inevitably got loose.

There's a decent number of things brought to the US for either that reason or people wanting to bring along something from their homeland ranging from plants to insects and animals some of which being invasive and potentially caused problems for native species. I'm probably wrong but I think starlings aren't native to the US and cause problems for native birds.

To be fair, I think people with a fear of birds aren't weird (Hell, the VTuber Ironmouse is terrified of them). This bird and a number of others are legit terrifying and WILL kill you.

To me birds are just odd. Like, in terms of a morality scale lizards are generally on the "this is good for me I do it" side while mammals are closer to the "help the homie" side. Meanwhile birds just seem to exist on a different morality scale entirely. It's a bit unsettling.

More like CAN kill you. There's only been two official cases of cassowaries killing people in recorded history. Only one of those involved a cassowary in the wild. It was defending itself and it happened nearly a hundred years ago. The other was a cassowary that was kept as a pet.

I've had a scary encounter with a wild boar momma and piglets down here in Florida. I was coming home from a day out to see with my headlights a giant boar and a bunch of babies running around in the front yard of my apartment building. Not near any real woods, a nice apartment complex that was fairly new. Boyfriend at the time and I knew it was a bad idea to get out here so we drove around to try our luck going in the back way. Since it was a corner house it wasn't very far from the boar, but we felt we had better chances. Only thing is the back entrance was right next to a pond with gators in it, but even at night we trusted the gators more. Next morning we went out and they tore up all the st augustine grass.

My fear of birds stems from growing up in Southern California where the seagulls have no f*cks to give and, according to them, everything is theirs to take by any means necessary. Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds was my reality. Not to mention, for some bizarre reason, I have a lot of experiences with birds swooping at me for no reason. Can someone tell me if I’m cursed? I feel cursed.

Nate's story about seeing Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds movie reminded me of when I first saw it...I didn't see it till I was in high school in literature class and we had to write an after the ending continuation....I had been playing Resident Evil 3 at the time and so I went with the zombie crow thing and it got me at least a B iirc. I ain't too scared of birds myself other than the Cassowary...only fear of birds I have is getting crapped on by a particularly nasty crow or raven that wants to play a joke on humans...there's plenty of those around where I live so gotta watch out for that...and angry grey squirrels throwing acorns at my head when I get to close to their trees...

When it comes to african wild dogs and other such predators I think its fairer to say they lack the means to safely kill prey before eating it, so they kill it by eating it. It's arguably faster than waiting for it to bleed out or something like that too.

I was camping with my family meany meany years ago and we came across an emu in the camp site we where saying at. and I walked up to it with some food and I feed it from hand maybe I got a cram one or I got lucky but it seem pretty friendly towards me and I then gave it a pat on the head and my dad took a video of me doing so and then it turned around and went back into the bush with happy look a his face.

The reason African Painted Dogs eat you alive is because they don’t have the power to quickly kill like big cats, they need to eat as fast as possible since other predators will kill them if they catch them, and the dogs don’t have the power to subdue their prey. They eat their prey alive to eat it as fast as possible. Bears have the power to kill you quickly, yet since most prey doesn’t have the power to get away, they see no reason to kill you so they eat their prey alive as well. Painted dogs do it because they have no other options, bears because they have no reason to.
