The giant centipede we saw was on the smaller side, only about 6 inches (15cm) large, but it was still skin crawling to see! What do you think of these big bugs?? I've been bitten a few times by giant centipedes here in Hawaii. It does hurt a lot and can make you feel sick. I've also seen them take down geckos. We have lots of big bugs here in HI but those are definitely the most feared. (by me anyway)
@MrQwerty25242 жыл бұрын
How common are they? Do you need to go out of your way to find them or do they just show up in your house?
@ebal9552 жыл бұрын
@@MrQwerty2524 If you live in the warmer, lower elevation areas of the island you will find them in your home and occasionally in your bed. I used to find them in my car as well. Since moving to higher elevation (3000 ft) I have only seen one in the past 3 years.

To me they look like many legged armor clad mini dragons and I think they look cool, but are definitely intimidating.

I can't believe you people have been around for 3 years and I just saw your videos for the first time today. Thank you for the style of video that you seem to be holding to, short, sweet and to the point without some hidden agenda being promoted 'between the lines'. Again, thank you for some of the best informative critter videos on KZbin. I have a feeling I'll be doing some binge watching.

Both centipedes and millipedes are myriapods, which are arthropods of the superclass Myriapoda, myriapods are classified within the subphylum Myriochelata, which also groups them with the chelicerates (superclass Chelicerata), a group consisting of the arachnids, horseshoe crabs, and sea spiders.

@indyreno29332 ай бұрын
@@kimstachuliana4181, no, "spider" applies only to the arachnid order Araneae, I'm actually saying that both myriapods and chelicerates constitute the subphylum Myriochelata.

These are incredible biological machines*, but as much as they fascinate me they also make my skin crawl. I am thankful that the ones in my part of the world are just house centipedes, not much bigger than 3.5 inches. But Even these will give you a heck of pinch/pinches with their forcipules & inject some venom if you accidently sit on one or put your foot in a boot that has one in there. *It's not hard to imagine these serving as a model for militarized robots in a not-so-distant dystopian future.
@user-ur5fz5ol8n2 жыл бұрын
I think making robot centipedes would be cool but it would be incredibly difficult and redundant to mechanize their means of locomotion. Not impossible but certainly impossible for an incredibly long time.

In Boy Scout summer camp probably 17 or 18 years ago, a guy had to go home early cause he put on a life jacket with one in it. It pinched him all the way up his back several times. Always hated them after that.

I had a similar experience with a life jacket but it was a giant ant of some kind. It was caught in the mesh on the inside of the jacket, bit me right on the chest between my armpit and nipple, hurt like hell. Didn't leave the water park though.
