So glad they decided to let his flight feathers grow out, it makes it so much easier for him to lose weight and from my experience it makes them a lot happier to be able to fly properly. You have to be very careful with making sure the area is safe for flight though!

It's super easy when they're fed too many seeds which are in most treats. A lot of people even think birds only need to eat seeds. It's like giving them popcorn or bacon for breakfast lunch & dinner every day.

Like ‘Fox’ is used for many small canines, ‘Parakeet’ is a name used for many long tailed parrots. Budgies are just the most common. Quaker parrots are also known as Monk Parakeets.

How can you have a pet for a long time and still not know how to take care of him? And it's not like it's before alot of information is available, there is alot of ways for them to look up information.

@@amclover8334 A lot of people do, but they indulge them because they are cute. I know how to take care of my pets, but I could easily spoil them with food, it is hard, but I don't. I had a cockatiel that loved chicken. She turned into a grumpy old lady near the end of her life and wanted all the bad things for her, which she only got as a treat.

How can you have an animal and don't do research about a good alimentation before getting it?
@Miyori999
@Miyori999 3 жыл бұрын
Like with my bird, we got her because her our friend passed away. This was way back in the day, around 2007 before we had internet, so for most of her life we were reading books on birds from the library, but as it turned out the wrong types of birds (the library really only had books on parrot, cockatiel, and finch care, she was a conure so we figured parrots were the closest relatives). There was some common sense to it, like the fact that we could just tell the cage she came to us in was too small, and she didn't like most of the seeds in the mix that came with her, throwing them onto the floor. She didn't start laying eggs until we got her because before then her diet wasn't rich in calcium. (We were actually told she was male). It's rarely ever oblivious neglect, like not knowing if your pet is fat or just fluffy (one of my shorthair cats I say looks fat but really his coat is just fluffy according to our vet).
@EquitacionSinEstres
@EquitacionSinEstres 3 жыл бұрын
@@Miyori999 I understand about the internet issue, but in 2007 vets existed, why don't ask them or an exotic professional about their diet instead of reading a lot of books when it could have been over with a vet visit?
@Miyori999
@Miyori999 3 жыл бұрын
@@EquitacionSinEstres "Exotic professionals" aren't much of a thing in some places, especially those with high poverty rates, unfortunately. We know Dr. K takes pets most vets won't. A lot of places just don't do reptiles, birds, etc. And even in this day finding a specialist in our area is near impossible. We got one place outta maybe 15 in reasonable driving distance that takes chickens, and doesn't do reptiles. Although curiously they'll treat cows and goats. Plus, some folks just don't know what they don't know. Never knew pumpkin was a great way to get fiber into a cat's diet until one cat after maybe 10 cats between my mother's and my lifespan needed it introduced. We didn't know we didn't know.

@LadyDynamitez
@LadyDynamitez 6 жыл бұрын
You need to feed birds greens and fresh foods EVERY DAY, seeds are very fattening. ESPECIALLY if only as the only source of nutrition. They're not supposed to live "years", they're supposed to live multiple ten years depending on the bird. Head over to youtube/bird blogger channel called Flock-talk, they're wonderful.

+calumzdixk xox Birds are in most cases highly social animals. In some places it's even forbidden to hold only one of them, at least 2 or more. That's why he asked if the bird is alone i guess.

***** if you want a bird that will have a great relationship with you or a bird that relies on you then one is fine but if you don't spend a great deal of time with it then you should have more than one. I have one Parakeet and i'd like to think he is very happy with just me
@Yamyatos
@Yamyatos 8 жыл бұрын
+calumzdixk xox Jeah: *You* like to think that. But you cant ask your bird if he/she thinks the same. Birds are social animals. That means, they need company. You are right, if you spend a great deal of time with your bird, then that's fine. However, i doubt that you can even spend the required amount of time with your bird since you will have to work or go to school. In that time, the bird is bored and lonely. Pet owners dont like to be criticized, and if your bird is old already it's to late anyways, but buying young birds alone comes close to pet abuse. They need to be entertained the whole day - and humans just cant do that if they have a normal work day. Older birds are more sleepy, but even then the company to have someone to sleep next to you is what they deserve. To many birds are kept alone, and to many owners are ignorant about this.
@natalier4053
@natalier4053 8 жыл бұрын
***** It's not "pet abuse" (which isn't even the correct term). That's just like saying that keeping your dog alone for an hour is animal abuse. If you spend enough time with it and they are happy and healthy there isn't a problem. (And I do online school so I am home all day which means my bird is out all day) Every bird is different and I suggest you think about that before putting all of them into a centered category of needing to be active every second of the day.
